Gray laminate in the interior: 28 successful combinations with wall color.

One of the important interior decisions is the choice of flooring. In many ways, it determines the picture of the interior decoration of the room. There are quite a lot of options to choose from, but a separate line is allocated for gray laminate in the assortment.

The material of this color is practical and has a long service life. It fits perfectly with many styles. The main advantage of gray floors is the visual invisibility of scratches and stains. Let's figure out what wallpaper is suitable for this floor covering.

Advantages and disadvantages

The main advantage of a gray floor is its variability and plasticity, thanks to which, without exaggeration, it can fit into any interior. At any level of lighting, a gray floor looks noble and has a calming effect. An unobtrusive monochrome shade relieves tension and gives a sense of balance. This makes it a suitable option for the living room and bedroom, but for the work area, a gray floor may be too calm, lulling intellectual activity.

Thanks to the neutrality of the shade, the room can be made more classic, monochrome or “diluted” with bright accents.

Gray goes with most colors. At the same time, if you choose cold gray for the flooring and combine it with the same colors, the atmosphere can turn out lifeless and cold.

The gray floor can be either light (in which case it will be possible to visually expand the room) or darker (in which case it becomes an accent). In rooms with ashen floors, a feeling of air movement is created, it is fresh and cool. It turns out that one of the advantages of such a floor is the ability to externally adjust the size and configuration of rooms.

Gray flooring is an atypical shade for most types of flooring. Some manufacturers produce such materials as a separate collection, so their cost may be slightly higher compared to analogues of familiar colors.

Laminate color oak

The most popular request on the Internet is oak colored laminate. I must immediately clarify one nuance: Oak is a type of wood. Entering such a phrase into the search bar of Yandex or Google, a huge number of colors may appear that at first glance have nothing to do with oak (in English “Oak”).

Most often, the natural color of this wood is meant – warm (greenish-brown). But laminate is an artificial surface and the print can be printed in any shade. Here is just a small list of some oak colors:

The list can be continued endlessly, stupidly listing names from the Internet. Marketers in corporations come up with individual names for each model. Accordingly, the same color may be called differently by different manufacturers .

Laminate oak can be found in hundreds of shades

Oak can also differ in the depth of embossing, the number of stripes on the board, the presence of knots, and the gloss of the surface. Let's just say that in terms of the quantity of laminate flooring that can be laid, oak is in first place and is especially in demand:

Single-strip board with a bevel and a small number of scattered knots.

Laminate oak tinted single-strip with chamfer

I believe that the love for oak is determined by the growth of the tree in the middle zone, the practicality of the wood, and its recognition in most countries of the world. Therefore, marketers have embodied people’s commitment to traditional materials in the familiar texture of wood on a new material. Gradually adding various shades of print, which in real life can be achieved on natural wood using complex technological processes: aging, dyeing, brushing (combing out soft fibers in the wood structure).

But even after deciding on a color, the shade is often a stumbling block. Since the tonality can be warm, cold and combined interspersed. Laminate in brown, with a greenish tint, cream and so on.

Oak laminate in the interior

I worked at a door and flooring store for a while. Then there were a lot of door blocks and flooring in oak color. Therefore, the ensemble of taste was built on a classic selection of interiors. For me personally, the concept of oak color will forever remain a classic color: natural or stained. That is, the color register ranges from olive-golden to brown.

I was pleased with the Pskov doors “PleskovDoor” with a voluminous classic panel. They were made in natural oak and tinted walnut colors.

Also at the Rybinsk doors, the Svoboda factory, the above colors were present. In addition, there was a mahogany color that was in high demand.

And, of course, the Volkhovets factory had oak color in the line.

Interestingly, there were no suitable photographs in the portfolio. But on the Internet there are completely different models.

When selling parquet, laminate, and boards, we tried to combine the colors of materials as much as possible with the doors - this is in the classic version.

Although you need to understand that fashion does not stand still and designers come up with new, sometimes bizarre combinations. And new technologies, materials and imagination, sometimes in abundance, of creative people help in this. Can you imagine, if the possible number of coating colors is combined with wallpaper of different colors, what variations will there be for the mind and the pleasure of the eyes?

Laminate oak color pros and cons

Laminate flooring in natural or tinted oak colors is quite practical in terms of low visibility of defects during assembly and the presence of small scratches. It is easy to match the warm shade of oak with wallpaper, furniture, and doors.

There are no disadvantages in terms of practicality.

Goes well with doors and furniture with oak texture. Wallpaper also selects a warm shade of light beige, peach, for example.

