Structure and characteristics of the composite

All layers of composite sheets are connected to each other using a special technology, creating a strong, reliable structure that is resistant to delamination.

The front surface can be painted in different colors, be monochromatic or have different patterns.

The panels are rectangular sheets with a metal or polymer base and a thermal insulation layer.

The inner layer is covered with an anti-corrosion coating. Marks in the form of arrows are applied to the back side of the panels, indicating the cutting direction when cutting sheets.

The outer face layer has decorative and protective layers of polyester or PVDF that protect the material from ultraviolet rays and adverse weather conditions. The front surface of the panels can be painted in different colors, have a wood or brick pattern, natural stone or decorative plaster, and be matte or glossy.

Aluminum, steel or synthetic sheets are used to give strength, rigidity and reinforcement to the panels.

The basis of the composite is a polymer filler, which is responsible for the technical properties of the material.

The multilayer structure is held together by a layer of adhesive or PVDF resin.

Fig.1. Structure of aluminum composite.

Composite panels can be used at temperatures from -50 to +80°C.

The material is not subject to corrosion, is resistant to aggressive natural influences, and is not affected by mold and microorganisms. Refers to low flammability.

According to fire safety standards, the material is allowed for use in the cladding of individual residential buildings and public buildings.

The best manufacturers

The production of composite panels is a complex process, carried out only by proven and reliable companies. They even produce additional elements for the installation and repair of building facades. Famous ones include "Gravis" and "Snap". The composite panels of these companies are strong and durable.

Types of composite panels

On the construction market, composite panels are presented in several varieties, differing in composition and number of layers, sizes and color palette:

Aluminum

Consist of thin aluminum plates. They are characterized by high strength and rigidity with low weight. Aluminum panels are not afraid of wind loads. They cost more than their analogues. They can be installed on the facades of high-rise buildings and unstable load-bearing fencing, advertising and decorative structures.

Mineral

They contain foamed polyethylene and fire retardant compounds that reduce the flammability of the material. The material does not melt under the influence of open fire. During combustion, a small amount of smoke is released

Polymer

The basis of the material is polycarbonate. They are lightweight and affordable. They are inferior in strength, rigidity and load-bearing capacity to aluminum and mineral analogues. Used for interior decoration.

Durable and stable compounds are used as decorative and protective coatings:

  1. PVDF paints create a high-quality decorative layer that does not fade in the sun, does not deform in the cold and in hot climates. Does not retain dirt and dust. They do not lose their attractiveness until they are 25 years old.
  2. Laminating films can imitate natural materials such as wood, brick, stone and metal. They serve from 15 to 20 years. They are distinguished by a variety of patterns and colors, high quality finishes and a more expensive price than their analogues.
  3. Oxide coatings form a mirror-like, corrosion-resistant, durable coating on the surface that can serve without loss of quality for up to 20 years.

The color palette of composite panels includes more than 200 items according to the RAL catalogue, of which more than 17 are metallic shades.

Wall panels in the interior of bathrooms and kitchens

Aluminum ceiling panels

Zero vapor permeability does not allow completely covering the bathroom walls with aluminum slabs. They can replace tiles in the shower and protect the walls above the font and washbasins from splashes. If you want to make your bathroom beautiful with the help of a wonderful material, then install strong forced ventilation. It will ensure proper ventilation of the damp room. Likewise, it will get rid of odors in the toilet.

An apron made of aluminum sheet with a digitally printed pattern or stenciled pattern will look great in the kitchen. Usually, moisture-resistant materials are used to line the walls to which the stove and other kitchen equipment are attached. The rest are painted or decorated in other ways.

Fastening system for façade aluminum panels

Several systems from different brands have been developed for mounting on walls, but the general principle of fixing panels on the facade is similar.

