Tikkurila paint: features, advantages and disadvantages

Painting walls or ceilings is not a simple finishing job. It requires patience and attentiveness. Nowadays, many people quite often do repairs on their own, so as not to spend money and learn something new. Different paints can be used to paint walls. In our article we will analyze in detail the nuances of interior decoration of walls or ceilings, and also tell you about Tikkurila brand paint.

Tikkurila paint - features

Painting is an integral part of construction and repair work. When choosing a painting material, you need to take into account its characteristics and scope of application. The Tikkurila company has been a leader in the production of paint and varnish products for more than 150 years. All this time, it has been using the latest technologies in its production.

Brightness and invulnerability of the facade from Tikkuril

Perhaps it is the Finns, like no one else, who understand and relate to our climate with its snow, temperature changes, winds and rains. It is no coincidence that the painting material of the Finnish company Tikkurila is most suitable for our realities.

  • Adverse weather conditions are not a reason to deny yourself the aesthetic construction of outdoor works using all kinds of colors.
  • Tikkuril paints for external work can also provide long-term protection of building materials.
  • For example, coated wooden outdoor parts of structures, in addition to a beautiful color, will acquire reliable protection from rotting and damage by insects.
  • Tikkuril facade paints help extend the service life and give an individual style to the entire home.
  • It is possible to paint even the stone parts of the facade.

We also produce facade paint for concrete, plaster, and metal parts of the structure.

All the average person needs to do is carefully study the catalogs and information photos on the website. And good luck with your renovation!

Tikkurila paint - types

Taking into account the area and place of application, Tikkurila produces different types of paint and varnish products:

  1. Water-based paint is liquid substances in a liquid;
  2. Water-dispersion paint is solid and small substances in a liquid (suspension);
  3. Polyurethane paint.

Each of these types differs in the composition of the filler and is divided into types. All include:

  • Antiseptic components;
  • Various thickeners;
  • Colorful fillers;
  • Latex;
  • Emulsifiers for emulsions, with their help the homogeneity of the mass is achieved.

Tikkurila water-based paint

Produced by emulsifying several components. Classification occurs according to the presence of the components used. There are such types of paints as:

  • Acrylic;
  • Latex;
  • Silicone;
  • Polyvinyl acetate.

Acrylic paint Tikkurila

The binder component of this paint is acrylic resins. The presence of resin gives the paint elasticity, the ability to paint over minor cracks and has a long service life. This paint belongs to the moisture-resistant category and is used in rooms with high humidity. It dissolves with water, which creates the desired viscosity of Tikkurila paint. It does not have a pungent odor. Dries quickly at room temperature. The desired color scheme is achieved by adding tint.

Tikkurila latex paint

This paint contains natural or synthetic rubber. The use of natural rubber leads to higher prices for products. In this regard, modern production uses synthetic raw materials, which leads to a significant reduction in the cost of paint. The scope of Tikkurila latex paint is very wide. It can perform finishing work both inside and outside the room. It easily covers surfaces:

  • Wooden;
  • Concrete;
  • Brick;
  • Plastic.

The base color of latex paint is white; tint is used to select the desired color. It does not emit a pungent odor. Water is used as a solvent. When using such paint, it is necessary to thoroughly prepare the surface and be sure to apply a primer.

Silicone paint Tikkurila

Silicone paint is based on organosilicon resins. It consists of resin, water, filler. Base color – white. Using coloring pigments and colors, the desired color is selected. It is easily applied to any surface and does not emit a pungent odor. The main advantage of tikkurila paint is:

  • Long service life - up to 20 years.
  • Moisture-resistant, in case of contamination it is easy to clean without losing its original appearance.
  • Heat resistance, does not change its physical state when heated.
  • Resistant to sunlight.
  • Resistance to mechanical damage.

The disadvantages include the fact that paint cannot be applied to metal parts of the surface due to the fact that it causes corrosion of the metal.

Tikkurila water-dispersion paint

There are no emulsifiers in water-dispersion paint. Water contains suspensions of tiny particles of pigments and polymers. The binding material in it is:

  • Polyvinyl acetate (PVA);
  • Acrylic;
  • Latex.