The baseboard is matched in 70% of cases to the laminate, 20% to the doors, and in 10 out of 100 options it is white. Of course, the statistics are given by eye and in relation to the orders I have completed in apartments.

The range of choices in terms of price and wear resistance class is huge. Laminate can be found from 150 rubles/m2 for 31 wear resistance classes in Leroy Merlin stores. Of course, if we consider a long-term option for operation, we need to look at class 33 or 32.

Unique properties of gray

A couple of centuries ago, this basic shade was associated with the color of aristocrats. And for good reason: such tones go with everything, even not very bright accents stand out against a nondescript background. To complement gray, you can use rich, complex shades of red, blue or green. At the same time, no one can say about a person with such an interior that he is tasteless.

The color gray has many shades and each of them has its own character, its own characteristics of use in the interior

Gloomy adds stability to the interior. It also calms, which is important for working people who are tired of the hustle and bustle and constant movement. This psychological impact is enhanced if you combine it with others: white, beige or black.

The perfect combination. How to choose wallpaper for laminate flooring?

Many designers and decorators are sure that there are no color combinations for laminate and wallpaper that cannot look harmonious.

But due to the variety of textures, patterns, shades and tones of this finish, consumers are faced with the problem of making the right choice.

Of course, you can do everything at your own discretion without taking into account existing rules. Why miss the chance to create a beautiful and cozy interior? Let's reveal the secrets of color selection that will help you identify the optimal combination of laminate and wallpaper when purchasing.

Variety of shades

Gray color is one of the most mysterious and multifaceted. It can vary from ash-pearl, almost bleached, to coal black. If we talk about floor color, the most common options are gray:

It is generally accepted that in the interior, a gray floor color in combination with gray walls looks monotonous and dreary. Modern design ideas and developments have successfully proven the opposite. The market is full of a variety of finishes, with stores offering a wide range of gray shades.

You should carefully approach the issue of choosing the color of the flooring, because the perception of the entire room depends on it. Gray tiles and laminate are very popular, as they are a universal coating that will suit almost any project.

A gray floor serves as an ideal base for the rest of the colors in the room; it will highlight and emphasize them against its background, but does not lose its individuality.

A floor in a pleasant ash shade with a glossy or matte effect will always look harmonious in any apartment.

Repair sequence

What does laminate or wallpaper do first? The relevance of this issue affects 80% of families who make repairs with their own hands. Even experts cannot answer unequivocally, although the majority is of the opinion that the wallpaper is glued first.

Why? Let's look at the nuances of the process:

  • Wallpapering is accompanied by the appearance of high humidity . Drying takes place with the windows closed. As a result, the floors will absorb the resulting moisture during the day. This may have a negative effect on the coating.

First you need to finish the walls, and then you can install the flooring

  • On an already installed laminate you will have to use glue . When smearing walls or strips of wallpaper, there is a high risk of staining the coating.
  • When cutting a roll, you can drop a knife, scissors, or tape measure . Scratches or other defects will occur from moving the auxiliary ladder.
  • There is no need to make even cuts at the bottom - the material is glued to the floor, and the plinth will cover all the unevenness.

It is known that flooring is more durable than wallpaper; it is changed several times when the laminate is laid. Nothing bad happens. In most cases, everyone chooses a method that is convenient for themselves.

How does gray laminate affect the interior?

The effect of a gray floor on the interior of a room depends on its shade. Dark gray tones help to visually reduce the space of the room; light gray tones produce the opposite effect.

The airy, calming atmosphere is evident even in the photos. The room seems cooler and fresher. The owner feels the so-called balance of mental balance, strengthening of self-control.

Advice! The harmony of the gray floor is noted in combination with decorative elements of lavender, wine, green and pastel pink. They also add black accents, but this is not suitable for all styles.

How to combine colors correctly?

It is best to base the choice of materials for finishing a room on their properties to influence the perception of space. White and light colors for walls and ceilings make the space feel freer and larger. Dark colors significantly narrow it, and the vertical stripe even more, further increasing the height of the ceilings.

To select colors and shades of finishing materials, you need to evaluate the parameters of the room and determine the goals that need to be achieved through finishing. Having two such lists, the choice comes down to several positions from one shade range. Laminate can be contrasting, monochromatic, or differ by just a few tones. Smart distribution of accents will create the right atmosphere.

To avoid creating a “box” effect in the room, the colors of the walls and flooring should differ by a couple of tones.

We talked about how to choose the right color scheme for different rooms here, and from this article you will learn how to combine wallpaper with different coatings.

