Coating service life

Red lead paint

The lifespan of MA-15 paint depends on three factors:

  1. Environment.
  2. Frequencies of physical impact on the painted surface.
  3. Fulfilling the requirements for preparing the surface to be painted.

In the first case we are talking about climate. In a moderate climate (from minus forty-five to plus sixty degrees), the paint will last about one year.

The second is how often any physical impact is applied to the surface. For example, you cannot paint the floor with MA-15 paint, because it is constantly walked on. Don't forget about dust.

And third, how well the surface was prepared before applying the paint. How many layers were applied, whether primer, putty was applied, the presence of rust, and so on - all this affects the service life of the coating.

If all requirements are met, the coating will last from one to one and a half years, after which it will have to be reapplied.

If all requirements are met, the coating will last from one to one and a half years, after which it will have to be reapplied.

This paint copes with its assigned tasks very well. It copes well with high and low temperatures, but does not tolerate intense physical impact. You can recommend it to your friends as a very good paint for applying to the external or internal walls of a house.

Application of oil paint MA-15

Before starting to work with MA-15 paint and varnish material, it is necessary to carefully prepare the surface to be painted. The surface is degreased, dust and dirt are removed. You also need to make sure that there are no remnants of the old coating. The base for painting must be level, so if there are depressions, they must be plastered.

To improve the final effect of the paint, the surface is pre-primed. You can use an alkyd-based primer. When working with wood, but primed with drying oil.

Before painting the surface, make sure it is clean and dry. The paint and varnish material is thoroughly mixed. If the visible thickness of the paint is too high, it is recommended to add a solvent to it. Construction stores sell special compounds for thinning oil-based paints.

You can apply the paint with a brush or roller. It is permissible to use a pneumatic sprayer with a straight nozzle. It is important to observe humidity and temperature indicators. Humidity should not exceed 80%, and temperature should be between 5 and 35 degrees Celsius above zero. Use white spirit to clean tools after painting.

You can paint with MA-15 oil paint after careful preparation of the base. The base is thoroughly cleaned from any contaminants, including dirt, grease stains, dust, old paints and varnishes, rust, traces of corrosion, loose, crumbling areas, etc.

If there are chips, dents and holes on the base, they must be repaired with plaster or putty. To enhance the adhesion (adhesion) of the paint to the surface, it is advisable to apply a layer of alkyd primer. If new wood is to be painted, it must first be covered with a layer of drying oil or wood primer.

It is important to remember that MA-15 can only be applied to a clean and dry base. Before painting, the paint must be mixed thoroughly

If the consistency is too thick, you need to add a solvent, for example, turpentine.

The application process can be carried out using pneumatic spraying from a spray gun, or you can use a brush and roller. During application of the composition, the temperature should be in the range of 5-35 degrees, and the humidity level should be 55%-80%. Upon completion of all work, the tools used must be immediately washed with white spirit.

Color and appearance of the coating:

After drying, the paint forms a homogeneous surface, without pockmarks, wrinkles and foreign inclusions.

MA-15 paint is available in the following colors: dark red, cream, dark yellow, green, pistachio, blue, light blue, dark gray, brown, red-brown, beige.

Paint consumption per 1 layer

Paint consumption per 1 m2 depends on a number of reasons, such as the color of the paint, the method of painting, and how the material absorbs the paint. Material consumption is estimated at 55-240 g/sq.m of base. When painting metal, paint consumption will be less compared to wooden bases.

Indicators of the thickness of the paint and varnish material

Through measurements it was found that the thickness of one layer of MA-15 oil paint is about 30 microns. The two-layer coating is rated at 60 microns.

Surface drying

If the temperature is 20 degrees above zero, drying time is 1 day. However, under other temperature conditions, drying time may increase to several days.

If the surface is properly painted and dried, the paint will retain its properties throughout the year. You should understand painting in 2 layers and operation in temperatures from -45 to +60 degrees Celsius.

Before painting a metal surface, it should be primed using compounds such as PF, VL. and others. Metal bases are coated with two layers of MA-15 paint; for wooden bases, 1 to 2 layers are sufficient, with pre-treatment of the wood with drying oil.

Features of application

The algorithm for using MA15 paint is as follows:

  1. Surface preparation. Dust, dirt, grease stains, remnants of old coating, scale, and rust are removed from it. Cracks are puttied, irregularities are removed or sealed. The wet surface is dried. It is recommended to pre-apply an alkyd or glypthal primer to increase adhesion (adhesion of the material to the surface). For the first time, wooden products to be painted are impregnated with drying oil or a special primer is applied.
  2. Preparation of paint and varnish material. Before work, mix the paint and add a solvent if necessary. Pour in little by little - if you exceed the dosage, the quality of the composition deteriorates. If the paint has hardened, heat it in warm water to +20°C or slightly higher.
  3. Painting works. The paint is applied at a temperature of +5...+35°C, humidity not higher than 80%. The room is ventilated during work and after completion. The tools used are brushes, rollers or a spray gun, depending on the features and surface area.
  4. Drying. The paint dries in 24 hours if the temperature is about +20°C. Final polymerization occurs within 5 days under the same conditions.

Consumption per layer

Several factors influence material consumption:

  1. Method of applying paint. The most economical tool is a spray gun, then a roller; the most paint is consumed when applied with a brush. For a pneumatic gun, the most liquid composition is prepared, more solvent is consumed; for a brush - the thickest.
  2. Surface porosity, ability to absorb coatings. Wood takes more paint than metal. In terms of economy, metal is followed by concrete; then - brick.
  3. Paint and base color. If the surface being painted is dark, it will show through the paint. Therefore, it is recommended to prime it, choosing a suitable shade. Mostly the primer used is gray for light-colored paints and black for dark paints.

For painting 1 sq. m of surface requires 20-250 g of paintwork.

Optimal layer thickness

A correctly applied layer has a thickness of 25-30 microns. For it to turn out like this, you need to properly prepare the paint: too thick, like liquid, will not ensure the formation of a durable film. The thickness is also influenced by the qualifications of the craftsmen and the tool used.

Coating service life

The painted surface lasts at least 12 months without losing its protective and decorative properties. This is provided that the technology is fully followed:

  • the surface is prepared, primed or 2 layers of paint are applied;
  • the work was carried out under the recommended temperature conditions (-45...+60°C), acceptable humidity;
  • there was no exposure to aggressive chemicals and abrasives.

Types of MA paints

There are the following types of MA paint:
