Since I have already mastered this technique and even decorated several glasses on my kitchen set, I dare to share with you my knowledge about the paints with which you can paint.

Painting on glass with acrylic paints

Paint selection

In any store, the seller will advise you which paints are best to use for painting on glass. But before that, he will definitely ask how you will use the paint. There are several options due to which the type of paint will differ:

  • Perhaps you are looking for paints for decoration or professional painting
  • Maybe you want to give a master class or, on the contrary, practice
  • There is also the option of painting with children

Glass painting Important! Do not doubt that this is a very important point, since the cost of the material also depends on these factors. Manufacturers produce not only expensive paints that professionals use, but also budget kits with which you can learn how to make patterns and certain compositions.

  • In addition, what is important is what effect you want to get - it can be a matte or glossy finish, or vice versa transparency
  • What do you want to draw your design on? – You can draw on glass both on plates and on a bottle or window

The fact is, there are some types of paints that cannot be applied to objects that come into contact with food or detergents.

Decor with Christmas tree toys

You can’t limit yourself to just snowflakes and garlands. The windows can be decorated with toys intended for the Christmas tree.

In addition to traditional balls, gingerbread cookies baked in the form of a symbol of the coming year, cinnamon sticks, circles of oven-dried citrus fruits, pine cones, and knitted figures are suitable.

Toys can be hung on a beautiful ribbon at one length, or each will have its own segment.

If you have stocked up on round foam plastic blanks, make a New Year's decoration out of them:

  • cut flowers from beautiful fabric or paper;
  • place the ball in the center;
  • use pins to attach flowers to the balls;
  • tie the balls and hang them.

If you have a regular transparent ball, fill it with tinsel and it will sparkle from the inside. Either fill the toy with plain or multi-colored sand. In any case, you will get beautiful windows for the New Year.

Acrylic paints

Acrylic paint contains natural or synthetic pigments, binders and water. Both acrylic and stained glass paints are used for painting on glass. Let's look at the advantages of topcoat paints:

  1. Are opaque
  2. They tend to adhere well and are lightfast
  3. They have a wide palette of shades, while the colors are bright and you can add sparkles to them
  4. Have good abrasion resistance
  5. Do not slide off the glass when painting
  6. Professional paint has no odor
  7. Can be packaged in tubes, jars or cans

Window sill decoration

If you have decided how to decorate your windows for the New Year, don’t forget about the window sill. Lucky are those who have it spacious and wide. You can create a whole New Year's story or fairy tale on it. Fir branches, silver-decorated cones, various figurines, and candles will be used here.

Create an urban or rural landscape of multi-story and one-story houses on cardboard. Cut out the stencil and window openings along the contour. Bend its bottom and secure it to the stand with double-sided tape. Decorate with dry snow.

Place a garland with lights in the background, you get the illusion of a small evening town with lights in the windows.

In the same way, you can create part of a fairytale forest, a family of snowmen, or a reindeer team. Use Christmas wreaths, compositions of pine branches and cones, wooden and textile toys.

Fixing the applied pattern

When the drawings on the glass are finished, they should be fixed, and I will now tell you how this can be done. It is best to fix a glass masterpiece using acrylic varnish, as it has several features:

  1. It is non-flammable and has no pungent odor. That is why it is very easy to work with such varnishes indoors.
  2. Application is quite easy, so even a beginner will not have any problems with this process.
  3. Has the property of drying quickly, and the material can be diluted with water
  4. Does not affect the original color of the paint used
  5. Due to its low cost and efficiency, one can will last you for a long time

Self-painting on glass with acrylic paints
The pricing policy for acrylic varnish is quite good; in specialized stores you can purchase the product at a price of about 150 rubles per 50 ml.

Decoration with vytynankas

This term appeared not so long ago, but everyone knows it well. Vytynanka is an openwork stencil. A snowflake cut out of paper, for example, is a vytynanka. Figures are also cut out of cardboard, foil, plastic, and thin metal-plastic.

To cut from dense material, use a small knife with a short oblique blade. It is better to cut stencils on a piece of plywood or a glass cutting board.

You can cut out a deer, a snowman, a Christmas tree toy, entire compositions in the form of a night city, a forest area, whatever your imagination and taste dictates. Cover the finished figure with glue, sprinkle with dry glitter or snow, and apply paint or varnish. The product will look stylish and creative.

Tips for Newbies

If you are new to painting, then before you paint on glass you should remember a few tips. They will simplify the process of drawing a picture on glass with your own hands.

Painting on glass with acrylic paints

To begin with, choose transparent dishes if you are not drawing on window glass or fittings. You can choose snow-white ceramics as a background - this way nothing will distract you from applying the design. In addition, try to first draw a sketch on a sheet of paper - in the future, your hand will remember similar outlines and drawing will become much easier.