With doors

In design, there is an unspoken rule for any interior - “the game of three” . These are just three basic shades or colors that determine the flooring, wall decoration and door panels. Floor slabs and doors can have a wood imitation texture or be solid coverings in a wide range of colors. If the design does not have to be classic, then you can play with these shades, even choose flashy tones.

Choosing a wood palette for doors or laminate requires a similar approach. This will keep the different materials from feeling too different, and will keep the overall style consistent. Plain products 2-3 shades lighter or darker are suitable for laminate with imitation of natural materials. Then there will be no significant difference, which will give harmony and naturalness to the finish.

For interior harmony, it is necessary to take into account the color matching of the shade of the flooring and doors. Therefore, they choose these elements at the same time or order laminate in the color format that best suits the already installed interior paintings. This rule also applies to metal interior doors.

Basic approaches to combining laminate and door panels:

  1. Contrast of tones . The main condition for an aesthetic room is the ratio of warm to warm, and cold to cold. An example of such combinations: light interior doors and dark laminate, walnut shade with a wooden texture of the panels coated in light colors.
  2. Matching shades and textures . It is necessary to make sure that there is furniture and interior elements in contrasting colors. It is rational to use this approach when decorating small rooms in light colors.
  3. Color combination. There are several successful combinations that will not irritate with contrast, but will make the doorways stand out from the general environment.
If the base color is brown, then you need to select the laminate 1-2 tones darker than the doorways. You need to adhere to the condition - the base is 2-3 shades darker than the furniture facades.
  4. Interior canvases in beige colors go well with light-colored flooring, for example, golden white or milky beige. If beige is the basis of the laminate, then it is not recommended to install doors in red shades.
  5. Interior openings filled with canvases in a range of walnut tones look harmonious against the background of a light floor. In combination with light oak or beech, such doors create a contrasting, gentle impression of the interior.

In order for the choice of wallpaper to be successful, it is necessary to take into account the main rule: The tones must be in the same thermal category, and not merge in color . It is desirable that the texture and pattern do not discord with the texture of the floor covering, platbands, or the interior paintings themselves.

Therefore, the wallpaper should differ by only 1-4 tones from the chosen color format or contrast the floor and doors against its background. At the same time, for small rooms the dark spectrum is undesirable, as it will visually reduce the size of an already cramped room or hallway.

With light flooring

Several basic colors from a light palette for flooring design:

  1. White color, its shades: milky, golden, grayish, yellowish, creamy, white pear, with a glossy or matte finish, with imitation of aged material.
  2. Yellow laminate: wood species - oak, maple, pine, ash, birch. Goes well with any interior.
  3. Light gray flooring with imitation wood fibers or natural minerals, such as marble, rock, urban concrete, ceramic or paving slabs, bleached oak.

Light tones of the floor reflect more light and visually expand.
Wallpaper of any color looks good against the background of light floors. When choosing a laminate in white shades, you need to cover the walls with wallpaper of the same tone or pure white with different textures of the decorative layer. These solutions are used in high-tech and minimalist styles. To feel comfortable in the interior, you need bright decorative elements or furniture. Otherwise, the impression of excessive sterility, as in hospital wards, may appear.

Black and white wallpapers look good with yellow laminate : they give the entire room restraint and rigor. The combination of a yellow floor with red wallpaper of the entire range of this color will make the room original, cheerful, and bright. Severity and nobility will be brought by darker shades of brown in the roll material, and yellow wallpaper with a high brightness of the tonal spectrum will bring radiance and additional light.

With gray flooring

The peculiarity of gray laminate is that it can be combined with different colors of doors and wall coverings. There is no need to go to extremes, and it is better to choose colors from the same range, observing the warmth of the color.

The following wallpapers are suitable for gray wood floors:

  • Beige with large contrasting patterns, small patterns or with the texture of natural minerals for rooms in classic, modern styles.
  • Reds from all warm colors look fashionable and modern. The main thing is to maintain a balance of color and lighting so that the room is not too dark due to burgundy walls and laminate with a dark granite texture.
  • Orange canvases with dark or light floor coverings in gray tones will create a bright combination.
  • Green walls require a very careful approach in choosing, since the combination of gray laminate and emerald tones requires design skills. If you are not sure of success, you need to take the advice of specialists or abandon this combination.
  • Yellow wallpaper matches a gray floor if it consists of bright pictures or large elements of this color. The interior will be original, but discreet.

