Features and technological characteristics of the “Wet Effect” composition
The product works on porous materials - paving slabs, paving stones, smooth concrete, granite, marble, ceramics. After treatment, the surfaces receive the necessary hydrophobic protection, and in appearance they look like shiny wet stone.
Protect Guard “Wet effect” in a complex solves important problems:
- increases the durability of the material and its resistance to aggressive contamination;
- beneficially renews the appearance of surfaces;
- facilitates the care of structures and products for a long time;
- saturates natural shades.
The preparation does not form a film and allows the surface to “breathe”, and demonstrates high resistance to ultraviolet radiation.
The material is packaged in polyethylene containers in convenient volumes - 1, 5, 10, 25 kg. The consumption of the composition depends on the type of surface being treated and is 6 - 12 l/m2.
Protect Guard “Wet Effect” is biodegradable (90%), does not contain petroleum solvents, is non-toxic, and fireproof.
For dry roads
If puddles do not form on the road or square, you can safely use the Tiprom M water repellent with a wet effect to impregnate the coating.
Of course, impregnation of wet stone looks more impressive, but a clean, well-maintained matte finish will always delight you with its durability.
This does not mean that snow or rain should not fall on the tiles - if the drainage system is in order, and aggressive anti-icing agents are not used in winter, you can safely buy an impregnation for paving slabs with a wet effect and treat the coating, achieving the desired degree of expressiveness. But in places where dampness settles for a long time - for example, puddles or an area under a pipe that drains water from the roof - such a coating will not last long.
Technology for creating comprehensive protection
Organizing and carrying out work to create effective comprehensive protection for paving will ensure the presence of a durable protective film that simultaneously performs several important tasks. Its creation is best started before laying the tiles.
First of all, using detergents, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the material from dust and dirt. If the path or platform has already been laid, then we clean the finished surface.
The process of applying water repellent.
Next, you need to pour the hydrophobic composition into a wide container and put the tiles in it for 5-7 minutes, then remove and dry. The water repellent is applied to the laid coating with a roller, paint brush or spray. All subsequent operations are performed only after laying the tiles.
Complex processing
This type of tile processing involves the use of several means and methods of protection. This is not only a “wet stone” water repellent for paving slabs, but also a decorative layer, the implementation of certain works.
How to perform universal complex coating treatment:
- Make local repairs, thoroughly clean the surface from dirt and dust.
- Apply a layer of water repellent for reliable protection against water.
- Cover the tiles with a decorative composition - usually it is a wear-resistant varnish intended for outdoor use.
Complex treatment allows you to: increase the resistance of the coating to moisture, resistance to sunlight and negative atmospheric phenomena, extend the service life, improve aesthetics, protect against microorganisms and moss.
The modern market for materials for repair work offers a wide selection of water repellents - in stores in the regions and Moscow, “wet stone” and other types of compositions can be found in various versions. The main thing in this case is to choose the right product and apply it in accordance with the technology to create a beautiful, reliable and durable layer on paving slabs.
Benefits of processing
Providing full care for paving slabs involves additional treatment with decorative varnishes or hydrophobic impregnations that protect the coating from rain and snow and create a beautiful matte surface of rich color. Such a water repellent will allow:
- increase the service life of the paved pavement;
- improve the appearance of paving stones by giving the surface a more saturated color;
- get the original effect of wet stone with a matte surface;
- increase abrasion resistance;
- achieve an “anti-slip” effect;
- prevent the occurrence of white salt stains, mold and moss.
It is much easier and cheaper to take care of the issue of additional protection in a timely manner than to repair the paving stones after the destruction of the material or loss of appearance.
Ways to protect paving slabs
Solutions and substances for additional processing of paving slabs are divided into 4 main types:
- water repellent - to increase the moisture resistance and frost resistance of paving stones;
- decorative - to generally improve the appearance of paving stones;
- cleansing - to remove dirty stains, salt deposits, grease, oil and others;
- antifungal - to protect tile joints and blind areas.
Using these products, you can create a universal coating that will provide multifunctional comprehensive protection for paving stones or any other type of paving slabs.