The positive characteristics of tikkurila water-dispersion paint include:

  • Long service life;
  • Breathable effect;
  • Temperature changes are not scary;
  • Moisture resistance;
  • An environmentally friendly product without a pungent odor;
  • Resistant to detergents.

Its main difference from water-based paint is its low price.

Polyurethane paint Tikkurila

For metal products, Tikkuril produces polyurethane paint. This paint is mainly intended for the industrial sector. This paint does a good job of protecting metal surfaces from water. It can prevent metal corrosion. Application area:

  • Steel structures;
  • Construction equipment;
  • Machine tools;
  • Markings on sports grounds.

Tikkurila polyurethane paint is called two-component, it consists of a solvent and a hardener. Using a solvent, the paint is brought to the desired consistency. The viscosity should correspond to 30 – 60 sec. DIN4. To obtain a good result, use a special solvent 1048; 1061; 1067. A hardener is added to the resulting mixture in a ratio of 5 to 1. Painting work is carried out at an ambient temperature of at least +5 degrees. The working time of the mixture is 4 hours. Drying period from 4 to 6 hours.

Joker

Joker paint is also an acrylate composition, does not contain solvents and has a silky effect. The material has been awarded the Ecosign certificate, as it meets the highest environmental standards. The paint is used in rooms where people with low allergic and asthmatic thresholds live, and is recommended for painting walls in a nursery.

Joker paints all types of interior surfaces, the paint is used for painting new and previously painted walls.

The degree of gloss is matte, the packaging ranges from 0.225 to 18 liters, and the consumption is 7–12 m2 per liter of Joker.

Wet friction resistance class No. 2, so the walls are subject to wet cleaning, but without much fanaticism.

Tikkurila paint - colors

The color perception of the human eye is individual for everyone. For one person, one color seems saturated and will please the eye, but another person does not like this color. There are people who are colorblind; they have a different sense of color. The company has been taking into account consumer demand for many years and creates a large number of shades. Color catalogs will help you make the right choice. They are created taking into account all application factors. There are Tikkurila paint color catalogs:

  • For creating interior design, with a wide range of shades.
  • For exterior decoration, taking into account the environment.

The color catalog is printed on glossy paper, which conveys a full palette of colors. You can view it in the store and on the website of the company’s official dealers; color catalogs are presented there:

  • For interior work;
  • For outdoor work;
  • For facades;
  • For walls;
  • For metal.

Particular attention should be paid to the angle and light in which Tikkuril paint will look. Under different lighting, shades will play differently. The quality and cleanliness of the surface being painted also affects the shade. In addition to the color catalog, there are also thematic tables:

  • Floor covering;
  • For interior walls;
  • For wooden facade;
  • For furniture;
  • For stone facades.

Having received complete information from these sources, it will not be difficult for you to choose the right color scheme.

Recommendations for choosing wall colors

The shade of the future coating - another selection criterion - is determined depending on the degree of illumination of the room. On the one hand, bright rooms need special protection from sunlight. On the other hand, you can use a different palette for them: from white to graphite. Conversely, it is better to paint poorly lit small rooms in light, warm colors. And with good artificial lighting, the choice of color is not limited to anything.

The choice of color is also influenced by the style direction of the interior and the general purpose of the room. Brown shades in the bedroom give comfort, coziness and tranquility. Yellow accents in the kitchen will energize you and lift your spirits in the morning. Neutral tones are often used as the main one; they are the easiest to combine with other colors.

An important criterion that is often forgotten is the presence of shine. Glossy paint looks impressive and is able to reflect light, thereby making the room brighter. But, unlike it, matte hides the unevenness and roughness of the walls. Professional designers are able to harmoniously combine these two opposing characteristics and create interesting designs.

Here are examples of Tikkurila products that meet all of the above recommendations and have excellent reviews:

  • Siro Mat refers to a matte finish, which contains mainly light shades in the line;
  • Taika has collected gold and silver shades with a glossy effect in its palette;
  • Magnetic is used for decorative painting in a matte deep gray color;
  • Joker is used to paint plastered walls in rich, bright colors.

