Wall sandwich panels: types and characteristics, materials used

Not everyone has the desire or ability to delay construction for several years. Moreover, there is no need for a long time. There are several rapid construction technologies. The leaders are frames. With a minimum of costs, we very quickly get a full-fledged building. But the frame is only half the battle. We still need to choose the casing. One option is multilayer materials. They are called sandwich panels. The dimensions of sandwich panels make it possible to further reduce construction time, because we immediately get a building with exterior and sometimes interior decoration.

Main characteristics

Sandwich panels are mainly used for the construction of low-rise buildings for commercial, industrial or other purposes. Due to its “official” appearance, it is rarely used in the construction of residential buildings. Most often this finishing material is intended for walls. Installation is carried out by attaching it to a metal frame with self-tapping screws.

One of the areas of application of sandwich panels is the construction of industrial buildings Source 2gis.ru

There are several types of sandwich panels.

  1. External wall sandwich panels . Made from metal sheets and insulation. They are mainly used for the construction of partitions, cladding the walls of a building, and for insulation purposes.
  2. Roofing sandwich panels . Used to cover roofs. Long-term use. They are made of fireproof materials, retain heat for a long time and isolate loud street sounds. Fastening is carried out using a unique technology that protects against deformation in the warm season.
  3. Three-layer sandwich panels . Convenient to use. Installation of such plates occurs quickly, without any difficulties. There is no need to strengthen the supporting structures of the building. Manufactured from galvanized steel and can be coated with polymer compounds. Currently, this type of sandwich panels is used most often. This is the most modern building material. Moreover, the use of three-layer sandwich panels significantly reduces financial costs.
  4. Corner sandwich panels . Used to create a complete image of a building. Can be semicircular or angular. Made from heat-resistant, fireproof material.

Sandwich panels are varied in color, which is determined by international color standards. Colors must be chosen in accordance with climatic conditions. It is necessary to take into account the light reflection and light absorption properties of the material. The service life of the building directly depends on this.

Specific installation nuances

It should be remembered that to form a connection that provides strength and insulation along the joint line, you need to use only the methods specified by the manufacturer.

Most panels are latched or doweled together. The junction points with the metal frame are covered with damper tape.

For fastening to the rafter system, self-tapping screws are produced, the selection of which for construction and cladding takes into account the base material. The roof of the panels is fixed to the frame of the building through a mauerlat installed around the perimeter or a wooden block replacing it along a metal frame.

Fastening elements are selected not only taking into account the upcoming application and the type of base to which they are to be attached. The thickness of the panel must be taken into account, which is also taken into account when choosing shaped parts and additional elements for arranging wall cladding and constructing insulated attic roofs.

Types of insulation for exterior sandwich wall panels

First of all, external wall sandwich panels are usually distinguished by the internal composition of the insulation:

  • Polyurethane foam . The material is practically not subject to corrosion and deformation. Resistant to thermal and mechanical influences. It is a clean environmental product. Quite durable. The cost of such sandwich panels is quite high. However, the material is not safe in case of fire.
  • Expanded polystyrene . Has high heat and sound insulation. Not exposed to thermal influences. Environmentally friendly and lightweight material. Retains its shape during prolonged contact with water. An advantage is the possibility of installing sandwich panels in the cold season. The main disadvantage of the filler was such characteristics as fire hazard, color change when exposed to sunlight, changes shape at temperatures above 1000⁰C, and causes various allergic reactions.

  • Polyisocyanurate foam filler . The leading material among sandwich panels. Environmentally friendly, not subject to corrosion and deformation. Has minimal thermal conductivity and elasticity. Durable, fire resistant and durable. Among the disadvantages of the building material, one can highlight only its high cost.
  • Mineral wool filler . The advantages of insulation are non-flammability and good sound insulation. The material is environmentally friendly. Does not undergo deformation when exposed to heat. When in contact with metal, the possibility of corrosion is reduced to zero. It is easy to use and install. Sandwich panels filled with mineral wool also have a number of negative characteristics. First of all, it is harmful. When installing such sandwich panels, you must use a respirator. Over time, the material loses its heat-insulating properties. Working with sandwich panels is only possible in good weather, since mineral wool is a non-moisture resistant material. In contact with water, the sandwich panel may delaminate. A fairly large weight requires additional strengthening of the supporting structures.

Mineral wool is an environmentally friendly material, but over time it loses its properties Source s-paneli.ru

  • Fiberglass insulation . The composition of the filler is similar to mineral wool, but differs significantly in properties. The advantages of this material are non-flammability, fairly high heat and sound insulation. The product is light, elastic, durable and environmentally friendly. The disadvantages include high absorption of liquids, inability to use at high temperatures, and deformation due to sudden changes in temperature. If inhaled, it can cause severe allergic reactions.
  • Combined type fillers . The filler contains a mixture of various building materials. Basically, these are mineral wool and polystyrene foam.

Types of external cladding of sandwich panels

Just like the internal filler of sandwich panels, their outer layers are made of various materials.

  1. Paper . Aluminum foil or polyethylene becomes an addition to paper. You can find panels in which the paper is impregnated with bitumen. Sandwich panels with such cladding have a relatively low price and are economical to use.
  2. Metal . Mostly thin stainless or galvanized steel is used. The metal is covered with aluminum foil, cloth or paper. This serves as a protective function for the upper layers of the sandwich panel.
  3. PVC . There is a layer of insulation between the PVC sheets. Such sandwich panels are used for the construction of partitions, finishing of door and window openings.
  4. Drywall, fiberboard, plywood . The product is sheathed on both sides with different materials. Used in the construction of office partitions. Convenient to hide wiring if necessary.