Metal brackets with a length of 100 to 250 mm in the form of the letters L or P are installed on the wall surface. The length of the brackets is determined by the thickness of the outer wall insulation. A system of vertical metal profiles-guides is installed on the brackets, onto which façade cassettes are hung. The panel subsystem can be made of aluminum or steel. Hanging takes place on a slide into milled grooves in the flanging of the cassettes. Or through or through special hooks, usually four of them on a cassette. Typical components of ventilated facades based on aluminum facade panels are available in the catalogs of subsystem manufacturers.

Corner connections for the ends of the building, joints for joining window structures, and connecting the wall and roof surface by cladding the parapet have been systematically developed.

For volumetric panels, standard units are modified by extension, or an individual fastening system is developed.

Advantages of panels

Composite materials are environmentally friendly and safe. They have good heat-protective qualities. They do not fade in the sun. They combine strength, rigidity and ductility.

Composite boards have high performance indicators:

  1. Lightness. The weight of one square meter of sheet is from three to eight kilograms, depending on the materials used. Composite panels are 3-4 times lighter than steel sheets of similar rigidity, and 1.5-2 times lighter than aluminum panels.
  2. Durability. Thanks to these indicators, cassettes are manufactured in large sizes, which allows installation work to be carried out in a short time with minimal labor costs.
  3. Resistant to temperature changes and aggressive environmental influences. Can be used in hot climates and extremely low temperatures.
  4. Reliability and durability. Finishing coatings made from composite panels can last up to 50 years without loss of quality and attractive appearance.
  5. Increased sound insulation. In combination with insulating layers and an air gap when installing ventilated facades, they can significantly increase the sound insulation of rooms and protect against street noise.

A wide range of colors and excellent flexibility allow you to create unique facade designs and interior interiors of buildings.

Ventilated facades can be hung on any walls without preliminary preparation, which significantly saves construction or repair costs.

Negative properties include low maintainability. If a composite sheet is damaged, it is almost impossible to repair it.

The risk of scratches on the cladding increases the requirements for installation, storage and transportation of the material.

They don’t burn in fire, they’re not afraid of water, they live long

Aluminum wall panels

Among metals, aluminum stands out for its low specific gravity and resistance to moisture. When pure metal comes into contact with atmospheric oxygen, it becomes covered with a thin layer of oxide. This film is several microns - thousandths of a millimeter, has high hardness and completely protects aluminum from interaction with various substances. As a result, even short-term exposure to acids cannot damage aluminum.

Composite materials for aluminum walls have advantages over similar ones based on wood waste and polyvinyl chloride:

  • do not burn or support combustion;
  • do not emit harmful substances;
  • waterproof;
  • durable;
  • abrasion resistant;
  • lungs;
  • easy to process and cut;
  • decorated with thermal printing;
  • suitable for finishing the facades of buildings of any configuration and height;
  • service life more than 50 years without deformation.

A large selection of colors and patterns, the ability to combine, allow you to create unique finishes for walls, ceilings and facades.

Application area

One of the most common areas of use of composite sheets is the installation of suspended ventilated facades.

Composite sheets have gained wide popularity in the construction and reconstruction of buildings.

Fig.3. The use of composites in the construction of non-standard objects.

Composite sheets are used to create various structures and structures:

  • finishing of loggias and balconies, installation of canopies and cornices;
  • production of signs, information and exhibition stands, outdoor advertising structures;
  • creation of steles, signs, small architectural forms in urban design;
  • decoration of walls, columns, ceilings, inside buildings;
  • installation of office partitions and special furniture;
  • lining of refrigeration chambers and automobile refrigerators;
  • construction of gas stations, kiosks, bus stop pavilions and other non-standard objects.

Composite sheets are widely used in building design. Easily imitate bricks and natural stones, mirrors and metal.

Composite cassettes are not recommended for installation in preschool and educational institutions and hospitals.

