Baguette decor is a fashionable and stylish accessory that will decorate almost any room. Baguettes for ceilings or walls as decoration no longer surprise anyone, but are an almost obligatory attribute of every home. This design has a huge number of embodiments. Which makes it even more relevant and able to fit into any type of interior.

Baguettes are one of the best design solutions. All varieties of this design can be divided into 3 main groups:

  1. Plastic. They are almost universal, as they can be quite easily integrated into a room with any design style.
  2. Aluminum and profile structures. The most reliable type of structure that can cope with heavy loads.
  3. Wooden baguette. Natural materials are an ideal design element. They are supposed to be used in natural style homes.

The most durable to use are plastic baguettes. Metal ones can handle the heaviest load. And the most comfortable to use are wooden ones.

Interior molding is intended for finishing and decorating walls, ceilings, cornices, mirrors, the main thing is not to overdo it and not make the room look richly tasteless.

Features of choice

Framed wallpaper will look good in the interior if you choose it wisely.

The coating must meet certain requirements:

  • It differed from the general background, and not necessarily in its catchiness or bright colors. The frame edging itself already attracts the eye to this decoration element, highlighting it. However, it should not merge with the common trellises;
  • The dimension of the patterned part should be the same as the dimensions of the panel. For a small panel, it is worth using a canvas that depicts a small pattern, because a picture with several fragments does not always look good;
  • The design idea should fit harmoniously into the interior, both in terms of color scheme and stylistic direction. This requirement is general for any form of decor. For example, in some cases modern three-dimensional photo wallpapers look extremely successful. In this case, the decor will resemble a large photograph or painting. The original applique will also become a worthy decoration of the room.

Where can it be used?

  1. For framing windows and doors.
    Today, white doors are very popular. For such wood products, the doorway can be glued with molding, and therefore it is not at all necessary to contact a workshop specializing in wood, but to do it yourself. If, in addition, the apartment has a white baseboard, then this option will be simply ideal.

    If you have small window openings, then to make them appear larger, you can glue moldings around the perimeter of the window, and their color should match the window frame. The moment the curtains close, the illusion will be created that the window is much wider and higher. True, it’s a pity, but this will not give more access to the sun’s rays into the room, although the aesthetic appearance will noticeably improve.

  3. Creating several lines on the ceiling using a baguette.
    This method is very effective with fairly high ceilings. You can go down a couple of centimeters from the glued baguette and glue a strip of molding along the entire length of the room. It should be thin and preferably light shades. This will make the apartment more attractive and add laconic restraint, and the overall appearance of the room will be unobtrusive and elegant.
  4. Selecting panels on the walls.
    If you like to combine several wall coverings in one room, you should think about using moldings and using them to create an imitation of panels.

Technological process

The installation itself is usually carried out in several stages.

The first step is to select the necessary materials:

  • Wooden, plaster, polyurethane or polystyrene foam baguette, depending on the style of the interior. Frames made of polyurethane and wood are more expensive.
  • Frame glue. Frames made of wood and polyurethane are attached using liquid nails, and plaster frames, like polystyrene foam, are attached using glue or ordinary putty;
  • For wallpaper, glue is selected for a standard trellis;
  • You will also need water-dispersion paint and primer (penetrating).

The tool used is standard. In the case of a weighted baguette, dowels or screws and a drill are additionally used.

At the second stage, the surface is prepared. The panel is mounted before the main trellis, selected in advance, is glued.

During surface preparation:

  • Markings are made together where the panel is planned to be placed. This area is clearly visible from everywhere. Markings are applied using a level to maintain ninety-degree angles and parallelism of the lines;
  • The marked part of the surface is treated with a primer, after which two layers of paint are applied;
  • Now all that remains is to glue the main panel, gradually smoothing it from the central part to the edges, which are then carefully trimmed using a well-sharpened knife.