Polymer coating

Sandwich panels also differ in the type of polymer coating. Let's look at a few main types.

  1. Pural (pural) . The material is resistant to sudden temperature changes and does not react when exposed to ultraviolet rays. Mainly used for external cladding of buildings.
  2. PE (polyester).
  3. Polydifluorionad . The coating is resistant to aggressive chemical compounds, changes in air temperature and external mechanical influences.
  4. Plastisol . Sandwich panels with such a coating are used not only for exterior decoration of buildings, but also for interior decoration.

Regarding exterior decoration

The question is very relevant. I can only say one thing. Finishing, both external and internal, is a completely separate topic. To build 4 walls with a roof is the simplest and cheapest thing. Here (in the Moscow region), as a rule, a house is erected in just a couple of weeks. Well, maybe in a month, and then three to five years in the finishing stage. Moreover, all these years workers have lived in the house, who, as a rule, are far from local, and when I look at them, I even feel envious. People live in a luxurious house, they don’t pay for their accommodation, and they even receive a salary, they have already assimilated, they have become their own, and it is completely unclear what they are doing and why finishing the house takes so much time and who in general, except the builders, benefits from this situation. Maybe there is some kind of fashionable wave under the motto “settle a guest in your home and support him,” but I don’t know?

But to be serious, if you want to build a house for permanent residence and if you don’t have anywhere to put the money, then you need to think about the finishing in advance. This is a matter of personal experience. If you don't have one, getting one can be very expensive.

Regarding the question - would it be cheaper to build a house from foam blocks - I don’t know. To answer, you need to draw up an estimate. After compiling it, there may be surprises. Conditionally, it may turn out that a log house brought to Kazakhstan from Vologda will be cheaper than a house made of sandwich panels. And all because in a good log house you can save on finishing. But this is a conditional example, of course.

2.5. Thermal conductivity

The calculation of thermal insulation characteristics is regulated by the following documents:

— SNiP 02/23/2003 “Thermal protection of buildings”,

— SNiP 23-01-99 “Building climatology”,

— STO 00044807-001-2006 “Thermal protection properties of building envelopes”,

— SNiP II-3-79 “Construction heating engineering”,

— SP 23-101-2000 “Design of thermal protection of buildings.”

Houses made of turnkey sandwich panels: prices

The construction of frame houses is gaining popularity. If necessary, you can order a turnkey house. Let's consider what advantages such residential buildings have:

  • high construction speed;
  • good thermal insulation. The materials from which sandwich boards are made retain heat inside the building and do not allow cold to enter;
  • fire resistance;
  • sound insulation;

Two-story house built from sandwich slabs

  • environmental friendliness;
  • durability (the service life of such a house can reach 80 years).

Frame houses are also called Canadian, since they are built using the same technologies as in Canada. The foundation for such a house is made on screw piles. Let's consider the main advantages of such a foundation:

  • high speed of execution (no more than 2 days);
  • long service life (up to 100 years);
  • Possibility of installation on any type of soil;
  • Possibility of installation at any time of the year;
  • high environmental performance;
  • savings (up to 50%).

A frame house made of sandwich panels with an area of 64 m² will cost approximately 820 thousand rubles, and a house of 130 m² will cost 1.2 million rubles. The table below shows approximate prices for installing sandwich panels per 1 m² of frame and roof (excluding materials), as well as the cost of organizing the foundation:

Type of workPrice, rub./m²
Foundation organizationfrom 800
Construction of a box at home320–700
Roof installation370–750

To select the appropriate option, it is recommended to study photos of houses made of sandwich panels on the Internet. Prices for such cottages are also indicated on the websites of construction companies.

Positive reviews about prefabricated houses

Often, near large cities, cottage communities built using the block method grow up in just a few months. Such buildings have positive reviews of prefabricated houses among developers and consumers. This type of construction is suitable for investors due to the cost-effectiveness and speed of construction. Residents are satisfied with the following properties:

  • excellent thermal protection;
  • non-flammability;
  • aesthetics;
  • ergonomics;
  • good sound insulation, etc.

Garages made of sandwich panels: prices and design features

To install a garage frame structure, special sandwich panels are used - rigid ribbed ones. From a financial point of view, organizing such a garage is more profitable than constructing a building made of brick or concrete. Such panels can also be used to make a hangar for economic or industrial purposes. The price of a hangar made of sandwich panels depends on the dimensions of the building.

Let's consider the main structural elements that are used when installing a garage structure:

  • frame made of profile square pipes with a cross section of 60x60 mm;
  • sandwich panels.

3D project of a garage made from sandwich sheets

For such a garage structure, it is not necessary to install a permanent foundation, since the sandwich elements are lightweight. It is enough to organize a grillage tape. The recommended width of this tape is 20 cm.

Note! The cost of organizing a turnkey garage ranges from 200 thousand to 1.5 million rubles. Turnkey garage completion time is 3-4 days.

The garage structure made of ribbed sandwich panels is compact and versatile. If necessary, the structure can be disassembled and moved to another place, which is very convenient.

On the Internet you can study the opinions of developers about houses made of sandwich panels. Reviews of garages made from this material are also present on construction forums.