In conclusion, it can be noted that you should not save when choosing paint for the walls, but you also do not need to overpay. It is best to contact a specialized store where they will help you with any question. After all, the right choice of this product will allow you to enjoy the look of the room for a long time.

You will learn how to properly combine paints for Tikkurila walls in the next video.

Advantages:

Excellent application. Washable, impact resistant, non-fading paint

Flaws:

Didn't find it

When renovating the apartment, the walls were prepared for painting. Anyone who has painted walls in an apartment knows that preparing walls for painting is not an easy task. The walls must be perfectly smooth, without scratches or other defects. You can hire professional craftsmen and they will do all the work. But this is not a cheap pleasure and not everyone can afford it. If you don’t have extra money, you can do it yourself, but it’s ideal, especially since it’s unlikely to succeed the first time. But don’t get upset and change your plans. Now there is a huge choice on the paint market! When choosing paint, I wanted to get wear-resistant, washable paint that would not fade over time and would cover minor scratches on the putty. The choice fell on Tikkurila Perfecta. This is new. The paint applies really well, dries in about an hour until it's tacky, and the color is rich. A day later it was completely dry, the color did not change after drying. Several times, when arranging furniture, I touched the wall, but the paint held up. But these are light blows, don’t expect a miracle; it certainly won’t withstand strong hooks, after all, it’s paint, not a metal protective barrier. All characteristics declared by the manufacturer are true. But it only covers very light scratches. If you have stronger scratches on the wall, but no more than 1 mm, then it is still better to use latex or silicone paints.

Advantages:

Covering power, ease of application, no odor. Reasonable price.

Flaws:

Didn't find it.

Getting ready to do some renovations, I decided to abandon the age-old wallpaper and try to play with colors. Yes, the preparation process itself is more complex and time-consuming, but it is not critical, considering that then after one preparation the walls can be repainted at least every month. Let's leave the lyrical digression and move directly to the material. Tikkurila essentially has two segments: Medium (Euro series, materials are made from European raw materials, here near St. Petersburg) and Premium (all production is located in Finland). Based on my finances, I decided to go with “domestic”. The difference from the imported one is the absence of a bunch of certificates of environmental friendliness, environmental protection, etc., etc. (Scandinavian countries are obsessed with ecology) and a slightly higher consumption of material. For me personally, it doesn’t matter. For walls in bedrooms and living rooms I recommend Euro7 (matte), for kitchens, bathrooms, corridors Euro20 (features super-washable properties and a semi-matte (satin) shine), for ceilings we use Euro3 (deep matte, hides small surface flaws). All materials have excellent hiding power; any color can be painted in 2 layers. There is practically no smell; other water-based emulsions smell very strongly of chalk. Paints on easily and without streaks, although this may depend on your hands). After drying, the surface is pleasant to the touch, alive. In general, I recommend it, the material is 5+!!!

We were renovating the premises for future business. The task was to paint one of the walls red. We did the repairs ourselves. And so the choice of all the colors also fell on our shoulders. The walls in the room are plasterboard and already covered with paint. We wanted to do an economy class renovation, so we bought paint and added callers to get a red color. It took about 17 callers for 7 kg of paint. In a word, they suffered and suffered and did not get what they wanted. We concluded that we still need to look for more expensive paints and talk to the sellers there. We found Tikkurila paints in our city, talked, and decided to buy! And most importantly, we found the color we wanted. Very quickly the machine mixed the paint for us, we bought it, and left satisfied. But, naturally, I was completely satisfied after painting, the color turned out to be incomparable, simply gorgeous, the texture depends on the roller and the series of paint. But it looks very cool, very deep color. It’s better to buy more expensive but get excellent results. I recommend! Happy painting!

I decided not to throw away the old Soviet trellis, but to update it! Unfortunately, I didn’t take a photo of the trellis before, it’s a bit visible in my photo, but this is the type of trellis:

After a long search on the Internet - what is the best way to paint polished furniture, I chose Tikurila alkyd enamel, which is suitable for furniture. The paint is certainly not cheap (1 liter cost 590 rubles), but on the forums they insisted that it couldn’t be found better. The seller said that 1 liter is enough for 4 square meters in 2 layers. The trellis area is of course smaller, so I still have more than half left. I was going to paint the bed as well, but I got lazy and didn’t.

