Bathroom tiles 2022: TOP 200 best designs in the photo

Fashionable bathroom tiles 2022: trends

For a modern person, a bathroom is more than a place where you can just wash yourself. This is the part of the house where a busy person can finally retire, relax and collect his thoughts. That's why it's so important to make your bathroom beautiful and cozy.

The fashion trend for 2022 will be hard and neutral surfaces. But playing with tackles is also acceptable. In addition, you can combine not only shades, but also the texture of the material. Thanks to this technique, you can divide the space into zones, beautifully highlighting an expensive bathroom or sink

Marble tiles are another fashion trend for 2022. This material not only looks aesthetically pleasing, but is also pleasant to the touch. Therefore, marble tiles are ideal for bathroom flooring.

But it should be remembered that for safety it must be produced using special non-slip technology.

Small tile

Small format tiles are once again gaining popularity among consumers, and designers are ensuring that small format tiles will become a real trend in 2022.

In regular homes, bathrooms tend to be small and cramped. In addition, they try to collect all the necessary equipment. How to create an original and interesting design in such a room? Using a small map will help solve this problem.

Small format samples will fit perfectly into all hard-to-reach and narrow places in a small room.

As a finishing material, it is better to choose tiles in neutral shades, such as snow-white, cream and beige. It can be combined with a golden hue. This finish will look incredibly elegant, new and fresh.

New – concrete look tiles

After modern interior styles, such as loft, hi-tech, minimalism and even art deco, came into fashion, the need arose to imitate specific details and designs.

The fact is that laying natural concrete is not only very difficult, but also very dusty. Therefore, using ceramic tiles 2022, which imitate real concrete, is an excellent option, the optimal and affordable way out.

On a note! Pseudo-concrete (in the form of tiles) will not only help to avoid the above-mentioned inconveniences associated with laying the material, but will also provide reliability, ease of maintenance and a modern appearance of the surface.

Tiles are a durable material that can withstand heavy loads, do not allow moisture and steam to pass through, and are non-flammable. The most pleasant advantage of the tile is the ease of removing dirt from its surface. Tiled walls and floors can be washed with any chemical that no other finishing material can boast of, and if you take into account the above tips, the kitchen or bathroom will not only be cozy and practical, but also elegant.

Natural theme

Designers propose to take into account the marine theme in bathroom design in 2022. What material to choose for finishing? Obviously tiles. Tile is the most popular finishing material, which has positive characteristics in terms of strength and durability. Today, tiles can be not only glossy or matte, they can have different textures and any color.

It is recommended to use reflective tiles such as glossy or mirror tiles. This will help visually expand the room.

Again, don't forget about the contrasting fashion trend. To do this, you should combine glossy and smooth surfaces with textured, rough and embossed ones. All this looks as original and elegant as possible and is sure to attract the attention of guests.

A nautical-style bathroom embodies natural style. But don't get too carried away! Otherwise, the bathroom will look banal and too deliberate. There is no need to collect everything in one pile: dolphins, mermaids, shells and jellyfish.

It should be remembered that monotony is a fashion trend. This means that the base color of the tiles should be the same and all other elements should be combined with a matching nautical color scheme. For example, the walls in the bathroom can be aqua, which is especially true in 2022, and small details such as:

  • container for toothbrushes;
  • dishwashing liquid;
  • holder for toilet paper and other items.

All of them can be made in the form of large shells of unusual shape, lined with pebbles, and so on. Such details will only play the role of necessary accents and qualitatively emphasize the design in a marine style.

Hexagonal tiles are fashionable

The most fashionable shape of ceramic tiles today is the hexagon. The popularity of tiles with regular hexagonal shapes will finally break all records in 2022. The shapes and sizes of these tiles can expand their traditional range within a single collection.

It is worth noting that this is a novelty, nothing more than a return to the historical traditions of the eighteenth century, while this form, on the contrary, was very common. Ultra-fashionable, by the way, is the use of large hexagonal porcelain tiles on the floor, especially if the interior is designed in a vintage style.

Another original novelty is puzzles made from ceramic tiles of various geometric shapes and without seams, but in this option it is important to choose the right colors.

