Preparing the ceiling for painting

- The joints are covered with putty, taking into account the concealment of the screws;
- A serpyanka or perforated paper-based tape is mounted on top until the putty dries;
- A new layer of putty is applied;
- The base is covered with soil;
- The leveling is completed with Perlfix glue. It is distinguished by its imposition without traces, but is very capricious in operation. Therefore not suitable for beginners;
- After drying, sanding is performed;
- Finishing primer is applied.

Latex composition
One of the most expensive solutions among paints and varnishes. This is due to its excellent strength characteristics. It is resistant to mechanical interactions and repeated washing. The elastic film lies evenly on any base (concrete, wood, plaster), providing a good decorative effect. The structure of the liquid is gas permeable and, after drying, allows air to pass through well.
It is odorless, non-toxic, and can be applied even with the windows closed. The room does not require ventilation, so repairs are possible in the cold season. Dries very quickly, within two hours.
A small disadvantage of latex paint is the rapid growth of bacteria and mold on it. When used in rooms with high humidity, additional priming of the wall with antifungal compounds is required.
Unfortunately, it is not resistant to ultraviolet radiation. With a constant flow of light, it fades, and at low temperatures, it cracks and peels off.
Silicone compounds
An emulsion of water and silicone resins provides the most reliable coating, but also the most expensive. It has high stability and long-term operation inside buildings and on external walls, and can also be used for enclosed spaces with high humidity.
It lies on any surface, even an unprepared one, and hides minor flaws in the base. Odorless, environmentally friendly, prevents the development of mold, has a high degree of resistance to ultraviolet radiation. The film is waterproof, but breathable, and can be washed with water without losing its visual appeal.
Negative values and temperature changes do not destroy silicone coatings. The high price is also justified by its economical consumption; the paint is applied in one layer.
The downside of such emulsions is their incompatibility with other paints and varnishes; the application process requires special clothing and a respirator to protect the respiratory system. In addition, such a mixture cannot be washed off.
“Snowball” paints
Polish products are available for any surface. Ceiling paint Snezhka has shown itself well in painting surfaces on concrete, plaster, plaster, cardboard, wood, etc. Among the product range there is a special series for children's rooms, this is the Disney series. It has a hypoallergenic composition, and even when dried it does not emit harmful substances.

What is the difference between painting a ceiling?
For example, in a private house, the ceiling is created, as a rule, from a concrete floor, reinforced concrete slabs, beams, or poured using a monolithic method.

Painting process
So, let's begin. Painting the ceiling with Snezka is not a labor-intensive process at all, but you should follow some rules when painting:
- It is recommended to carry out all work at a room temperature not lower than +5 o C, while observing safety precautions;
- If you are applying paint to freshly plastered surfaces, it is better to allow time for complete drying and only then paint;
- Apply the paint in 2-3 layers, but be sure to wait for the previous layer to dry before painting the next one;
- You can paint with a brush, as well as with a roller or spray from a spray gun. But in each case it is necessary to control the consistency of the paint.
Now you can begin the painting process itself.
- Pour paint into our prepared tray. If the paint is thick, it is better to slightly dilute it to an acceptable consistency and stir well. A drill with a small attachment is suitable for this purpose.
- Then paint the perimeter of the ceiling with a brush, preferably twice, of course, to cover everything. This technique will help us avoid contact of the roller with the walls and paint hard-to-reach places.
- Then dip the roller in the bath and squeeze lightly. Apply the first coat of paint to the ceiling, but the main thing is not to rush. It is better to apply the paint not in 1 thick layer, but in 2 - 3 passes. This type of paint will last better and longer.
Tip: It is best to apply the final coat of paint with a clean, unused roller so that it evenly covers the entire surface.
Painting the ceiling.
It is better to start painting from the window, then gradually move deeper into the room.
Apply the first layer of paint across, and the second along the sun's rays. In order to avoid streaks on the ceiling, it is better to apply the paint in a W-shaped motion. After there is no paint left on the roller, you can walk it over the already painted surface to remove excess paint.
But you shouldn’t rub the painted surface with a dry roller; unsightly stripes may form on the surface of the ceiling, and the paint layer itself will be uneven.
To avoid paint sagging, make sure that there is always approximately the same amount of paint on the roller. To do this, you need to dip it in a paint bath more often and carefully roll it along a special side near the bath, getting rid of excess paint.
If you want to make it easier to clean the paint tray after finishing work, you can line its inner surface with film, and wrap the edges over the sides of the tray and secure it with tape. And when all work on painting the ceiling is completed, remove the film along with the paint, then the container remains clean.
Tip: After you have painted the ceiling, if the windows face the sunny side, you need to shade them. Do not allow drafts in the room or try to speed up the drying process with heating devices. In this case, the paint may warp and come off the surface.