The consistency of the paint is gel, do not mix it before use! If you accidentally interfere, you should let it sit for half an hour (according to the seller). There is a smell, but not pungent, quite tolerable.

First, I thoroughly sanded the polished surface with sandpaper until matte. There are some glossy spots left somewhere, but that's not a big deal.

The store said that it is better to paint with a “smooth”, not fluffy roller. I didn’t buy the right one right away, thinking that I would probably have one at home. I tried to paint it with foam rubber, but it turned out to be a lot of bubbles. A lint roller leaves lint on the surface. Therefore, in the end I just painted it with a brush; the stripes, of course, remain, but in the end they are not visible.

I painted it in 2 layers, with a break of a day, 2 evenings that is. the paint dries quickly - I painted it in the evening, in the morning it no longer stuck (but it was in the summer).

In general, it lays down tightly and evenly in one layer, the second layer was the control! In two layers:

The result satisfied me - smooth, uniform coloring. I painted it about 3 months ago. And recently I got around to finishing the trellis and made it lace in a vintage style:

You can read how in a review of another paint.

Review of the paint used to paint on glass

Review of the luxurious blue and gold wallpaper with photos and videos of my royal corner.

By the way, during the process I had to wipe off this other paint from the surface with solvent “No. 1”, and Tikkurila was not damaged in any way.

I definitely recommend the paint!

I’ll tell you step by step how we brought the ceiling in our “Khrushchev” into decent condition using Tikkurila paint. The largest room, popularly called the “hall,” which was allocated for our children’s room, was undergoing renovation. Nowadays it is very fashionable to make suspended ceilings, but they don’t seem entirely environmentally friendly to me, so it was customary to make a traditional painted ceiling in the child’s room. Moreover, for painting, I immediately planned to choose the highest quality and most modern paint. Naturally, my choice fell on Tikkurila, since many of my friends praised this paint. Although, to be honest, actually painting the ceiling is the easiest finishing stage. Before painting, you need to carefully prepare the ceiling.

Preparing the ceiling for painting:

1. Removing old whitewash. The process is very labor intensive and very dusty. Our house is 58 years old, during which time the ceiling was whitewashed many times, so the layer of whitewash was impressive, and in some places the plaster collapsed on its own. They stripped everything down to the concrete slab.

2. Leveling the ceiling using gypsum putty.

3. Then a thin layer of finishing putty was applied to the leveled ceiling.

4. Next, the ceiling was coated with impregnation without fail.

Ceiling painting:

My husband tried to dissuade me from using Tikkurila paint because it was expensive, but I firmly stood my ground and decided that we would only paint the ceiling with Tikkurila.

Choice of paint: It turned out that Tikkurila has different types of paints. Some paints are designed for wet areas, others for dry areas. Some paints are glossy, other types are purely matte, and there are also intermediate options - semi-matte and semi-gloss. Having carefully studied the whole variety of Tikkurila paints, we chose Tikkurila Harmony paint, since it suited us best in terms of its characteristics - for dry rooms and matte.

Tikkurila Harmony - used for painting walls in living rooms, children's rooms, bedrooms and other dry rooms. Can also be used for ceilings in dry rooms.

Advantages: paints:

1. This paint is completely matte. For some reason I don't like glossy ceilings. It seems to me that over time the gloss begins to irritate. Moreover, the matte finish of this paint is so pleasing to the eye, it’s like velvet. The camera, unfortunately, does not convey these sensations.

2. The paint is absolutely snow-white, when you open the paint bucket you immediately see how flawlessly white it is.

3. The paint goes on smoothly and is easy to paint even for non-professionals like us. Tikkurila seems to level out minor defects in the ceiling surface that we made when leveling the ceiling with putty.

4. Like all paints from this manufacturer, Tikkurila Harmony is an environmentally friendly paint that does not emit harmful substances. Since we have a ceiling in the nursery, and I am a very responsible mother, for me this was the main factor when choosing paint.

