Every resident of the metropolis dreams of hiding from the bustle of the city in a cozy village house, sleeping on a feather bed fluffed by a caring grandmother, and having breakfast with fresh milk and buns. But if fresh milk with buns is an impossible dream, then it is quite possible to recreate the rustic comfort not only in a country house, but, if desired, in a city apartment. It is only important to choose a direction in a given style and follow it exactly.
Features of rustic style
Rural style can be very different: probably no other interior design has so many varieties. The most widespread are three types: French, English (also called country) and Russian. They have their own individual characteristics and differences. The fact is that the rustic style took a very long time to develop, acquired details over the centuries, and in each country absorbed features of local color.
And yet there are common features for all directions, without which interior design in a rustic style will be incomplete:
- unpretentious decoration in natural colors, rough simplicity of the textures and details used: rough plaster, benches and chairs of “clumsy” work;
- widespread use of natural materials - mainly wood, in some details - stone;
- strong, inelegant furniture made from natural materials;
- high detail: the presence of many handmade decorations;
- natural textiles: rugs, napkins, carpets, rugs, blankets;
French or Provence

The style with hints of the French countryside differs from similar lighter tones. The design is dominated by natural wood, bleached or painted in pastel colors. Also characteristic of French Provence:
- combining natural wood with stones and metal;
- the presence of forged objects;
- artificial aging of furniture accessories, room decoration;
- plants in the interior, for example, fresh flowers in pots;
- combination of floral patterns with plain, flat surfaces;
- furniture with elements of wood carving;
- interior in white, mint, yellow shades.
Russian style
Russian style is simple, there are no elaborate details. It is characterized by the widespread use of wood: log cabins, boarded ceilings and walls, wooden utensils and furniture. It is also difficult to imagine the Russian style without painting on plaster, a samovar, and a Russian stove. In the kitchen it is customary to hang dry herbs collected in bunches, bunches of onions and garlic.
When creating such an interior, clay figurines, painted trays, and “grandmother’s” chests will be useful. Only natural fabrics are used: linen, cotton, chintz.
When decorating an interior in a rustic style, it is important to take into account some nuances for each area of the room.
Reel table
A wooden cable reel is useful for creating a durable and comfortable table: the structure should be sanded and coated with paint, stain or varnish. The hole in the middle will be an excellent support for a beach umbrella. You can decorate the table in any way.
Rustic style in the kitchen
It would be good if the kitchen wall was brick or tiled with imitation brick. Of course, the walls can be painted in light, discreet colors. But it is still better to decorate the kitchen apron with brick - it will add a certain flavor, as can be seen in the photo of the interior in a rustic style.
It is worth choosing wooden furniture - carved or decorated with paintings. It is better to buy built-in equipment so that you can cover it with decorative elements.
If space allows, leave the floor beams exposed. They can be decorated with bunches of herbs, garlic, red pepper.
A rustic kitchen is characterized by an abundance of decor. Everything will come in handy: handmade embroidery, kiln-fired pots, jars, a sideboard with painted porcelain dishes, wicker baskets and vases.
Swing
Swings in a summer cottage give joy to both children and adults. You can construct them yourself by mounting them on a tree or on a special support. Not only standard boards are used as blanks, but also tires, as well as parts from chairs.
In order to make your cottage cozy, it is not at all necessary to go to the store, since the best crafts are made from improvised materials.
Country style living room
The rustic style is ideal for the living room - after all, it should be the coziest place in the house. Place upholstered furniture on a wooden floor and hang a carpet on the wall. By the way, the furniture can be either wooden or wicker - there are many options. The lighting should be warm - yellow. Curtains in natural colors will add a special charm to the living room.
Complete the interior with cute crafts, small pillows with embroidered pillowcases, and hang family photos.
The living room should become a gathering place for the whole family to relax and have intimate conversations, so the atmosphere should be created as warm and simple as possible.
City comfort and country coziness: the interior of a country house for a family holiday
This family holiday home for a young couple with a child is located in the Tver region. “Since the house is made of timber and is geographically located in a real village, the style solution came naturally,” project designer Natalia Vasilyeva begins her story. “On the one hand, I wanted to create an interior with the usual urban comfort, and on the other hand, give it some simplicity and a feeling of closeness to nature, without going country or making the house a rural dwelling.”

The total area of the building is 380 sq.m. It took Natalia’s clients about four years to build the house and implement the interior design. The customers are very hospitable hosts and they wanted their new country house to be comfortable for all their friends and relatives who come to visit them.
Natalia was faced with the task of organizing private spaces for both permanent residents and guests of the house, as well as areas for joint recreation and leisure. “Communication with clients was easy,” notes Natalia. “In addition to the fact that these are simply wonderful people, we also turned out to be the same age, which provided additional mutual understanding, and besides, this is not our first project, so I was very lucky with the customers.”
Since the house was intended to be a place to relax from the bustle of the city, Natalia gave preference to natural materials and calm, bleached colors when finishing and decorating the interior of the house; in her opinion, this helps create an atmosphere of peace and serenity in the interior. “The house is made of laminated veneer lumber,” continues the author of the project. “Therefore, I tried as much as possible to preserve the natural structure of the material, even the coloring of the walls is light and transparent - the texture of the wood comes through it, which gives additional comfort and warmth to the room.”