Catalog of composite color solutions

The advantage of material with sheet cutting is its unique textures like wood and stone, color solutions and selection for almost any catalog according to RAL and NCS - and this is more than 1000 shades of color rendering alone, it allows you to carry out not only cassette cladding, but also decorative items for signs and advertising (the composite is also used for the interior design of walls of offices and car showrooms, entrance lobbies and slopes, although there are requirements for its flammability and the construction of a special frame underneath it*)

Features of choice

For self-assembly of composite structures, it is worth purchasing the material complete with brackets, guide profiles, fasteners and other accessories.

The reliability of installation and the service life of structures depend on the quality of the panels.

When choosing composite panels, you should be guided by the following recommendations:

  1. The inside of the panel must contain information about the production date, batch number, indicate the production code and type of panel.
  2. Any batch of composite is completed with technical documentation confirming the quality and fire resistance of the material.
  3. Upon receipt of the goods, check the panels for the integrity of the protective film, the absence of defects, dents and scratches. It is important to remember that panels with a high degree of flammability cannot be used in the construction of residential buildings and public buildings.

The protective film indicates the direction of placement of the composite sheets on the facade in order to avoid different colors during installation.

Fig.5. Marking of material on protective film.

Types of panels used

Panel types of composite materials depend on design solutions and dimensions, as well as the degree of flammability - for example: flammable materials cannot be used on the G2-G4 facade and it is recommended to use G2 (FR+ or RF+ material) each plant has its own nomenclature, but it is worth checking in advance. Visually, such material at the end has a light shade, a heavier specific gravity of the sheet or cassette. But the flammable material is dark in color and light in weight, also be careful:

Fraudsters and unscrupulous sellers can paint the ends of the composite sheet white: by giving the desired price to the buyer for a discount, you can purchase a flammable composite product in a sheet, which, when any source of flame is ignited, will light up on the facade within 2-3 minutes. To earn additional profit, the scammer will try to sell a flammable composite - be careful when choosing suppliers and the dubious value of the product below the market price, which starts at 1050 rubles/m2 for low-flammable materials.

Types of sheet materials:

  • Refractory G1 - (Low flammable)
  • Flame retardant copper G1 (FR)
  • Steel panels K-0 (NG)
  • Flammable non-toxic G2-G3
  • Fireproof cassettes made of FR+ steel
  • Galvanized fireproof cassettes NG
  • Composite materials for advertising signs (G4)
  • Perforated panels G1-G4 (Laser processing)

Installation technology for hinged ventilated facades

Curtain ventilated facades are very popular when finishing not only public buildings, but also modern private houses.

They are installed using modern technologies and are suitable for walls made of brick and aerated concrete, reinforced concrete panels and wood.

The ventilation façade design includes:

  • cladding made of composite cassettes;
  • steel subsystem;
  • insulating, vapor barrier and windproof materials.

An air gap is created between the insulation and the facing layer.

Thanks to the air gap, which operates on the principle of an exhaust pipe, the moisture condensing under the façade cladding is drawn out with the ascending air flow into the atmosphere.

In addition, the layer of air is an additional heat insulator. It smoothes out thermal deformations that occur during temperature changes, thereby preventing premature destruction of load-bearing and enclosing structures.

You can use frosted glass or darker colors. Polycarbonate is available for sale in a wide range of colors: opal, bronze, turquoise, blue, orange.

The installation of suspended ventilated facades is carried out in a certain sequence:

  1. The vertical marking of the facade is carried out using a laser tape measure, measuring strips and a tape measure. The marked points are connected by horizontal and vertical lines using paint cord.
  2. In the place where the brackets are attached, holes are drilled and anchor dowels are inserted.
  3. Brackets are mounted, consisting of a fixed load-bearing element and an adjustable movable insert, which is secured using plumb lines at the desired level. The pitch of the brackets should be 40-55 centimeters vertically. The horizontal spacing of the guides must be set based on the dimensions of the composite cassettes.
  4. Mineral wool, penoplex or expanded polystyrene slabs are installed on the frame brackets. In the place where the insulation is hung on the bracket extension, crosswise cuts are made in the slab. The insulation in the center and in the corners is fixed to the wall with glue.
  5. A steam and windproof facade membrane is laid on top of the insulation with an overlap of 10-15 centimeters between the panels. All layers are attached to the wall with disc-shaped dowels.
  6. To install composite panels, U-shaped vertical guides are attached to the brackets with screws or rivets. Spacer plates are inserted into the profile cavity to serve as a hook for façade cassettes. It is important to ensure reliable and rigid fastening of all frame elements strictly in one plane.
  7. Hanging the cassettes should begin from the bottom of the sheathing, aligning the panels strictly horizontally and fixing them in the upper corners with self-tapping screws. The following sheets are attached in the same way, maintaining the same gaps of 10-12 millimeters.