5. The paint is practically odorless. Since we were doing renovations without leaving the apartment with the child, the absence of smell was extremely important for us. True, at first after painting there was a slight smell, quite tolerable to the sense of smell, but after some time it disappeared.

6. Very good covering power - we applied the paint 2 times with a paint roller. Moreover, on the advice of the sales consultant, 1 layer of paint was diluted with water, the second layer was painted without diluting.

7. Tikkuril paint dries very quickly. I was especially pleased with this.

Flaws:

1. The only drawback is the expensive price. For decent quality you have to shell out honestly earned money. For a 2.7 liter bucket we paid 2200 rubles. This volume was just enough for a room of 15 square meters.

Conclusion: I couldn’t be happier with my ceiling; it’s so clean and snow-white that it’s nice to look at it. So smooth, absolutely perfect. It is immediately obvious that it is painted with high-quality paint. The sales consultants also said that the ceiling and walls painted with Tikkurila can also be washed, but I’m not taking the risk yet, and there’s no particular need. I didn’t regret spending money on paint for a minute. This is a situation where the money was not wasted. By the way, earlier we did in this room

a partition made of plasterboard, thereby separating the hall from the corridor. After repairing the ceiling, we began repairing the walls. The walls in the Khrushchev building are very complex - uneven, made clumsily by the builders. Therefore, first we carefully stripped them, then carefully prepared them, strengthened them as much as possible, and then finally covered them with safe

non-woven wallpaper made in Germany.

Tikkurila paint has positive reviews. When I first came across it, I was a little puzzled by the price. But after getting to know each other, I concluded that the price corresponds to the quality. Savings can be achieved by pre-treating the surface with primer. You won't regret using this paint.

easy to apply, water-based, dries quickly

Flaws:

No

Details:

Painted the bedroom in the apartment. Very easy to apply and dries instantly. There is no smell. The layers are applied evenly, no smudges or layers. The color range is huge. If you don’t have enough, you can buy anywhere in 1.3 and 10 liters. A little more expensive than analogues, but the quality is worth it. By the way, I bought it in Finke for comparison, the quality is the same as in Russia.

Advantages:

The quality has been checked many times. The quality does not change from batch to batch.

Flaws:

Not noticed, not the most budget-friendly

Details:

Tikkurila Evro 7 paint has been used many times. At various and newly constructed and reconstructed facilities. One of the advantages of the paint is its truly white color. The paint is demanding in terms of surface preparation, that is, if you use it to paint, for example, a ceiling, then for a high-quality result you will need to apply finishing putty in several (at least two) layers with sanding.

It is also worth using rollers with short and medium-sized pile. This paint is not one of those that is “easy” to achieve an excellent result; if you do not have the skills to paint large surfaces, contact professional painters. This is a very decent quality paint, and the result is always excellent, but for painting over old layers, unprepared surfaces, and in cases where the result is not so important, you should choose a simpler paint.

Good afternoon, just recently my wife and I got a dacha. First of all, we decided to refine it and put it in order, for this we purchased a lot of different materials and Tikkurila paint, which I can say we were pleased with the paint, it is very stable, it applied perfectly, we didn’t even have to paint in several layers.

I bought “Tikkurila” paint to paint the bathroom. Since the room has high humidity, the paint had to be selected taking this into account. I bought paint in several colors: pistachio, beige and white. The paint went on smoothly, dried quickly enough and there was no particular smell .After moisture testing, it does not crack.

I painted everything with tikkuril harmony, I’m happy! I painted the ceilings with repairs and yasa. I also painted it a little with pearlescent glaze, we painted the furniture with Helmi - super paint!

Advantages:

Thick, good hiding power. The color, after drying, matches the one selected from the fan.

Flaws:

I did not notice. The higher price is not a disadvantage)).

Details:

The paint did not disappoint. The number of layers directly depends on the color saturation. The foundation also matters. The more textured the wallpaper, the greater the likelihood of uneven color when applied and dried. Tikkurila Euro 7 is quite thick.

What you need to know. Color. Choosing a color - choosing a paint base. I recommend tinting in a store, in a specialized tinting machine. When dry, the color fully matches the color selected in the tinting fan. Often, after complete drying, the paint changes shade, darkens or brightens.