Upon entering the house, guests have a panoramic view of the living room, in which a huge fireplace occupies a central place. The translucent double-sided hearth with a marble frame looks very impressive. Interior designer Natalia Vasilyeva thus solved several problems at once - on the one hand, the fireplace helps to visually separate the living room from the entrance area, on the other hand, daylight can freely penetrate beyond the living room, and the ability to observe the fire in the fireplace from different angles suggests unexpected scenarios use of space.

The two-height living room is furnished with wooden furniture and decorated with light textiles - armchairs with high backs and a soft sofa surround a coffee table made of solid wood. Natalia carefully thought through the atmosphere of the living room, trying to bring peace and comfort into it, and now this is a favorite place for all the inhabitants of the house - some gather here to read books, others for leisurely communication over a cup of tea.
Adjacent to the living room is the kitchen-dining room. Kitchen furniture from Scavolini in country style is equipped with everything necessary for storing and preparing food. Its facades of a delicate creamy shade delicately combine with the mint color of the island element. Adjacent to the kitchen is a pantry for storing food and pickles.

Customers who often host guests paid great attention to the selection of furniture for the dining area, and the highest demands were placed on the dining table. Now a warm company headed by hospitable hosts likes to gather around him. Supporting the general trend in home decoration, predominantly natural materials are used in the kitchen area and dining room, which have not only decorative and aesthetic value, but also durability, as well as unique tactile properties.

The house has several bedrooms and each is interesting in its own way. “In the master bedroom, the color scheme is restrained - warm linen shades, and the emphasis is on the headboard, it is made of carved massive boards, as if assembled together with metal rivets,” says Natalia Vasilyeva. “In addition to the color scheme, the natural component is complemented by the straw used in the lampshades of the table lamps.” The lining that covers the ceiling is tinted to match the color of the walls and distracts attention from the ceiling of a complex shape.

“In one of the guest bedrooms, the decoration was deliberately rich,” Natalya shares her impressions. — It differs in color from the concept of the house, but, nevertheless, does not violate the overall harmony. The decor and decoration uses a festive theme - these are tapestries with scenes of the royal hunt, and the painting of the head of the bed, and a carved screen, and even a burgundy velvet bedspread - all this lifts the mood and creates a feeling of celebration.” A chest in the color of fresh greenery with dark and light ornaments on the ends looks bright and unusual in this bedroom. By the way, chests, not only as decoration, but also as an additional storage element, are often found here in different rooms.

“There is another guest bedroom in a classic style with a wrought-iron bed,” continues Natalia. “Even though the color of the room is very delicate and restrained in gray-blue tones, there is a strong contrast in the decor - a brutal solid wood cabinet and a leather chest get along well with elegant table lamps and chiffon lampshades.”

The children's room has a thematic focus. The marine theme can be seen in literally everything - in the choice of furniture, lighting, textiles, and decorative elements.

The house was designed for relaxation and it was very important to create an environment conducive to relaxation and mental comfort.”
Children's room in a rustic style
Children love the rustic style for its carelessness, lack of severity and undoubted similarity to the decoration of huts from folk tales. There are no special requirements for decorating a nursery: the same wooden furniture, comfort, simplicity.
You can make bright accents in the interior by placing beautiful antique toys on the shelves. One of the walls can be painted in a fairy-tale style, and the furniture can be decorated with stickers.
Advantages of wooden houses
Almost everyone agrees that a house made of wood looks more solid and aesthetically pleasing than houses made of other modern materials for construction and decoration.
Wooden houses have two unique features - sound insulation and thermal insulation. The former will allow you to play loud music, watch TV or organize noisy meetings without disturbing your neighbors, while the latter will not allow the heat to escape in the cold winter. In addition, in wooden houses the humidity level is always optimal for comfort, regardless of weather conditions.
The tree also contains substances called phytonides. Thanks to them, optimal temperature and humidity are maintained in the house. Wooden houses are practical and beautiful. The interior design of a country house with your own hands can serve as an example of the aesthetics of wooden buildings.
Rustic bathroom
A rustic bathroom design is characterized by the use of materials such as marble, stone and copper. Acceptable colors are white, beige, coffee. They will go well with wooden cabinets and shelves. This is the case when sand-colored sanitary ware and floor tiles with imitation stone look organic.
Wide choice - difficult choice
Options for a rustic style, according to the individual preferences of the home owner, can be:
- Provence;
- country;
- modern rustic;
- Russian in its opposites: light light and dark massive;
- English countryside.
The interior, designed in the style of a Siberian country house, is also not similar to the decor of a French country house, like rye bread to a baguette: it differs in color, material of manufacture and even shape.
The design of a village house inside can be very diverse; try on any option from classic to minimalism. It depends only on the desire of the owner. However, if the appearance of the house was originally planned as an analogue of a Swiss chalet or tower, it is most pleasant not to be deceived by the first impression of the appearance, but when entering the interior to see all the attributes of the corresponding rustic style. The organic combination of the external image and the internal spirit of the house produces a greater effect than different styles.
