Art Deco style hallway wall design

The main functions of the hallway in modern apartments, in addition to utilitarian ones, are to impress guests and emphasize the status of the owner of the apartment. A good interior designer and competent implementation of the project will help you cope with this task.

Designer wall panels in the hallway

The combination of several types of mirror and matte wall panels with golden edging, flat and relief patterns create a magnificent play of textures and ornaments in the luxurious interior of the hallway. When designing such an interior space of an apartment, you can successfully combine ready-made wall panels from Italian factories with original products made in Moscow workshops according to the designer’s individual project.

Art Deco decorative motifs include geometric patterns, ancient Egyptian and Aztec patterns, stylized leaves, flower buds and exotic bird feathers. Today, the brilliant Hollywood style, with a centuries-old history and an extensive library of artistic techniques for decorating walls, is most popular in luxury interior decoration.

Art Deco style hallway design

A mirror in the hallway is really necessary. This is where we want to look at ourselves before going out and evaluate our appearance. But large built-in mirror panels, decorated with facets, are something that goes beyond standard furniture, expanding the space and offering the hallway functionality and beauty of a higher order.

Large mirror panel with bevel in the hallway

In the wall decoration of this exclusive hallway interior from our portfolio, the Art Deco style is defined with laconic touches. The effect of finishing the walls with panels is created using straight moldings for painting and a wide baseboard around the perimeter of the floor and ceiling. The art objects include an interior painting with a girl drowning in the aroma of white peonies, and a designer chandelier in the shape of gold and crystal needles.

Radial corridor with Gainsborough-colored walls and white moldings

The current geometry of Art Deco interiors, as a rule, is set by luxurious designer furniture and doors, inspiring the author of the project for decoration and decor, which can serve as a worthy rhyme and frame for them. In this interior, ready-made models of dark wood doors with glass and decorative layout are repeated by the designer in the mirrored facades of the built-in wardrobe and played out in the pattern of white wall moldings against the background of radial walls painted with matte Gainsborough paint.

Decorating a wall in the hallway with a photo poster

In the interior of a modern hall, Provencal kitchen or glamorous bedroom you can often see such a decorative object as a panel. Panels can be very different - a mosaic composition, a slab of natural onyx with lighting, or a mirror coated with an original design. Panels can also be ceramic, fabric, wood, as well as gypsum or polymer. Photo panels are often used in modern interior design. This could be an abstraction that sets the tone and mood for the entire interior, a personal photo of the hostess, a family photograph of all family members, an interesting ornament or a landscape painting.

Interior photo printing - a fashionable alternative to photo wallpaper

An enfilade moving into the future, repeated in the mirrors - interior photo print on the walls and doors

In our time, photo wallpaper has been replaced by the technique of interior photo printing, when any image, be it a landscape, a drawing or a portrait, can be applied to glass, a mirror, the surface of a door or wall panel with special paints that instantly polymerize under the influence of ultraviolet rays. The applied paint layer is firmly fixed, does not wear off over time and does not lose saturation and brightness. The technology is used for seamless finishing of walls, ceilings or door panels. This coating is practical and durable, and in the hands of talented professionals it allows you to achieve amazing effects of presence inside the image with imitation of perspective. Particularly fascinating are the mirror-like spaces created when using reflective canvases covering the entire wall in combination with a photo print, as well as invisible seamless doors in the interior.

Stage one. Preparing the walls

It doesn’t matter what coating you choose - panels, wallpaper, paint or tiles, it must still be applied to a flat surface without flaws.

To do this, you need to dismantle the old covering and inspect the wall. Are there any chips, cracks or dents? How significant are they? What is the curvature of the walls (up to 5 mm is acceptable).

If the walls are smooth and there are no defects, proceed to the next step. If there are shortcomings, they need to be corrected first. For this we use:

  1. Plaster mixture with cement-sand, clay and gypsum composition. If there is a strong curvature, clay is used; other types are suitable for eliminating small flaws.
  2. The primer mixture smoothes out small cracks and strengthens the surface, improving its adhesive properties. There are different types of deep impregnation primers, compositions with quartz sand and special antiseptic mixtures. Putty is applied over them to level the surface.
  3. Drywall with the following characteristics will also help prepare the surface for finishing:
  • masking any defects;
  • warming effect;
  • easy installation.

In addition, drywall can protect the room from noise, provide waterproofing and hide any communications. The only negative is that it increases the thickness of the walls (due to the frame).

In this case, you will not need special tools, but installation will require at least minimal preparation, especially if a metal frame is pre-installed onto which the sheets are fixed. You can attach it directly with glue, but you also need to be able to do this. An experienced craftsman carries out such work in a few hours, and with a complex repair involving several workers, all walls can be leveled in one day.