Garland in window decor

A wonderful design option is to decorate with a garland of lights. Joyful twinkling creates an additional festive atmosphere. For the window you can use:

  • LED network;
  • light rain;
  • light thread.

The net can be purchased in the required size to fit your window or balcony door. It looks beautiful and elegant, with a wide range of colors to choose from.

Light rain is hanging strings of lights from the horizontal cord of a garland. The threads can be short, for the window opening, and for the entire length of the curtains, from the cornice to the floor.

Threads with lights can be with or without attachments in the form of various figures. The shorter the thread, the easier it is to decorate the window. The longer the holiday illumination, the more options for experimentation.

Before fastening, make sure that the decoration is in good condition, that the wires are working properly, and that all modes are working. The outlet should be nearby. If an extension cord is used, make sure it is located safely for children and pets.

For hanging, special hooks or regular tape are suitable, traces of which can be easily removed later. In any case, the fastening option needs to be thought out in advance.

Choosing brushes

You can paint on glass with painting brushes; they are small in size and you can easily create complex patterns. If you decide to decorate a large area, then you should also stock up on construction brushes. Drawings are applied using brushes with a rounded end, but a flat brush should be used to secure your artwork.

Brushes for painting on glass

The choice of brush material is up to you. You can use both natural and synthetic ones. However, it should be remembered that natural bristles are used for water-based paints and varnishes. Don't forget about buying a palette knife. This is the name given to a special metal spatula that is used to mix different colors of paint.

In addition to all of the above, you can view a huge number of master classes that will help you decide on the technique of painting and even drawings. Experienced craftsmen will tell you how to properly hold a brush and apply a pattern to glass. In a professional store, sales consultants will help you choose the necessary paints and brushes - all you need is a desire to create and create interesting patterns with your own hands. Experience does not come immediately, so after the first failure you should not give up what you started. Continue to try painting with acrylic paints and involve your family in this process, because only such moments spent together are remembered for a lifetime.

Paper window decorations

Paper figures add lightness to the interior. The level of illumination and the area of the home determine the shape, size and shades of paper toys: garlands, snowflakes, animals, etc. Thick paper is used to create large crafts and thin paper for small elements. Thick paper:

  • white – glossy or matte;
  • mulberry – translucent;
  • craft - imitation of a “gingerbread house”;
  • corduroy, with a thin pile on the surface, which gives texture to the New Year's figures.

Thin types of paper include:

  • rice;
  • Italian corrugated;
  • ecolux.

Ready-made decorative elements are combined, created a harmonious composition and secured.

Caring for painted glass objects

Decorative glass objects painted with paints cannot be used in everyday life without following certain rules. Of course, you can coat the products with varnish, which will make them more durable and protect them from scratches (many paints are sold complete with a suitable varnish), but even in this case, adhere to the following care rules:

  • Do not place painted glassware in the dishwasher or use detergent.
  • Do not soak for a long time, do not wipe with force.
  • The best way to clean a painted glass piece is to gently wipe it with a soft cloth dampened in warm water.
  • To improve the water and light resistance of the product, apply a thin layer of varnish to the painted surface with a wide brush immediately after the paint has dried.

Decor with candles

And of course candles. They will bring romance into the mood. Multi-colored and white, small and large, simple and intricate shapes. Looks good if:

  • place them separately or in the center of a Christmas wreath on the windowsill;
  • complement the finished composition;
  • attach to a hanging candlestick;
  • place in a vase or a beautiful glass, after pouring colored beads and stones into it;
  • Pour water into a glass and place a lit flat candle on the liquid. It will be floating.

Decorate the wax surface with coffee beans, seeds, dry leaves or beautiful shells. Give them shine with rhinestones, beads, pearls. Or wrap with ribbon, braid or jute thread and insert cinnamon sticks between the wraps.

A lantern with a candle instead of a light bulb will add coziness to the interior. Hang it from the cornice or place it next to the New Year's composition on the windowsill. In any case, candles will only complement the general pre-holiday anticipation.

There are many different materials and methods for decorating the windows of your home. Whatever you choose, the main thing is the pre-New Year mood, which will certainly last after the holiday, because those you love will be next to you.

Double stroke technique

Half the brush should be dipped in one color, and the other half in the second. Using one brush, two colors are applied simultaneously. The optimal combination is brown and white. If you brush across the surface of the vase, the brushstroke will be two-color. In this case, the transition of colors will be smooth. You need to put paint on a brush and apply the design to the paper first. In this case, the brush will lie horizontally in relation to the image. Next you need to draw a straight line. When the lines are drawn, you will get an unusual weaving pattern. The lines must be drawn alternately - vertical, then horizontal. All lines are drawn in a checkerboard pattern. When you make test strokes, you will be able to understand what thickness of paint will be optimal. You will also understand how well the paint will adhere and whether you will like the drawing in the end. If everything is good, then you can go to work.