The use of a base (gray or white) in this option is almost mandatory, then delicate shades of blue, yellow, green, graphite and golden or brown are added. By the way, today the color of dusty rose is in fashion; gray has no equal.

The tile is not just big, but very big

Not so long ago, hobbyists found large tiles only where materials were offered for finishing industrial premises or public places.

Today the situation has completely changed: tiles are very fashionable, not only large, but also very large, even huge. Product manufacturers create entire original collections dedicated to large format ceramic tiles.

The main feature of large ceramic tiles is their distinctive ability to give coated surfaces not only a more formal, but also a more refined look. However, a large format always requires additional space.

For example, in a bathroom or small kitchen, in a hallway, such tiles will have to be cut and carefully adjusted many times, which will ruin the original idea.

Large ceramic tiles in the interior have not left fashion catalogs for several years in a row, so now they have their own decor and quality standards.

Current decor

Manufacturers of finishing materials are always aware of all the latest trends. Therefore, they strive to produce their products focusing on current design. In 2022, several style trends will become the most popular:

  • cozy Provencal style;
  • natural country style;
  • strict minimalism;
  • neat loft style.

All of these styles use a variety of materials and different textures.

But you shouldn’t give up on such a practical material as ceramic tiles. Monochrome mosaic is still in trend.

Current furniture includes:

  • Mediterranean motifs;
  • various geometric shapes;
  • abstraction;
  • reliefs.

But the hottest trend will be single-color double firing.

This technology allows you to make the color of the material more saturated.

The most fashionable styles and interiors of the bathroom

The tiles match all styles of bathroom furniture. Let's take a look at the hottest bathroom tile trends in 2022.

High tech

The style involves laying tiles at different angles. The material should have a glossy surface, an interesting shape, preferably natural stone. The priority is white, black, asphalt color.

Minimalism

To create this style, it is inappropriate to use any pattern, relief or geometry. Here the main role is played by uniformity and uniformity of both texture and shade.

The best option would be to use classic ceramic tiles. It can be glossy or matte.

But the main requirement of the minimalist style is a flat surface without a hint of furniture.

Oriental

The oriental style interior is calm and peaceful. Natural stone is used to decorate walls and floors. The tiles are selected in shades of beige and brown. Simplicity and minimalism are the main features of the interior design.

Classic

The classic style of bathroom interior will always be popular. Marble tiles are used for its decoration. Classic interior finishing materials are high quality and expensive. A good color combination is choosing calm, soothing shades that will go well with furniture made from expensive woods.

Scandinavian

The Scandinavian interior design trend, which has recently gained popularity, involves the use of harmonious shades of light colors. Beautifully decorated ceramic tiles go well with wooden elements.

Sharp

The answer to the question of what color to use in the bathroom depends not only on personal wishes, but also on the size of the bathroom, the chosen style, what material and surface are used and general recommendations for mixing colors. It’s easier to choose tiles for the bathroom if you have a clear design project of the room. All this will allow you not to make a mistake with the selection of colors. After renovation, the transformed bathroom will decorate the interior of your apartment.

Tiles for a large bathroom

In a spacious room there is no reason to limit ideas when renovating, there is no need to save space excessively. A traditional plumbing set can be supplemented with the following items: a toilet, a second sink, a bidet, furniture for storing plumbing fixtures, a shower cabin, etc.

1. Interior in neutral colors

2. Color accent

3. Brilliant finish palette

Bathroom tiles with shower

When choosing a tile design for a bathroom with a shower, it is recommended to pay attention to the combined interior. Areas with high humidity are best finished with ceramics (near the shower stall and sink). The rest of the room can be decorated with liquid wallpaper or decorative plaster.

Deciding on the material

The tiles are made from four materials with different characteristics. Approximate cost of tiles depending on material:

Ceramicsfrom 158 rub. / m²
Porcelain tilesfrom 189 rub. / m²
Calculationfrom 165 rub. / m²
Cupfrom 350 RUR/m²

Ceramic tile

This is the cheapest type of tile. Some manufacturers sell collections of tiles in combination with shades, patterns, and decorations. The standard shape is rectangular and square, but there are also more complex ones, for example, with six corners.

Glass tiles

Glass tiles in bathroom design are ideal for creating a futuristic style of the room. It can be used for both wall and floor finishing. Glass can be transparent, translucent, colored; matte and glossy, smooth and structured.