Modern wall design in the kitchen

Black marble backsplash with white veins for kitchen walls

The decoration of the walls of a modern kitchen, as a rule, comes down to the design of the apron, since the rest of the surface is covered with the facades of the kitchen unit. Kitchens are occupying an increasingly modest place in the spaces of apartments of residents of megacities, stretching into laconic lines along one of the walls of the living room, and space-saving furniture is built in from floor to ceiling.

“Doubling the area” of the dining area with a mirror wall

Mirror wall in the interior of the dining room

If you prefer an interior design with a mirror finish in an expanded format, look at the visualization of the kitchen-dining room interior in the illustration above. Here the mirror wall enhances the illumination of the room and visually increases its area by almost 2 times. The remaining wall area, as the geometry of functionalism dictates to us, is used from floor to ceiling and represents the solid facades of the built-in kitchen unit. This technique allows you to completely hide the furniture cabinets and achieve the effect of being recessed into the wall.

Laminate walls

Recently, laminate has been used not only for finishing flooring, but also experimented with on ceilings and walls. The advantage of this coating is its ability to hide external surface defects.

You can use laminate to decorate any room. Thanks to it, it is possible to add texture, a feeling of warmth and create an elegant environment. Construction stores offer a large selection of textures and color palettes.

Wall decoration in the bedroom

In bedroom interiors, soft wall panels with textile and leather upholstery are used primarily to create a feeling of comfort and coziness. Also popular are inserts of designer wallpaper with a floral or thematic pattern, tapestry panels, relief gypsum panels and black glass in the decoration of the walls of the TV area.

Soft wall panels

Textile wall panels for bedside wall decoration

Soft wall panels for the bedroom are one of the striking characteristic features of designer interiors. They are designed by the author of the project and manufactured to order in furniture production. These functional interior design elements enhance the sound and heat insulation of bedrooms and do not require preliminary preparation of walls for installation, perfectly leveling any surface. Upholstery made of eco-friendly furniture velvet, satin or leather with dust- and dirt-repellent impregnation ensures ease of cleaning and long service life of soft wall decor.

Original methods of transformation

  1. If the interior of the dining room is made in light or snow-white shades, then it becomes necessary to dilute the abundance of white background. In this case, the ornament of the dishes located across the entire main wall will look original and bright. It would be good if it was a classic blue color.
  2. Fruits will look juicy and bright on the kitchen wall. But not the usual still life, but, for example, one apple or banana and so on. The main condition is that the fruit must be depicted believably, so tasty and appetizing that you want to bite off a piece of it.
  3. For art lovers, a great idea would be to place a collage of many small paintings. A collage should be made from paintings of the same style. It can be retro, Provence or abstraction.
  4. Having a carpet on the wall is a thing of the past. However, if you have it, you can add a touch of nostalgia to the interior of the room, but you need to do it beautifully. For example, you can place a small carpet you like with an interesting, or perhaps common, pattern in Soviet times, behind glass in a frame.

Any free space can serve as a canvas for creativity. The main thing is to use your imagination, and then everything will definitely work out!

Modern Bathroom Wall Design Ideas

Mosaic panel with mother-of-pearl inserts for bathroom wall decoration

In bathrooms, finishing is most often done with ceramic tiles and mosaics, marble, porcelain stoneware, natural stone or ceramic parquet. This applies to the design of both floors and walls, as well as various niches. These materials are ideal for finishing wet areas in an apartment or house - in the kitchen, bathroom, relaxation room in front of the sauna and pool. In modern bathroom interiors, the most common is white or black marble with natural veining, but there are other variations, for example, pink, brown, red and many others.

By combining different textures of wall decoration in the bathroom in the photo above, our designers achieved an amazing result! The seemingly disparate designs of floral mosaics and large-format marbled porcelain tiles are perfectly combined thanks to a unifying monochrome palette with a golden-brown accent in the panel, repeated in the designer chandelier and the designer design of the floor tiles.

Do-it-yourself major wall repairs: when necessary

In most cases, we start working on walls only after major renovations. Cosmetic interventions every few years do not count. If you follow the advice of experienced builders and finishers, the first signs of a major overhaul are:

Strange sounds when tapping plaster. If, when knocking, the wall begins to sound like an empty drum in at least half of its area, do not tighten it.

The plaster can fall off at any time, and re-pasted wallpaper will not only not hold it in place, but will also become an aggravating circumstance. Wet external walls. Have you noticed such a problem?

The reason is the leakage of the walls and their constant contact with the street environment.

A simple replacement of drywall or wallpaper is not enough; you need to work closely with the plaster. Worn-out electrical wiring. To replace communications you will have to make a lot of effort.

If the problem is local, then you can get by with local repairs, but in the case of laying new electrical wiring throughout the entire apartment or room, it is better not to save money and do two things at once.

