DIY block house: home production technology

A room in which wood is present looks noble, unusual and very cozy. For a long time, such finishing was associated with labor intensity. Today it is possible to cover the premises with a block house. This is a modern finishing material made of wood. Finishing with this material gives the room a beautiful appearance and allows you to create a healthy microclimate.

You can carry out installation work yourself, even without having construction skills.

Features of the material

Block house is a wooden material intended for interior and exterior use. It is in many ways similar to lining - it has a natural composition and the same fixation system. But it is larger in size and imitates a log or timber.

The interior decoration of the house with a block house adds respectability and special tranquility to the room. The variety of types, textures and shades allows you to implement even the most daring and original design solutions, achieving originality and uniqueness of the interior.

Advantages of the material

The block house has many advantages:

  • The material is safe for human health. Since such panels are made from natural wood, they are completely environmentally friendly.
  • Due to its light weight, the material does not create a large load on the ceiling or walls.
  • The panels provide good sound insulation.
  • The block house has good thermal insulation properties. Of course, it does not provide absolute heat retention, but it minimizes the influence of a cold surface on the microclimate.
  • The interior decoration of a block house can be done independently. The panels are easily attached to the surface. Even a beginner can handle the job.
  • The material, made from valuable wood species, fills the room with an aroma that has a beneficial effect on human health and creates a special mood.
  • Panels can be used not only for finishing the entire room. They combine well with other materials; they can be used to decorate just one wall or even part of it.
  • The block house allows you to hide small defects on the walls, as it is attached to a frame.

Tecos

Canadian manufacturer Tecos produces high-quality vinyl flooring imitation block houses. Thanks to the quality characteristics of the products, the company has its consumers in Russia.

Tekos panels have distinctive features:

  • the material is resistant to low temperatures;
  • the panels are durable and resistant to weather conditions;
  • has increased moisture resistance.

The coating has good thermal insulation properties, as well as a variety of colors.

According to the technical characteristics of Tecos vinyl panels, they are determined by the following indicators:

  • length - 3780 mm;

  • flammability - G2 class.

The panels are laid by the manufacturer in 18 pieces per package.

Types of block house

The modern construction market offers buyers a large number of types of this finishing material, which differ in some characteristics and parameters. Depending on its quality, there are several types of block houses:

  • Extra class. There are no significant defects in such panels. The material is of excellent quality and a fairly high price.
  • Category "A". The material is of good quality. It is acceptable to have a small number of resin pockets, knots and wormholes (traces from pests) no more than 3 mm wide.
  • Category "B". Panels may have more significant defects. But these flaws do not spoil the decorative and performance characteristics of the material.
  • Category "C". The cost of products of this class is quite low, but the quality is not very good. The appearance of the material is unpresentable and requires additional processing. A block house of this class is suitable for finishing the walls of utility rooms.

Wood species

Its performance characteristics depend on the type of wood from which the material is made.

  • Pine. Most often, such a surface contains traces of knots, creating an interesting pattern. The panels can be used for both interior decoration of rooms and exterior decoration of buildings.
  • Siberian fir. The material differs from other coniferous trees in its light weight. This wood contains some resin, so it is susceptible to rotting and requires additional treatment with an antiseptic.
  • Spruce. The material has a beautiful texture and a light shade.
  • Cedar. Wood has a pleasant aroma and has a beneficial effect on the microclimate of the room.
  • Larch. This is a highly durable material with a high resin content that protects it from rotting.
  • Alder. Durable and moisture-resistant wood, the performance characteristics of such panels only become better over time.
  • Linden. The coating made of this wood is practically not exposed to high temperatures. Linden block houses are most often used for cladding baths.
  • Birch. Wood has a homogeneous structure, so it is easy to process with paints and varnishes. Birch panels allow you to create an imitation of almost any type of wood.
  • Aspen. The material is practically not subject to rotting, tolerates moisture well and has high strength.

How to choose?

When choosing a suitable material, several parameters must be taken into account:

  • purpose of the room;
  • the area of this room;
  • type of surface being finished;
  • interior design style.

For small rooms it is better to choose panels with a minimum thickness. Such material will not “take up” a lot of space. In large rooms, a wide block house can be used for interior decoration. This will simulate a rounded beam.

Where to use

The panels look good in interior styles such as rustic, shabby chic, country, and Provence. The material goes well with other materials, for example, with natural stone, decorative plaster or paint coatings. You can finish only part of the wall, creating an unusual and original interior solution.

The panels are easily and quickly mounted on any base. Most often they are used for cladding concrete, metal, brick or wooden surfaces.

The purpose of the room where the interior decoration of the block house will be performed affects the choice of wood from which the panels are made. If the room has high humidity, it is better to use moisture-resistant wood. When purchasing a block house, you should also pay attention to its quality. The surface of the panels must be free of damage or significant defects.

Carrying out interior decoration with a block house is not at all difficult. You can easily do this work yourself. The base does not require leveling or thorough cleaning during installation, since the panels are attached to the sheathing.

Before starting the interior decoration of the block house (photos of the final work are attached), it is recommended to treat the planks inside and out with any antiseptic agent and dry them.

Independent production

To make a block house at home, a slab is used. It is also cut from edged boards, which allows you to significantly save on the purchase of material. Finishing is done with special cutters that have a diameter of 35 and 50 millimeters.