Using glass tiles you can create elegant partitions in the bathroom or disguise additional lamps.

Do not use clear glass tiles to disguise pipes, meters, valves, etc.

Mosaic

Small tiles or mosaics have a huge and undeniable advantage - they can correct even the most uneven walls. However, such tiles are very complex - they can visually hide the space of an already small bathroom. Therefore, it is better to combine mosaics with medium-sized tiles.

Stone

There are natural (marble, granite, basalt) and artificial stones that imitate natural ones. The first option is expensive, weighs a lot, but is of high quality, and the second is the same in appearance, only lighter, cheaper, but less wear-resistant.

Porcelain tiles

Tiles similar in composition to porcelain tiles, but similar to stone, are called porcelain tiles. A distinctive feature of this tile is its almost zero water absorption. Thanks to this, such tiles are practically not afraid of frost (and, in principle, temperature changes), therefore they are very often used for cladding external walls. Porcelain tile has a texture very similar to natural stone, but is less susceptible to mechanical damage and cracks. Due to its durability, this material is recommended for flooring.

Shiny or embossed

Which tile is better to choose? Shiny tiles must be constantly wiped from water droplets and fingerprints.

  • This is not noticeable on matte and it does not require such careful care.
  • It is better to put rough tiles on the floor; they will not be slippery even when wet.
  • Glossy tiles on the floor are not safe.

In order to get a zone of peace in the bathroom, you should choose matte tiles; they will not shine and distract.

Tile colors

The most universal solution is gray tiles, which look trendy in any room, regardless of its size. To give your bathroom an extra airy, fresh, and light feel, use white finishes, which are a strong reflector of artificial and natural light.

A rather fashionable and elegant design is achieved through the use of dark purple or black patterns, which carry a certain mystery and mysticism.

The photo shows a bathroom with pink rectangular tiles on the walls and floor.

The gold color looks especially expensive and luxurious, which is mainly used to create accent areas in the room. Using shades of light green, yellow or orange you can create a positive mood in the atmosphere, and using shades of lilac, blue and dark blue you can create a calm and deep design.

The photo shows brown bamboo tiles in the bathroom interior, made in eco-style.

The coating in shades of turquoise or green is quite easily noticeable, creating an incredibly impressive interior. Particularly popular is the beige finish, which helps create the most comfortable atmosphere in a room of any stylistic direction.

Tiles with drawings, patterns and ornaments

Patterned decoration adds interesting color transitions to the atmosphere and creates an original and unique design of the room. Often this coating is used as accents.

The photo shows the interior of a bathroom with a wall lined with mosaics with ornaments in the Gzhel style.

With decor

With the help of such elements, it is possible to significantly improve the aesthetics of the coating, and thanks to contrasting inserts, achieve a brighter two-color design. This decor can be a variety of patterns, crystals, shells or sequins to create a unique design.

Under the tree

it is aesthetic, practical and, unlike natural wood, has higher performance characteristics. Due to their authentic appearance, wood grain modules are in demand in rustic or eco-friendly styles.

Green

An alternative to blue is green. This is the color of calm and regularity; it does not irritate, but gives spiritual harmony. And if you want to get a little naughty, hang a curtain with frogs in your bathroom! And the color will be consistent, and a cheerful accent will appear.

White

White looks elegant. However, white tiles can resemble a hospital setting, making the room feel cold and uncomfortable. In addition, any dirt can be seen on white surfaces, and in order for the bathroom not to lose its appearance, it will have to be cleaned very often. On the other hand, well-chosen bathroom furniture and a few bright accents will make your snow-white bathroom an object of taste and sophistication.

Optimal combinations

If you want to decorate a small bathroom with two-tone tiles, you need to choose elements that do not contrast, but complement each other. The main thing is the predominance of light shades. Winning combinations:

  • blue with blue;
  • pink with pale purple;
  • beige with ivory.

Pink with soft purple is one of the options in the interior. To combine bright and unusual shades on a light background, you can use the following combination options:

  • blue with yellow;
  • pale orange and dark purple.

Delicate orange and purple in the bathroom interior

A small pattern on elements of a contrasting shade will add sophistication and grace to the design.