Venetian plaster

The material looks noble, expensive - and incredibly beautiful. Venetian plaster has pearlescent, smoky tints, soft lines and resembles marble. In certain lighting conditions, a muted glow is noticeable on the wall. There are many types of Venetian plaster: Trevignano, Veneto, Imperiale, Encausto, Marbello and others.

  • silicate (with a base on liquid potassium glass or silicone resin).

Decorative plasters
are considered:

  • textured plaster for concrete;
  • Venetian multilayer;
  • Moroccan (glossy analogue of Venetian);
  • Byzantine (subtype of Venetian);
  • American (in the form of raindrops);
  • liquid wallpaper (or Danish plaster);

Decorative textured concrete plaster is an ideal solution for interiors in loft, steampunk, industrial and grunge styles. It well imitates a rough concrete surface with chips, scratches and a web of cracks. This coating is an expensive type of wall finishing and requires special skill in application. But the effect in the form of a stunning, brutal and charismatic interior is worth it!

With proper design, a laconic finish can become truly luxurious. Our designers create exclusive design projects for apartment interiors, in which long hallways and halls almost always devoid of natural light become attractive and stylish. Marble panels in combination with Venetian plaster and beveled mirrors, as well as modern ceiling lighting, create a magnificent play of textures, highlights and reflections.

Venetian plaster in the design of the walls of a living room in the Art Deco style with neoclassical elements

The same finishing material, framed by wall moldings with neoclassical stucco decoration, reveals its character in a new way. The interior of the living room, designed in beige monochrome, is especially interesting with the play of single-color textures. Muted beige velvet upholstery of upholstered furniture, light wood floors, wall panels and nude-colored furniture facades in combination with the shiny surface of the beige-gray “Venetian” delight the eye and touch with its textured variety.

Cork wall covering

Cork panels will provide the room with a pleasant appearance, softness, and environmental friendliness. This is perhaps the best modern soundproofing of walls.

Cork is characterized by bactericidal properties and creates a unique microclimate.

The velvety surface is very pleasant to the touch, so it is often used in children's rooms.

The disadvantages of cork coating are a small selection of colors and high cost.

Panels of designer wallpaper and decorative moldings

Using panels in the interior

The panels allow you to realize the bold ideas of designers. A wide variety of options are distinguished by their aesthetics and practicality. This finishing option is chosen to implement modern design trends.

The panels can be similar to the texture of natural wood or stone. Fabric panels are in great demand. Their shade and soft texture create a feeling of comfort. Caring for such a coating will not cause any difficulties.

Convenience

Decorative plaster is not only beautiful, but also resistant to moisture, does not fade in direct sunlight, is easy to maintain, environmentally friendly, and is not a flammable substance. In order to remove dirt, you do not need to use special products. Traditional detergents are fine. The durability of plaster may vary depending on the specific composition, but if the requirements for application, care and operation are met, it can exceed a service life of 15 years.

You can buy decorative plaster for walls both in Moscow - in the Stena-Clavel company showroom, and from regional dealers in many Russian cities, as well as through an online store.

Creative wall decor ideas

3D drawings are suitable for decorating walls. This design will look expressive and believable. To create the effect, a material such as gypsum is used.

With its help you can create volumetric and relief shapes. After hardening, you need to paint them at your discretion.

  • If the desire to carry out wall painting work is great, but the necessary skills and abilities to independently reproduce what you want are not enough, then do not despair, because special stencils are now being produced.
  • With their help, you can easily and effectively add novelty and modernity to your interior by selecting the necessary ornament.

The most current trend in the coming year will be the presence of elements of nature in the interior. You can place animals or plants on the surface of the wall.

To add a touch of originality, you can combine the pattern on the wall with your favorite indoor plants by placing them in a flowerpot. It looks very beautiful and interesting, and most importantly, such a solution will be relevant in the coming 2022.

Cost of application work per sq.m.

Our salon presents samples of decorative plaster of hundreds of textures and shades, including in large formats - so you can easily choose your decor option. But buying plaster for walls is only half the battle; it is important to apply it efficiently and artistically. The application work consists of several stages - preparation of the base, application of the base, finishing and protective layers. This process can take up to a week or more (depending on the area of the room), since the quality of the final decorative coating directly depends on the drying time between layers.

The price for applying decorative plaster per m2 is indicated on the page of each design effect to the right of the texture image. It depends on the degree of readiness of your walls, the chosen application technique and the type of materials used (for example, the composition of the binders - natural or acrylic).

Some types of textures require particularly careful alignment of the walls and more layers to be applied - in this case, the final price per m2 will be higher. In general, the price range for application work is from 700 to 1,600 rubles. per sq. meter. An accurate estimate can be made after inspecting the walls at the site.