Floor color in a room with gray walls - practical interior solutions

Let’s identify the advantages and note the nuances of gray in the room:

 a dark gray floor in the interior usually visually reduces the area of the room, making it narrower, while a light gray floor, on the contrary, can increase it;  calm shades of gray dilute the interior, loaded with furniture, with their lightness and laconicism;  such a floor promotes a surge of strength, calmness, and immerses you in a cozy atmosphere;  rather unusual color of the floor covering – gray or ash laminate. This material will allow you to find an interesting interior solution and change the perception of the situation in the room. Also suitable for the ultra-fashionable design of a modern apartment;  Gray finish is ideal for a living room or bedroom. In the kitchen, this color creates a cold atmosphere, although this can be corrected with bright colors or warm shades in the details of the room.

What to combine with?

Only the right combination of gray laminate in the interior with other shades makes the atmosphere luxurious. It is an intermediate monochrome color between white and black. Therefore, gray harmonizes perfectly with them. It is great for monochrome interiors and reduces contrast. Not only white and gray wallpapers are suitable for gray laminate. Allowed use:

Thanks to purple, yellow, and blue, you can add bright accents to add variety to the gray background of the floor or wallpaper. In a room with gray laminate flooring, you can install furniture of the same color, but it can be white or black.

Gray floor in the interior: what will the walls and doors be like?

The main disadvantage of a gray coating is its visual coldness. If warm shades are not planned in the design project, the room will turn into an unpleasant, lifeless area.

In any case, you should not allow monotony and it is important that the floor and doors have a suitable texture. Gray tiles can also be used in the bathroom. Which walls can go with a gray floor? For gray flooring, walls with dark wallpaper, without bright colors, are suitable. A good solution would be to introduce furniture in an increasingly popular metallic color into the interior. The main thing is not to overdo it with gray color and not turn the room into a chrome box.

Laminate color range

The color scheme of the laminate determines whether the interior will be harmonious. Designers advise not to combine more than three primary colors. If the walls are neutral, the floor can be rich, and textiles and furniture will help set accents. And vice versa: if the wallpaper has a large ornament, you need a muted floor covering.

General rule: for a room decorated in cold colors, the same “cold” laminate will be suitable. And vice versa - warm shades require warm colors to support them. The figure shows how to work with color temperature.

Floor materials. Light and dark gray floor in the interior

The types of coating offered in stores are striking in their diversity. If desired, you can use economical and well-known materials: parquet flooring, boards, laminate, tiles.

Laminate - plates treated with resins with a cotton layer. The surface is laminated with a special varnish, which makes it more durable. Laminate flooring is easy to install and gives a pleasant aesthetic appearance to the room. But it also has disadvantages. This is minimal environmental friendliness, unsuitability for water, high price.

Linoleum is a coating made of polymer materials. Like laminate, it has low environmental friendliness and wear resistance. It features a rich assortment of patterns, is easy to clean, and is available in different textures and colors.

The most environmentally friendly and durable coating is floorboards and parquet. Disadvantages: high price and complex installation process, which can only be carried out by a specialist.

Only at first glance light and dark gray seem the same. Despite the similarity, they will look different in the room. Dark shades will visually make the room smaller, while light gray will add air and comfort. It is important to remember that dark floors immediately attract attention and therefore require constant care.

What characteristics should you pay attention to when purchasing?

When a buyer chooses a laminate, he looks at the price, appearance, and sometimes the wear resistance class. The latter characteristic ceased to be important when production technologies were modernized and the market was replenished with Chinese brands. For example, coverage of class 34 from China may be inferior to class 31 from Germany. It is better to focus on the guarantee: if the manufacturer is confident in the quality, he will indicate a long warranty period.

All technical specifications are indicated on the packaging. Let's look at what markings are important if you plan to lay laminate flooring in a residential area:

Sometimes icons are placed on the packaging, which also provide information about the product. This is convenient: the characteristics are clear, and it is easier to understand whether the coating is suitable.

We imitate a tree

When choosing a gray floor for your design, the first thing you should pay attention to is the laminate. This material is quite cheap and durable, and by ordering this coating individually you can get any desired shade of the desired color. Also, when choosing a laminate, the customer can decide not only on the color, but also on the texture, which can imitate any natural material. In addition, this coating spreads easily, which will greatly facilitate the work of builders and save time for the customer and designer. Despite its artificial origin, laminate is completely harmless to the human body if it is made in accordance with all standards.

Problems with laminate flooring are rare, but they can still be inconvenient. The main issue that needs to be resolved before laying is waterproofing the future floor. Laminate, unfortunately, suffers from insufficient moisture resistance, and its seams are not sealed, which allows water and dirt to accumulate in them, destroying the coating.