It is better to decorate miniature bathrooms in two shades of the same color. Shade to visually increase the size and geometry of a space. Short walls - with lighter tiles, long walls - with tiles of a darker tone.

Original ideas for bathroom design

Introducing successful tile finishing in a modern design.

Imitation stone

Designers widely use materials that imitate natural stones, such as onyx (with contrasting veins, different patterns, shades of gray or sand), travertine (gray, brown). In addition, a trendy design can be achieved with slate or porcelain tiles.

Metal

The special texture of the finishing material is achieved by applying a special composition to its surface, sometimes with mixtures of steel and precious metals. Tiles can be made of bronze, brass, copper, titanium, gold and silver.

Terrazzo

It looks like a mosaic of colored stones. The result is a beautiful, cheerful and original bathroom interior that lifts your spirits. These tiles are great for highlighting areas and creating great combinations with wood.

How to visually expand a small bath using tiles

Basic Rules:

  • Light colors expand, dark colors contract.
  • If you want to use black, use it as an accent color on the ceiling, floor or wall.
  • In a small bathroom you should not use many colors and sizes. Two or three are enough.
  • Variegated tiles are good in rooms that have corners, niches and other flaws in the layout. In a sense, it dissolves them.
  • Use local color or texture for accents.
  • Lay the strips horizontally.
  • Use hexagonal and volumetric tiles only for accents.
  • Glossy tiles reflect light well and add volume.

Texture

In addition to white, only 1 tile can be without texture - imitation marble. It suits both modern and classic bathroom design styles. But the main thing to understand is that marble is a risky option. It is difficult to formalize which marble-effect tiles are good. So let's look at specific examples. Very bad artificial marble:

Ordinary:

Freddo:

There is a fine line between good and bad marble tiles, if you are not sure, choose something else.

To imitate all other materials, in addition to design, it is also necessary to convey texture. On mounts it is usually not as bad as after installation. Photos on the Internet also convey the plot very poorly. Everything needs to be seen in person and definitely touched with your hand.

Expensive matte concrete tiles:

And several economy class options from Belarusian:

Color

There is a lot of water in the bathroom. After drying, the water leaves white spots. These are salts that are dissolved in it. No corresponding filter option will save you from this, trust your experience. Make beautiful tiles not only on the stand, but also in light colors for the bathroom tiles. Otherwise, permanent white spots remain.

And 2 more specific facts:

  1. For an elegant and boring bathroom design, neutral tones are enough.
  2. Most colored tiles are terrible.

This is especially true inside a small bathroom. And to quickly prove that even a fully finished bathroom with gray tiles can be beautiful and not boring, here is a photo:

With the design of color options, everything is very complicated, almost everything is rubbish, from which neither ideal layout nor other tricks can be saved. But there are rare exceptions. Therefore, any colored tile is a risk. Sometimes this can be good, but it requires a sense of taste and proportion, and this is a very careful choice. Colored tiles for the bathroom at the entrance and not (the edge is very thin):

But even good colored tiles should be an accent, not a base. The base color should always be neutral. In no case should aggressive colors predominate, such as red, pink, purple, green. In a word, the same rules that are described in the material regarding the combination of colors (for example, because pure red color is almost impossible to fit into the interior properly).

Tile layout methods

Not only the aesthetic appearance of the finished finish, but also the material consumption depends on the layout method. The most popular styling options include the “golden” five methods: straight, diagonal, horizontal, vertical and staggered. More complex ones include mosaic, modular and checkerboard. There are also combined options; they are usually used when combining materials of different sizes, colors and textures. If you lay out the tiles in accordance with all the rules of the chosen method, the finished picture will be easily perceived visually and will emphasize the advantages of the room.

Straight

Even a novice designer can lay tiles “seam to seam”. With a direct layout, each tile in the next row should repeat the location of its neighbor from the previous one. In this case, the only thing that matters is the level foundation of the first level, on which all the others will rest. As a rule, tiled walls have a simple, but beautiful and neat appearance. The method is characterized by high material savings.

Running

With the staggered method, adjacent seams between fragments are not joined. Each subsequent row is shifted by a length equal to half the tile. This method imitates brickwork on the walls and laminate or parquet boards on the floor. The color scheme is usually selected accordingly. This type of finishing will require approximately the same amount of material as the direct method. However, you will have to tinker with cutting the fragments, since one row of two will usually start with half a tile.