Advice. If you are tinting in a store, do a test color. Dry with a hair dryer. It’s better for you to visually verify the shade on the spot. If you are not satisfied, step up the fan line to a more saturated shade. Look in the plane in which the paint will be applied. And definitely in daylight! In a small volume, color is perceived differently. Tikkurila Euro 7 does not give up its position, the quality is consistently good. It does not change for the worse, as happens over time). Price - the choice is yours. It's cheaper to buy paint and have to worry about painting it. Or spend money when purchasing and save workers’ time and your nerves. Guarantee of excellent results, important during repairs).

Dries quickly, does not stink, is easy to apply and washes

Flaws:

Details:

During the last renovation, we were faced with the question: how to finish the walls. We considered washable wallpaper, paintable wallpaper and painting the walls as an option. The main point was that the surface could get dirty and should be easy to clean, since we have a large dog, and we wanted to make most of the walls white or very light. I also wanted the walls in the rooms to be different colors, but blend well with each other. This criterion almost excluded the choice of wallpaper that did not require painting, since we did not find wallpaper of different colors from the same collection and of decent quality for reasonable money. Preparing the walls for direct painting turned out to be problematic and expensive, so we decided to go with wallpaper for painting. It’s convenient that I only had to buy 4 rolls of wallpaper for the entire apartment, since they are sold in large and wide rolls. We decided to paint it with Tikkurila Euro 7 paint because it gets good reviews.

This paint is sold in 2 versions: “A” for tinting in light shades and “C” for tinting in bright colors. It applies well, for light colors 2 layers are enough, for bright colors it is advisable to do 3. It dries super quickly! In 2 hours we get a completely dry surface. Almost no smell and does not give glossy highlights.

After the repair, a little paint of each color remained, which is very convenient for touching up minor defects and scratches. The paint applied to them instantly becomes exactly the same as what was applied before. If the wall is dirty with something and cannot be washed, it’s also not a problem. A couple of strokes - and everything is fine. By the way, the paint washes very well too. We must try to somehow damage it. I usually take a sponge and wash off small stains with dishwashing detergent or soap.

In general, the solution turned out to be very practical: the paint applies well, dries quickly, does not smell, washes well and is not afraid of minor defects such as scratches and caustic dirt, since it is easy to paint over. Another nice bonus: if you get tired of the color, it’s easy to refresh your decor by simply repainting a couple of walls in a new color.

Note to the housewife: be sure to save the paint color codes so that, if necessary, you can color a small jar of paint to repair defects when the remaining paint from the repair dries.

Which paint to choose

When choosing a painting material for finishing work, it is necessary to take into account all existing criteria. Value for money.

A cheap product may not give high-quality results. But the high price of paint does not guarantee 100% results.

It all depends on the work done to prepare the surface for painting. It is also necessary to take into account the scope of application and the structure of the surface to be painted. According to experts and, according to consumer reviews, the leader is silicone water-based paint TIKKURILA EURO EXTRA 20 (2.7 l.) Area of application - walls and ceilings. You can buy paint in many stores.

Among silicate paints for walls and ceilings, experts call the leader water-based paint TIKKURILA FINNGARD SILIKAATTIMAALI (18 l).

Latex washable paint for walls and ceilings TIKKURILA EUORO POWER 7 has proven itself well among consumers.

Painting

When working with Tikkurila wall paint, there are rules that must be followed.

Before application, the solution must be turned into a homogeneous mass by stirring. If the recommendations on the package say to dilute it with water, it is better to take the advice and do this, so the paint will lay down in a more even layer.

To check whether the color suits you or not, apply it to a small piece of cardboard and let the material dry. After this, you will determine whether you are happy with the shade. Don't forget that dried paint is slightly different in color from fresh paint.

Attention! The surface for painting must be pre-prepared. Before processing, the wall or ceiling must first be puttied and primed.

Decorative effect paints

A room painted in a single color looks clean, but boring. If you paint the walls using paint with a decorative effect, the room will take on an exclusive look. Paint in this category is called decorative. Using decorative paints the following effects are created:

  • Under the cut of natural stone;
  • Under the skin;
  • Velvety surface;
  • With the effect of silk thread;
  • Nacre;
  • With a metallic sheen.