Sequencing

All actions in the block house production process must be consistent:

  • An edged board or slab is purchased. When using an edged board, one of the edges is rounded, but the slab is not.
  • The front surface of the workpiece is polished with high quality. The back side does not require treatment as it will be directed towards the wall.
  • Folding is carried out using a manual router or machine. A tenon is made on one side, and a groove is made on the other. Homemade tongue and groove from a master requires certain skills.

If possible, a four-sided milling machine is used to produce a block house.

The finishing machine processes coniferous and deciduous trees. For the production of a block house, it is recommended to use wood that belongs to classes A and B. This type of raw material does not have cracks or chips, which makes it possible to produce high-quality finishing.

You need to cut blanks of the appropriate size from the beams. They are dried in a special chamber to a certain humidity level. The dried workpiece is processed with a block house cutter until the finished product is obtained. Tenons and grooves are cut, and the workpieces are cut to length. After the material is produced, it is sorted and packaged with shrink film.

The price of the product depends on the quality of its processing. If the board is sanded on both sides, then its cost is more than on one side.

Working on equipment

If the need arises, we can independently manufacture a machine for processing wood. It consists of a framework based on a frame and a table. For this, elements made of wood or metal are used.

A hole is made in the middle, through which the installation of special shafts is ensured. In order to set them in motion, an electric motor is installed. At home, the engine is used from an old washing machine or refrigerator. To produce a metal installation, it is recommended to use an electric drill, welding machine, grinder, and grinder.

In order for the workshop to function fully, it is better to purchase installations. There are a large number of manufacturing plants that offer innovative equipment for the production of block houses. The production line is selected according to the planned sales volume.

At the initial stage of production, it is recommended to use low-power single-sided milling machines. Their approximate price is 340 thousand rubles. But this cost will pay off in a month. When choosing a machine, it is recommended to ensure that it has the main component - a cutter for finishing production. The type of finish obtained depends on the design of the cutter. If you do not have the required number of cutters, it is recommended to purchase them in addition.

Surface preparation

To protect the base from the adverse effects of microorganisms and external factors, it must be thoroughly cleaned of contamination and treated with a special antiseptic impregnation. If there are significant unevenness on the surface, the wall must be leveled with putty or plaster.

The main preparatory stage before interior finishing of the walls with a block house is the installation of the frame. To make the sheathing, use a beam 3-4 cm thick. The slats are attached vertically to the surface with an interval of 50-65 cm with dowels and screws.

First, the slats are attached in opposite corners of the room.

When attaching a beam in the corners, its upper part is first fixed. To determine the correct position of the lower part, use a building level.

A rope is pulled between the installed slats, then the remaining structural elements are fastened. Installation begins from the middle of the wall. It is more convenient to start fastening the beam from the top. After the installation of the structure is completed, facing work begins.

Installation

It is recommended to start attaching the panels from the bottom of the wall and move gradually towards the ceiling. You need to leave a small gap (no more than one centimeter) between the first plank and the floor to ensure good ventilation. This material is attached to the frame with self-tapping screws. They are screwed into the groove with a screwdriver at an angle of 30°-45°. As an alternative fastener, special clamps can be used. The advantage of this type of fastening is that it will not be visible behind the panels. Each subsequent panel is placed with a tenon in the groove of the previous plank, then tapped for better fixation with a carpenter's hammer.

If the interior decoration of a block house (photos provided in the article) is carried out in a room with high humidity, it is advisable to leave a gap of 2-3 mm between the panels. This will allow you to avoid deformation of the material in the future. You should not mount the panels close to the ceiling; it is advisable to leave a small gap (about 5 mm). The joints of the planks are masked with decorative corners.

When making a block house with your own hands for subsequent sale, everyone is interested in the possible profit.

This is influenced by a number of factors. Before opening such a business, make sure it is profitable in your region.

In wholesale trade, 1 cubic meter of lumber costs 13-15 thousand rubles. To purchase a cubic meter of raw materials for production, you need to spend 5-7 thousand rubles. As a result, the revenue will be 6-7 thousand rubles.

By producing 10 cubic meters per day, you can earn about 4 million per month.

But then take into account a number of additional expenses, rent of premises, loan for the machine, etc.

If you build a business strategy correctly, then all investments can pay off in a few months. This is possible if you start with small home production. Launching a large production line right away is risky.

The final stage of work

After the block house is securely attached to the sheathing, it is advisable to level the surface using a grinding machine. To improve the performance characteristics of wood, it also needs to be treated with fire-fighting and antiseptic impregnation.

The gaps formed during installation between the panels and the floor (ceiling) must be closed with skirting boards. To make the facing coating more aesthetically pleasing, it can be treated with varnish, paint or stain. Various water-dispersion compositions are used for painting. They allow you to preserve the natural structure of the tree. Application of paint and varnish composition is the same as similar processing of any other wooden structures.

To protect the surface and decorate the material, a natural wax coating is also used. This surface is not very demanding to maintain. You just need to periodically remove dust from it using a vacuum cleaner or a dry cloth.

Finish care

  • After finishing the finishing work, the wooden block house must be re-treated with varnish or wax, primer or stain. This way you will give the desired shade and at the same time emphasize the texture of the wood. The paint coating on the panels will last no more than 5 years, after which it must be renewed.
  • Treated panels can be washed with a sponge or vacuumed during use. It is not recommended to use detergents and abrasives.
  • A block house made of metal and vinyl is brought into proper appearance with the help of various additional elements.