The deck spread implies a diagonal arrangement of the “brick” masonry.

Diagonal

The diagonal type of laying, in turn, is classified into three types:

  • Simple with respect to the seam. The result will be a composition of smooth vertical rhombuses. Every second row will end in a triangle, so you will have to cut the same number of pieces as with the staggered method.
  • Laying with inserts. For this option, tiles are used in two sizes: large rectangles and small squares. Inside each four large tiles there is a small fragment.
  • Laying with seam offset to the side (herringbone). Each subsequent row of tiled rectangles changes direction to the opposite. As a result, adjacent fragments lie with their short side on half of the long edge of the bottom tiles.

The more complex the type of diagonal laying, the longer the work will take. It is recommended to lay tiles offset to the side if there are material defects: deviations from 90-degree angles or discrepancies in the length and width of each fragment.

Modular

The modular method allows you to create an original seam pattern on the surface of the floor or walls in the bathroom. The essence of the method is in the name. For finishing, fragments of different sizes and sometimes colors are used. The tiles can be laid horizontally or diagonally. Compositions using two or three different modules, usually rectangular and square shapes, are relevant. The more diverse fragments there are, the more complex the resulting drawing will be. In catalogs, manufacturers usually mark tiles that allow modular installation with the designation “modulare”.

Horizontal

The method is used for rectangular tiles. With this type of installation, the wide edges are located in a horizontal plane. The practice is actively used for small rooms, which thus visually stretch to hide the lack of space. If the tile seams are barely noticeable, and only one color is used, then there is no difference between horizontal and vertical installation. To make the effect more noticeable, the spaces between the fragments are decorated with a special coating.

Vertical

The method is diametrically opposite to the horizontal one. The wide edges of the rectangular tiles are arranged vertically. The method is used when finishing rooms with low ceilings. Vertical “stripes” of seams will elongate the bathroom and visually add a couple of meters in height to it.

Mosaic layout

The mosaic effect on the entire surface of a wall or floor can add unnecessary stress to the visual perception of the room. Its combination with straight, diagonal or horizontal methods looks more organic. Under the mosaic, a separate fragment is allocated on the surface, which will act as an accent. To depict a panel on the wall, you no longer have to painstakingly assemble the picture piece by piece. Manufacturers are concerned about simplifying the task and began to produce special mesh bases that allow you to attach large mosaic modules in one fell swoop. The smaller the pieces of the finishing “puzzle”, the higher the detail of the picture.

There is a separate type of tile that imitates mosaic. Decorative “seams” are applied to the surface of a single piece.

Checkerboard laying

In the classic chess version, black and white fragments are used. The tiles can be laid in a straight or diagonal manner, depending on the preferences of the bathroom owners. Checkerboard styling is necessarily based on a combination of two different colors. In more complex compositions, a large number of shades are used within one tone or according to the principle of contrast. The arrangement of fragments is subject to strict rules and does not allow chaotic combinations. Otherwise, the result will not be a chess arrangement, but a creative disorder.

Combined method

In addition to the above methods, combinations of them are also used. Usually the combination is made within two options. The “joints” of different layouts are emphasized with contrasting seams. It is relevant to horizontally divide a small room in half by drawing an actual line. To highlight accent zones against the background of simpler layout options, complex methods of labyrinth, mosaic, offset seams or modular combinations are used. Often these areas are decorated with tiles of other colors that contrast with the neutral background solution.

DIY bathroom tiling

Here's what to remember when decorating your bathroom with your own tiles:

  • Before laying tiles, the surface must be completely cleaned.
  • The floor in the bathroom can be leveled, but it is better to do it at a slight angle to the center of the bathroom - in case of a leak, it will be easier to clean the water than somewhere behind the bath.
  • The adhesive solution must be prepared strictly according to the attached instructions.
  • To prevent the tile from slipping, the adhesive solution is applied in a thin layer. Using a special spatula or knitting needle, you need to make grooves on it.
  • To ensure that the tile joints are the same size, special plastic crosses are inserted between the tiles.
  • It is better to start laying tiles from the corner of the bathroom, which is located in front of the door - in this case, the places where you had to cut the tiles will not be so surprising.
  • If you mark the walls in advance, you can calculate the points at which the tiles will need to be cut and laid out in parts for the bottom row, and entirely for the top row.