Gray floors in the interior: a combination of textures

Gray color will indicate the advantages and hide the disadvantages of the interior. The ash shade perfectly softens the contrast of colors and helps to make the palette restrained when red and light walls are combined. Items with different dosages of gray pigment look very organic. Sunny and intense colors will help complement such a monotonous decoration.

Gray floors in the interior suggest an excellent combination with lilac, wine, green or pale red walls. The ideal complement to a gray floor is dark gold - this can be used to decorate surfaces or furniture.

Style and color

Each style has its own palette, from which you should not deviate. By introducing, for example, neon colors into a classic interior, you will get kitsch on the verge of bad taste.

Physiologically, a person evaluates an environment as safe and stable when the darkest shade is underfoot, the midtones are at eye level, and sky-white shades extend above the head.

At the same time, modern interiors indicate that designers love to play pranks and turn everything upside down. Therefore, we can find chocolate and even black stretch ceilings over beige and white floors.

So, here is a style sheet and color schemes.

Rules for choosing colors for floors, walls, furniture and ceilings

So, we figured out which color goes with which. Next, we will dwell on the objects that are present in each room, and we will understand the principles of using certain shades.

There are several unspoken rules that should be considered when choosing a color scheme for the floor.

  1. Increases space.
  2. It is a reflective fabric.
  3. Can be used with a light shade of walls.
  4. Suitable for bedroom, bathroom, toilet, living room
  1. Combines with light walls, ceilings, and dark ones. But it should be at least 1 tone darker.
  2. Suitable for any room.
  3. Bright accents look good against its background, provided there is good lighting.
  4. Doesn't go well with a dark door.

Walls

The walls can be made in absolutely any color. Depending on the purpose of the room used, it can be active, passive or neutral.

Active colors are an accent. They are combined either with the opposite bright color, or with a less bright, calm color.

A popular solution is walls in pastel colors. They play the role of background to the main view of the room. In this case, you can use any floor, furniture, ceiling. Since this is a universal option.

Ceiling

The ceiling is most often chosen in white or light shades. Since it is a universal color and can be combined with any furniture, ceiling, floor. Can be matte or glossy. If you want to add contrasts, it is better to add a rich color to the walls or interior items. Can be used in any room.

If the choice fell on a dark ceiling, then it is worth considering several nuances:

  • A black ceiling can only be done in a large space with high ceilings. Minimum height 3 meters.
  • Combines only with white and light furniture and milky colors of walls, floors, furniture
  • Suitable for minimalist style
  • Creates an expensive effect in a room with panoramic windows

Laminate colors – which one is better to choose for your apartment?!

The problem of what color of laminate to choose for your apartment is extremely difficult. I say this because not all of my customers follow the advice on purchasing recommended brands, since they don’t have the required colors, but go buy what is most suitable in color. And this choice is not always successful in terms of practicality.

Laminate flooring was originally created with an imitation of wood, copying a parquet board. With the development of the idea and the passage of time, new decors were invented:

Modern technologies have made it possible to reproduce deep embossed designs that give new shades. Considering that there are more than fifty laminate manufacturers on the market, with branches of sub-brands. Each company has dozens of collections containing at least 10-20 color solutions. Using simple arithmetic you can calculate 50*10*10=5000 color units. Of course, the numbers are conditional and are given for scale. But I think I’m not much mistaken if we take the entire laminated coating market.

When viewing photographs online, monitor settings may not accurately depict the color of the material. The samples on display are under different lighting conditions. As you understand, in large construction markets the light does not come from the spotlights, and daylight greatly distorts the colors. From my experience communicating with customers, I will say that wallpaper that reflects home lighting can change the shades of the floor. All these studies highlight the difficulty of choosing laminated coatings based on color.

Let's get down to business. After describing the advantages and disadvantages of coatings of various colors, I will describe in the title which laminate color is best to choose for practical reasons.

What combinations are appropriate with white wood floors?

Light parquet does not impose a taboo on colored surfaces. Rather, on the contrary, you should try to include colorful elements and darkened areas in the interior to create a contrasting effect.

In this case, the rule applies to the walls - their surface should be several tones darker or lighter than the parquet. You can emphasize the combination using contrasting colors of baguettes and baseboards.

The harmonious interior of a living room with light parquet flooring is designed using exclusively light colors for the walls, thus giving the room additional lightness and airiness. In other rooms, for example, in the bedroom, you can combine dark walls with light parquet.