Having thought through the composition well, you can create a unique decorative element that will pleasantly diversify the interior. Here there is an excellent opportunity to realize artistic fantasies and the most daring ideas that will make the room more stylish, adding comfort and individuality.

Molding as a method of separation

Currently, moldings that allow you to visually separate spatial zones are especially popular. For a child's room, for example, the ideal option is one in which the place for rest and sleep is separated from the play space.

This solution is novel along with unusualness and attractiveness for many owners. Thanks to the presence of such a product, the wall acquires a certain relief, and this is the goal when creating creativity in the interior.

In addition, working with such materials is not at all difficult, and their price is quite reasonable.

  • Such a decoration element as molding has been found in almost every home over the last decade.
  • This demand is quite justified, since it allows you to add separation ability in addition to the decoration function.
  • Molding is used to be able to use the combinatorics of various materials along with types and colors in finishing the surface of the walls.

Effects

When using decorative self-adhesive moldings, you need to decide in what position you want to attach them. Most often they are installed in a vertical or horizontal position. Accordingly, the first option provides the effect of increasing space upward, and the second option promotes expansion.

In addition, with their help you can divide a large room into zones , create unusual shapes in the form of squares, circles or other shapes that you come up with yourself.

Types of moldings

The following elements differ according to material:

  • Plaster options are installed directly on the wall or ceiling surface. They may also be in the intermediate zone. Alabaster will help to attach them. It has excellent adhesion and performance;
  • Polyurethane decor is attached to glue with an acrylic base. After the installation is completed, it is painted in the shade that was originally intended;
  • Slats made of wooden material, along with corners and narrow panels, are secured either with glue or nails. Regardless of the overall style, they always fit harmoniously into any space;
  • The use of metal moldings is associated with the need to trim part of the threshold or steps. They are installed with fasteners that hold the corner together with the facing part;
  • The plastic version can be either corner or wall-mounted. There are often baseboard solutions that can be installed without any problems.

Currently, it is possible to purchase self-adhesive moldings. They can be made from a wide variety of materials. There are quite well-known options with curb tape, the material for which is a rubber sheet. There are many interesting groove elements, which will not be difficult to install.

Any molding always looks original and provides the opportunity for self-expression of the owner’s taste preferences and desires.

What is it made from and what kind of baguette is it?

The most commonly used materials for making baguettes today are wood, metal, plastic, and polyurethane. Of all, wood is, of course, considered the most noble. But it should be said that there are different options for using baguettes, which explains the variety of materials used. To create a noble frame for expensive paintings, wood is most often used, the raw materials being such species as Indonesian ramin and African ajos. Due to their density and uniform texture, frames made from them last a very long time and add even more value to the work of art. Also for this purpose, the purest selection of pine, oak, and walnut is used.

Metallic baguette is most often made of aluminum, and it can be either painted or in a natural color. It is best used for modern interiors with an emphasis on abstractionism and minimalism, for the purpose of decorating living rooms, offices and bathrooms. It is worth saying that this option is the most durable of all.

Cheaper options are made of plastic; for comparison, it costs 30-40% less than wood, but its main advantage is its unlimited variety, sizes, colors and shapes. Another huge plus is that plastic is not afraid of moisture, and therefore can be used in bathrooms. Often plastic options imitate gold-plated and silver-plated surfaces.

The polyurethane type also falls into the inexpensive category; this is a good opportunity to save money without losing appearance. It is decorated in a wide variety of ways, often its color has a shade of darkened bronze, silver, classic golden shades, and simply colored and white are also characteristic of it. This type of baguettes is most often used not for decorating paintings, but for other interior details.

Also, baguettes come in different shapes, or rather, the planks from which it is made can have a different profile, and secondly, a different front design. The profile can be single or double - this is often used to decorate museum historical paintings. The decorative part of the baguette can be flat, convex or, on the contrary, depressed. Popular today are baguettes for classic interiors with imitation carvings - beautiful ornaments.