How to choose the optimal layout

Before choosing a tile, it is worth drawing a sketch by hand to decide on the type of cladding. To do this, you need to draw a detailed plan of the room with all dimensions and furnishings:

  • carefully take measurements of the floor and walls, openings, and indicate the parameters on paper;
  • draw up a drawing of the bathroom and be sure to show the location of the doorway, window (if any), all niches and ledges;
  • indicate the location of plumbing fixtures, sockets, switches, and pipeline outlets.

Now that the plan is ready, you can choose the optimal layout scheme using sketches with colored pencils. Such a sketch will help determine the best location of decorative elements, places to cut tiles, and problem areas. Be sure to consider the degree of complexity of the work if you plan to do the cladding yourself.

Tile layout options may depend on the geometry of the walls and the presence of protrusions

Correct layout of tiles in the bathroom

Advice. Now there are special programs that allow you to design the layout of the cladding in the bathroom and see what it will look like. Most large construction stores have been offering similar services to their customers for a long time. You can find the program yourself and practice the art of design.

How to save money on bathroom tiles

If you need to save money, install the tiles on site. Combine it with other materials:

  • moisture-resistant paints;
  • panels;
  • special wallpaper;
  • printed glass;
  • mosaic panels;
  • microcement;
  • tree;
  • ceramic inserts;
  • calculation;
  • brick.

What is the best place to leave the tiles?

  • In places most vulnerable to moisture: near the bathtub, sink, shower.
  • You can lay the tiles in the center of the wall.
  • Above the sink you can make an apron from several rows of tiles.
  • Don't waste tiles on niches, window sills or under the sink.

Color, texture, pattern

Tiles with various flowers, stripes and figures have not been in fashion for a long time. For a beautiful and modern interior, you need to focus on certain decor. It should imitate various natural materials, such as wood, stone, leather, marble and others.

Tiles of the same color should be laid. You should not lay tiles using unusual patterns. When using natural texture you need to do it correctly.

Examples of modern tile designs

Ceramic tiles in the bathroom are the same finishing material as paint or wallpaper in other rooms. It is not an accessory or decoration and should not be garish or flashy. For a bathroom in an apartment, 2-3 types of tiles are enough, even taking into account the floor. The wall is usually chosen lighter than the floor.

  1. This gives us a gradient: dark on the floor, lighter on the wall, and white on the ceiling.
  2. A lot of water gets on the walls, and the stains are less visible in the light.
  3. All fixtures in bathrooms are white and work best when there is no sharp contrast with the walls.

Fashion in general is a controversial thing, but in the bathroom it is now really adequate. See photos of modern bathroom interiors. Let's analyze the tiles right away. Bathroom floor: wood-look porcelain tiles.

For bathroom walls in patchwork style::

Gray tile options look beautiful (no, not boring), especially with texture (it looks elegant when backlit). Many of the gray tiles shown in the photos are fairly inexpensive options and look good in real apartments.

Very practical, but visual design is not for everyone - pixel:

Or its beautiful modern brother with embossed squares:

Tiles that imitate stone, marble, slate and so on are still in fashion and are great for decorating a modern bathroom

These are all kinds of correct bathroom tile designs. Anything below is a risk.

Risky design options: all glossy, non-imitation (only white pig tested) and options for cladding and zoning using mosaics. But this is at your own peril and risk.

Grout for joints

This is an important stage of laying tiles, which must not be forgotten if you want the coating to last as long as possible and not become unusable. Since in this case the tiles are laid specifically in the bathroom, it is easy to guess that they will constantly be exposed to the negative effects of high humidity. If water gets under the tiles, it will be impossible to avoid the appearance of fungus. In addition, there is a high probability that over time the tiles will begin to peel off altogether.

It is best to use compositions based on two components, one of which is epoxy resin. It has the ability to repel water. Regardless of the period of use, its surface does not change color.

And this is very important if we talk about the presentable appearance of the coating. After all, laying wall tiles in the bathroom with your own hands will look beautiful if the grout was matched to the darkest element.