The paint is applied to the surface using conventional tools, a brush, a roller or a spray gun. To achieve a more pronounced effect, use rollers with a highlighted relief or a special pattern. Calculate the material consumption for at least two layers. Popular varieties of decorative paint from Tikkuril:

  • Harmony - requires ideal preparation of the walls, they must be smooth.
  • Liitu - for school boards.
  • Magnetic – with magnetic properties.

  • Miranol – for metal and wood surfaces.

Harmony

Tikkurila Harmony is a latex acrylate paint, has good durability and has a velvety matte texture. It can be painted with equal success:

  1. — Plastered,
  2. - Putty,
  3. — Plasterboard,
  4. — Concrete walls.

The main application of Symphony is painting walls, but the brand is often used for painting ceilings in residential premises. The main requirement is normal humidity, so the paint is not suitable for the bath, but just right for the bedroom and nursery.

Material consumption depends on the degree of absorption of the surface. On walls with low absorbency, the consumption is 7–9 m2 per liter; when painting surfaces with high absorbency, the consumption increases to 12 m2 per liter of paint.

Harmony is available in containers ranging from 0.9 to 18 liters, and the initial drying time is only 30 minutes. The layers are applied at intervals of 1–2 hours, the painted surface can be subjected to wet cleaning, since the paint meets ISO wet friction resistance class 2. Thermal resistance of the material is 85ºС, ISO 4211-3, if the walls are painted using a spray gun, then a nozzle of 0.017″–0.021″ should be used.

How to paint with Tikkurila

To obtain a high-quality result, the company recommends choosing paint that matches the type of wall. It is also useful to determine the paint consumption in advance (by the area of the facade) and plan the work for a favorable, dry and warm period.

Surface preparation

The surface of the facade is prepared in accordance with the requirements of the technical specification for the selected paint. The first step is leveling the surface. To avoid problems with painting, the facade is cleaned of dust and dirt (water or soap solution will do). After complete drying, the facade is primed; this helps get rid of defects - small irregularities, scratches and damage. Areas with mold are given special attention. Such fragments are cleaned with a stiff brush and treated with an antiseptic, and after drying they are also leveled with a primer.

Tinting

To paint the facade, you can use ready-made paints from the main color palette. But often a special, rare shade is needed. It is selected from the company’s catalog, which contains thousands of shades, and is obtained by tinting.

Tinting, the process of obtaining paint of the chosen shade, is most conveniently carried out in a store, using Tikkurila tinting equipment. The program calculates the proportions of the main paint and additional pigment (one or a combination of several). The paints are mixed until completely homogeneous, and the customer receives exactly the desired shade.

The tinting operation can be carried out manually, for which the desired color is first obtained on a sample of the base paint, gradually adding pigments to it and fixing the proportions. If the color that needs to be obtained includes a combination of several pigments, manual mixing cannot always obtain the desired shade and then accurately reproduce it.

Painting process

Painting should be carried out in accordance with the instructions placed on the paint can; painting includes the following steps:

  • Selecting a tool. This could be a brush or roller. If there is a large amount of work to be done, it is beneficial to use a spray gun. Don't forget about safety glasses and gloves.
  • The paint is applied using the methods specified in the specification. Before starting work, part of the composition is poured into a smaller container; this will help keep the rest of the paint from drying out.
  • Painting is carried out carefully and carefully. Each wall is painted without long breaks; otherwise streaks will appear on the surface.
  • The paint is spread in a thin layer. In this case, the brush or roller is moved with vertical, horizontal and diagonal movements alternately.
  • Re-painting is carried out after the first layer has completely dried.
  • During breaks, the tools are wrapped in plastic so that the paint does not dry out.

The determining conditions for long-term and flawless service of the facade are careful preparation of the surface and the choice of appropriate paint. The Tikkurila company offers products for each stage of repair work - not only a variety of protective and decorative coatings, but also preparations for painting and priming of facade walls, which improve the adhesion of the finishing layer.
