Experts say that in the process of repairing or decorating premises, it is imperative to prime the walls, floors and ceilings. This ensures reliable and durable adhesion of the base to finishing materials. Nowadays, the market offers a huge range of different soils, differing from each other in composition, areas of use and other parameters. The Knauf company produces high-quality priming products, one of the popular ones is the Knauf Grundirmittel primer, which is environmentally friendly and can penetrate deeply into various substrates.
Knauf primer mixtures
This company is one of the leading manufacturers of construction and finishing materials in European countries. The corporation produces various products that have the appropriate certification and are used for finishing indoors and outdoors. Knauf, among other things, also produces various modifications of primers that differ in characteristics and purpose. The main advantages of Knauf soils are the following:
- have full compliance with any finishing products of this company, so there is no need to compare products by composition when treating surfaces;
- low consumption per m2;
- primer mixtures for external work are resistant to temperature changes and also do not allow moisture and water from the atmosphere to pass through;
- excellent air permeability, so a suitable and natural microclimate remains in the building;
- the products are hypoallergenic and do not contain any components harmful to humans;
- soils provide excellent adhesion or adhesion of the treated base to facing materials.
The advantage of Knauf primer
Before you buy a primer, you should understand why it's worth it. This section will be especially relevant for those construction enthusiasts who are encountering soil mixtures for the first time and have no idea what their benefits and practical significance are.
- Firstly, primer of any type and production is extremely dense, which allows you to use the composition very economically.
- In addition, primer mixtures consist of environmentally friendly materials.
- Predominantly, clay, plasticizers and other additives obtained exclusively by natural means are used.
The primer does not have the ability to react with oxygen, releasing harmful vapors. This makes this material absolutely safe for allergy sufferers, pets, and small children. Knauf primer is absolutely picky, but stable.
It fits perfectly with any other building materials from this manufacturer. Also, this mixture perfectly tolerates bad weather, sudden changes in atmospheric parameters, climate, humidity, ultraviolet radiation and other external irritants.
The composition of the primer, as already mentioned, is extremely dense, but this does not mean that it will quickly become covered with mold and fungal growths.
Thanks to its natural composition and the presence of special components added at the production stage, the primer has excellent air permeability. This prevents unpleasant odors from accumulating in the room and creates a favorable microclimate.
Also, one cannot fail to note the excellent adhesion of the primer mixture to the working surface. It happens almost instantly; you don’t need to wait long for the material to dry. This saves a lot of time and makes repair work more productive.
Grundirmittel
This polymer primer mixture contains no solvents and is alkali resistant. Knauf Grundirmittel is used for application on surfaces that quickly absorb moisture, this includes buildings made of foam concrete, brick, aerated concrete, and others.
Areas of use:
- as a base for Knauf gypsum plasters;
- for arranging Knauf self-leveling screeds;
- to improve the adhesion of Knauf or Ceresit tile adhesive before installing facing tiles.
Application:
- before applying Grundirmittel, it must be diluted with water in a ratio of 1 to 2, or 1 to 5;
- Using a fur roller or brush, the mixture is carefully applied to the base;
- Primer stains must be removed as soon as possible. If they are dry, they can be removed with a solvent.
Advantages:
- adhesion of any materials is significantly improved;
- chalk and gypsum surfaces, which easily crumble, are strengthened;
- the absorbent properties of the base are regulated.
Grundirmittel consumption is about 0.2-0.3 liters per 1 square meter.
KNAUF Tiefengrund
This universal acrylic primer mixture is colorless, dries very quickly, and penetrates deeply into walls. The technical characteristics of this product allow it to firmly and reliably strengthen surfaces, as well as normalize the absorbent properties of the material. Tiefengrund does not contain solvents or plasticizers.
Primer characteristics:
- binds dust and loose bases, penetrating deeply into their surface;
- is vapor permeable;
- does not light up;
- has an economical, low consumption per m2, approximately 70-100 grams;
- can be used for external and internal work.
Areas of application:
- processing of cement-fiber and gypsum-fiber boards;
- priming of plasterboard and gypsum surfaces;
- priming gypsum-lime, cement-lime and lime plasters before wallpapering, painting or laying tiles;
- treatment of façade and interior walls, for example, plastered bases before painting.
You can apply the priming liquid with a brush, brush or roller. The temperature of the materials on which the primer is applied should not be less than +5 degrees.
Knauf Oestrichgrund
This mixture, the quality of which is confirmed by the appropriate certificate, is used to reduce the water-absorbing properties of various substrates and improve the adhesion of combined types of seamless floors.
This modification is quite viscous; before application it must be diluted with water in the same proportion. If the material absorbs moisture very quickly, it must be processed twice.
Surface preparation and application:
- Walls, floors or ceilings are cleaned and dried. They should be free of any contamination, such as dust, grease, old paint residues, and others.
- The primer is diluted with water and applied with a brush or roller; puddles or drips should not be allowed to appear.
- After application, approximately one day should pass for the liquid to completely dry and be absorbed. If the room is warm and dry, and if it is periodically ventilated, the drying process will speed up significantly.
Consumption ranges from 50 to 100 g per 1 square meter.

Betokontakt
This modification is an alkali-resistant polymer dispersion, which contains fine-grained quartz sand. Betokontakt is used for priming smooth and porous surfaces that practically do not absorb moisture. A primer is used before puttying or plastering, as well as before gluing gypsum stucco. This soil, in accordance with the technical data sheet, is optimally suited for internal processing of reinforced concrete and very dense concrete structures.
The mixture is applied either by spraying from a spray gun or using a fur roller. The composition is completely ready for use and does not require dilution with water. This priming liquid usually dries in one day, at a temperature of 20 degrees. If the temperature is lower, the drying period will be significantly increased. It is necessary to cover the primed surface with putty or plaster immediately after the soil has dried, so that construction dust does not settle on the concrete. Consumption of the composition is from 250 to 350 grams per 1 square meter.