To isolate the metal from the wall, thermal break gaskets made of insulating material are installed under each bracket.

Installation technology of composite aluminum panels

Installation of the automatic transmission is relatively simple and is carried out in the following sequence:

  1. At the first stage, markings are made to accurately install the frame mounting brackets. To carry out marking work, you may need: a laser pointer, a plumb line, a building level, and a tape measure.
  2. After applying the markings, they begin to install the supporting brackets of the sheathing. Depending on the type of base, either metal anchors or dowels with a plastic sleeve can be used.
  3. The next step is laying the thermal insulation and protective film, which are attached to the base using special umbrella dowels.
  4. After laying the heat-insulating layer, the supporting frame guides are secured in the installed brackets using self-tapping screws or rivets.
  5. Composite panels are attached to the sheathing guides using clamping strips, screws or rivets.

Advantages of facades made of composite panels

Ventilated curtain facades made of composite cassettes are very popular due to significant advantages over other finishing options:

  • do not require preliminary leveling of the walls;
  • provide protection for load-bearing enclosing structures from cold and heat, direct sunlight, rain and wind;
  • capable of insulating and increasing noise insulation of buildings;
  • the light weight of the hanging system does not require additional strengthening of the supporting structures.

Ventilated facades eliminate dirty finishing processes and allow structures to be installed in a short time, regardless of the time of year and weather.

Rice. 9. Installation of cassettes made of composite sheets.

By strictly observing the sequence and technology of work, you can create a reliable and beautiful coating, give the facade a unique, bright and modern appearance, increase sound insulation, and achieve tangible energy savings in the building.

The concept of a composite facade

It is represented by a special finishing of the building, which is formed using composite panels. These include layers:

  • facing material that is beautiful, colorful and bright, and it often imitates natural and beautiful materials;
  • frame equipped with fastenings;
  • an insulating layer designed to protect the structure from cold, moisture and wind;
  • a gap called ventilation, as it allows air to pass freely between the wall of the building and the facing material.

Composite facades are also called ventilated facades. They have numerous advantages and are also available in different types. They easily cope with atmospheric and mechanical influences, and also have a long service life.

Aluminum composite panels are a modern building material that is widely used for cladding facades, interior decoration, for creating outdoor advertising structures, as well as in many other areas of life. The peculiarity of the material is that in its structure it is a heterogeneous, layered product consisting of several components. The basis of the material is made up of aluminum panels (aluminum sheet, up to 0.5 mm thick), between them there are polymer sheets, and on top of each panel is coated with special compounds that give additional strength characteristics to the product. The total thickness of such a product varies from 2 to 6 mm. This article will discuss the variety of aluminum composite panels.

Characteristics and composition of aluminum composite panels

The design of aluminum panels is a multilayer structure, where aluminum sheets are taken as the basis, and polymer or mineral fillers are used as a layer. The most common type of product is a product with the following sequence of layers (starting from the bottom):

  • protective coating with anti-corrosion properties;
  • primer composition, which also gives the product rust resistance;
  • sheet of high-strength aluminum (first);
  • a layer of non-toxic plastic or other polymer material;
  • sheet of high-strength aluminum (second);
  • primer composition based on polyvinylidene fluoride resin (PVDF);
  • PVDF-based paint and varnish composition;
  • film to protect the product.