Prevents dust and dirt formation. Ready solution. No acid. Eco-friendly. Fire and explosion proof.
Advantages:
- Creates an effective UV film on the surface (wet stone effect)
- Does not change the appearance of products and the mechanical properties of processed materials
- Deep penetration;
- Quick drying (10-15 minutes)
- Acid free
- Economical consumption
- High adhesion
- Does not damage the treated surface
- Does not contain mercury compounds or heavy metals
- Application work can be carried out at temperatures from -10°C
Average consumption
1l: 5 – 7 m²
Mode of application:
The composition is ready to use. Waterproofing work must be carried out in dry weather. The surface to be treated must be cleaned of dust, dirt and construction debris, oil stains and drips, and paint residues. Cracks (excluding hairline cracks) must be repaired. The water repellent is applied with a brush, roller or spray quite liberally, but without the formation of drips. It can be processed by immersing the product in a water-repellent composition for several minutes. When applying the product in two layers, the second is applied after absorption, but before the first begins to dry (usually after 5-15 minutes). The required hydrophobicity occurs after complete drying, usually after 24 hours. Drying should occur naturally. The water repellent is not intended for processing metal and plastic products!
Precautionary measures:
If the product gets into your eyes or skin, rinse thoroughly with water. If necessary, consult a doctor. When working with the composition, use protective equipment for working with chemicals (protective suits, rubber aprons and gloves, safety glasses) according to technical regulations. The product is non-toxic, explosion- and fireproof. When the composition and its components interact with the air and wastewater, no toxic or explosive compounds are formed.
Shelf life and storage conditions:
Store unopened at temperatures from 0 to 30°C in the manufacturer's container. Shelf life is 1 year from the date of manufacture. The shelf life of the composition in an open container is no more than 3 hours. It is not afraid of freezing and retains its cleaning ability after defrosting. It is recommended to stir the product before use and in case of defrosting.

Popular hydrophobic solutions
Today, the market offers a huge selection of products for waterproofing paving slabs. Solutions can be based on alcohol, polymers, or water. Polymer ones are considered the best, as they allow water vapor and air to pass through, guaranteeing reliable protection against water. But the cost of such solutions is the highest, there are certain requirements for the work: apply only at an air temperature of +22C, drying very quickly. The service life of the water-repellent coating is at least 10 years.
Water-based solutions
created on the basis of the technology of dissolving silicone fats in water. Once in the tile stone, silicone fats reliably close the pores and prevent water from penetrating into them. The material is relatively cheap, but provides protection only for 3-4 years.
Alcohol solutions
in terms of performance characteristics they are similar to water-based ones, but are considered more universal, since application to paving stones can be carried out in any conditions, even on a wet surface.
The most popular water repellents:
- Tiprom M/Tiprom K Lux
– excellent protective properties, long service life. Impregnations guarantee comprehensive protection, give a “wet stone” effect, and can be used in particularly difficult places, as they provide increased penetration into concrete.
- Ceresit CT10
– the composition is based on organic silicone, which provides comprehensive protection and also creates the effect of a stone after rain. The first layer of coating gives a durable film, guarantees biological and antibacterial protection, not giving a chance to fungus and mold.
- Impregnat Dry
– a substance for protecting paving slabs, which penetrates well, significantly increases resistance to frost, and improves the appearance of the stone. Apply at least 2 layers.
- VOKA
– universal impregnation with increased water-repellent characteristics. Applied in one layer, it is capable of penetrating into stone to a depth of 3 millimeters. Assumes an extended service life - usually more than 10 years.
Any impregnation protects paving slabs well from the damaging effects of moisture, maintains an ideal appearance, and significantly extends the service life of the coating. Manufacturers offer different solutions, but the consumer’s task is to determine the best ones, which composition will be more relevant in specific conditions.
For damp areas
For constantly damp areas, we can suggest Tiprom K LUX. It is distinguished by the greatest penetration depth of the water repellent, 20 mm deep into the pores. This reliably prevents capillary suction, which means that the tile will not collapse under the influence of water, temperature changes and putrefactive processes.
Of course, impregnation of wet stone looks more impressive, but a clean, well-maintained matte finish will always delight you with its durability.

The main disadvantage of paving slabs
Paving slabs have many advantages - aesthetic and beautiful appearance, the ability to choose from a variety of shades and patterns, strength and reliability, comfortable and long-term operation, simple and quick installation. But this coating has one drawback - a high level of sensitivity to moisture due to its penetration into the pores of the material.
Moisture penetrates the tile through the pores, saturating the stone and making it damp. And in winter, moisture tends to freeze and expand, deforming the coating. It is also possible for efflorescence to occur due to the erosion of salt in the material by water. All this spoils both the appearance of the coating and its performance properties.
Water-repellent impregnation for paving slabs will create a reliable water-repellent layer on the coating, protecting it 100% from water penetration. Modern manufacturers offer many different products that differ in composition, action, cost, etc., so choosing the ideal option is not difficult.