In addition, aluminum composite panels from goldstar and a number of other well-known manufacturers have a non-combustible base.

  • The use of PVDF compositions provides many advantages to the product compared to the use of other types of products. Thus, enamel, which combines polyvinylidene fluoride resins with polymer acrylic resins, can be applied in just one layer and at the same time evenly color the surface. This composition is not afraid of mechanical stress, is resistant to ultraviolet radiation, resistant to acids, salts and alkalis, and to high humidity. In addition, it perfectly tolerates temperature fluctuations, as well as high and low temperatures (-60 – +120 degrees).
  • Many manufacturers of aluminum composite panels are trying to improve this product by adding additional layers to the structure. For example, you can often see products with a carbide layer or anti-toxic materials. Thus, manufacturers are trying to highlight their products and make them more competitive. But, of course, it is worth considering that the more layers in the product, the higher the price of aluminum composite panels becomes. For example, the cost of bildex aluminum composite panels per m2 varies from 700 to 2000 rubles.
  • The main characteristic of panels, which allows them to be used in many areas where a large-scale product size is required, is their weight. The weight of 1 m2 of aluminum composite panels is only 3-8 kg. Of course, such a product is not a heat-insulating product, and when used to create ventilated facades, thermally breaking materials based on paronite or plastic must be laid between the panels and the wall. The sheet itself has such precisely selected parameters that when the top layer of aluminum is heated (for example, under the influence of sunlight), the inner layer of polymer substance equalizes the temperatures and that is why the product does not deform.

Aluminum composite panels photo

Each panel has standard sizes that vary in certain parameters. An individual order is also possible, in which case the manufacturer will cut the sheets to the measurements specified by the client. The following indicators are considered standard sizes:

  • length 244 cm (maximum possible value is 5.8 m);
  • width 120 cm or 155 cm (depending on the manufacturer);
  • thickness from 2 mm to 6 mm.

You can buy aluminum composite panels of different thicknesses, here the number of layers can change, as well as the thickness of the aluminum sheet itself, the most voluminous sheet will be 0.5 mm.

Production of aluminum composite panels

To produce an aluminum panel with the required number of layers, there are three important stages in production:

  • preparation of aluminum and all components (chemosynthesis).
  • Painting and priming.
  • Pressing.

So, first of all, aluminum should be prepared for further use. Metal is supplied to factories in rolls. To rid the material of dirt, dust or grease film, it is subjected to chemical cleaning. That is, special chemicals are added to washing solutions that do not spoil aluminum, but at the same time efficiently remove any dirt.

  • Straightened aluminum undergoes chemosynthesis to ensure that the purification is carried out as efficiently as possible. In addition to pollutants, the metal also gets rid of impurities of silicone, iron, copper and magnesium deposits. Also, it is at this stage that a special composition is applied to the sheets, which in the future greatly facilitates the painting procedure.
  • After such preparation, the aluminum tape goes into further production, that is, the painting process follows in an insulated, hermetically sealed chamber. Only high-quality enamel is used, since not only the appearance of the finished product, but also its durability characteristics depend on it.
  • Paint and varnish products can be based on fluorocarbons or polyesters. The specific coloring composition depends on the further purpose of the finished panels. Thus, facade aluminum composite panels are coated with fluorocarbon paints and have a thicker layer of metal. If the further purpose of the composite is the interior, then the paint is used on a polyester basis, while thinner metal is used.

  • In order to paint the sheets with the highest quality, a continuous dyeing method is used. Paint can be applied on one side - the front, or on both sides at once. The color comes in a wide variety of colors; in addition, products are produced whose surface resembles various natural materials.
  • The third stage is the most critical. Here the procedure of thermal gluing and pressing is carried out. The aluminum strip is again rolled into a roll. Aluminum is simultaneously supplied to a special device from two rolls, between which a synthetic polymer is extruded. The metal is combined with a polymer or mineral material, and the space must be filled with non-flammable substances. The entire process is carried out at high temperature.
  • Since polyethylene placed inside the product does not have high adhesion, some manufacturers additionally fix the layer. To do this, a special film is placed between the layer of metal and polyethylene, which connects the two components of the product (metal and polymer) as firmly as possible.

Aluminum composite panels alucobond

  • At the last stage of production of aluminum composite panels, a final protective layer is applied, cut into the required sizes and sent for quality control.

Advantages of Aluminum Composite Panels

  • Aluminum composite panels have many advantages. That is why this material conquered the domestic market so quickly. Among the most important parameters are the following: lightness;
  • durability;
  • fire resistance;
  • reliability and strength;
  • elasticity.
  • Aluminum composite panels come in a variety of colors. In addition to aesthetics, this is a durable coating that is characterized by a long period of operation. It can last for more than 10 years and there will be no visible signs of fading or cracking throughout the entire period. The coating remains just as durable and bright. In addition, the paints used are practically impervious to contamination.
  • Since the surface does not have an adhesive or electrifying component, even when heated to high temperatures. Therefore, the settled dust is washed away with the first rain. If the product is used in the interior, then it is enough to wipe it 3-4 times a year with a soft cloth moistened with water.
  • Aluminum composite panels can have a complex shape, that is, if you need to go around a corner, or cover an oval object, they will cope with the task perfectly. It is possible to bend sheets at an angle of up to 180 degrees. This flexibility and low weight greatly facilitate the installation process. Products can be cut, sawed, bent, rolled and processed in many other ways. In addition, it is possible to create a unique style and design for any building.
    • Aluminum sheets are sufficiently resistant to external factors. They do not corrode and are not afraid of chemical reagents. It also exhibits significant resistance to mechanical stress. They do not deform under impacts and pressure.
    • Aluminum panels can withstand both high and low temperatures, and they are also not afraid of sudden temperature fluctuations. This allows the products to be used in any climatic conditions, even in hot countries, even in regions with a harsh climate.
    • Despite the low thermal insulation, the panels have noise-absorbing properties. So, when finishing walls made of concrete, its sound insulation approximately doubles.
    • Externally, this is quite an attractive material, it is stylish and modern. That is why it is gaining more and more popularity, both when cladding external walls and for decorating interior spaces. In addition, it is often used to create outdoor advertising structures. The resulting shields are durable and quite presentable.

    Scope of application of aluminum panels

    • The most common area of use of the products was the exteriors of various buildings. Ventilated facades are considered the most popular. But this is far from the only area where aluminum panels have found their application. Thus, you can often find interior space in public institutions decorated with this particular material. Most often, these are buildings of train stations, airports, schools, car dealerships, shopping centers, cinemas and hospitals. That is, where the flow of people is most intense and durable, durable materials are required that can withstand a long process of use in an unchanged condition, and at the same time make the interior attractive.

    • Also very often, panels can be seen in structures for outdoor advertising and in temporary pavilions for exhibitions or other events. Aluminum sheets are excellent for the restoration of old buildings whose external walls are no longer amenable to restoration and renovation. The panels provide a modern design, attractive appearance and soundproofing properties.

    Errors in installation and delivery of aluminum composite panels

    • In order for aluminum panels to really serve for a long time and not be damaged during operation, it is necessary to follow a number of rules even at the stage of transporting them to the place of use. So, upon delivery, be sure to ensure that the outer, front layer remains intact and is not damaged or scratched by sharp objects.
    • To prevent damage, it is important to lay cardboard or other material with similar properties between several sheets. You should also protect the panels from hitting hard surfaces or falling from great heights. This means that if you plan to lift the sheets above the ground several meters, you should use special clamps that will securely fix the products.
    • When installing aluminum sheets, do not forget that when heated, they expand slightly, that is, it is necessary to leave small gaps between the panels, and make a rigid clamp only on one side (corner), leaving the remaining edges with a slight play.
