When carrying out construction and repair work, I would like to hope that the result will be of high quality and durable. And how attractive the finish will be depends to a large extent on the quality of the preparatory work performed. In particular, from the applied primer layer. Therefore, it is so important to choose the product that best meets all the requirements. In such a situation, you should turn your attention to the FL-03K primer. Its technical characteristics are so good that the product allows you to reliably protect the structure and thereby extend its service life.
Main characteristics
Primer FL-03K has high anti-corrosion properties. It is resistant to various atmospheric conditions (snow, sun, rain, etc.). The product can be used in a wide temperature range (from minus 60 to plus 100 degrees). At the same time, sudden changes are not harmful to the treated surface.
Oil resistant. Not subject to the destructive effects of salts. Due to this, the soil can be used in shipbuilding.
The composition is brown. After application and drying, a homogeneous matte film is formed on the surface. It takes up to 8 hours to dry. The duration depends on the temperature and humidity.
The quality and compliance with the required standards is confirmed by the certificate. The FL-03K primer is approved by the Office of the Federal Service of Rospotrebnadzor. The hygienic certificate issued in St. Petersburg is valid throughout Russia. It confirms that the product is manufactured in accordance with developed GOST standards, and its quality complies with sanitary and epidemiological regulations. The presence of a certificate gives buyers even more confidence in this material and distinguishes it favorably from compositions similar in purpose.
In industrial mass production, there are other methods:
1. Pneumatic or airless spray technologies.
2. Dipping into a bath with a working solution.
3. Jet method.
4. Spraying in an electric field at a temperature of 20±0.5°C using a specialized thinner RE-4V. The fl03k primer is brought to a working viscosity of at least 100 s (according to a VZ-246 type viscometer) for a nozzle diameter of 4 mm. In this case, the required parameters of the solution are obtained: specific volumetric electrical resistance – 1×105÷1×106 Ohm and dielectric constant – 6÷10.
In this case, you should follow the rules that promote high quality coating:
• relative humidity in the room should be no more than 80%;
• temperature range – from 5°С to 30°, ideally – about 20°С;
• the next stage of applying primer - only after the previous layer has completely dried, which takes at least 8 hours.
• recommended thickness of one layer – 15-20 microns
• recommended number of layers – 1-2
For industrial use, it is necessary to comply with the requirements of GOST 9109-81.
Application area
Primer FL-03K (GOST 9109-81) belongs to the epoxy class. It is made on the basis of synthetic resins. The composition also includes special additives that speed up the drying process of the product. All this allows the use of a primer to protect metal products from corrosion. These can be ferrous and non-ferrous metals (copper, aluminum, titanium and their alloys).
The composition can also be used to treat wooden structures, including a variety of lumber panels. Similarly treated surfaces can be further treated with paints (such as FL, PF, AC, and so on).
Areas of use
This composition is epoxy, it is made from various synthetic resins. In addition, it contains special chemical additives, thanks to which the product dries faster. Therefore, soil is most often used to effectively protect various metal structures and products from rust and corrosion. The mixture can process both non-ferrous and ferrous types of metals, including titanium, aluminum, copper, iron, and various alloys. The products can be used to process a variety of wood structures and products, including a variety of lumber and wood-based panels. After the soil has dried, it can be coated with various types of paints and varnishes.
Consumption
Primer FL-03K is applied to the surface to be treated in several layers. Depending on the application method, the thickness of each layer is in the range of 15-20 mm. The thickness is also influenced by the viscosity of the composition (degree of dilution) and the condition of the surface being treated (for rough surfaces the layer is thicker). Taking this into account, the average consumption is 40-55 grams per square meter of treated surface. Thus, up to 30 square meters of structures can be treated with one liter of soil.
Preparatory work
Before use, the FL-03K primer and the surface to be treated must be prepared.
Surface preparation consists of cleaning it from dirt, rust, and remnants of the old coating. After this, it must be degreased. If the surface is wooden, it must be sanded and cleaned of dust.
Preparation of the composition begins only if its temperature is in the range of 15-25 degrees. The FL-03K primer must be thoroughly mixed throughout the entire volume of the container (until a homogeneous mass is obtained). Next, the product must be mixed with a drier (linoleate NF-1). The amount of drier should not exceed 4% of the total volume. The soil is thoroughly mixed. From this moment on, the shelf life of the composition does not exceed 12 hours (at a temperature of plus 20 degrees).
The last step is to add solvent (if necessary).
Properties of FL-03 and FL-03Zh primer coatings
The first two indicators that everyone pays attention to are the color and appearance of the primer film. After application to the surface, phenolic primers form a smooth, uniform matte, semi-matte or semi-gloss coating, for FL-03K - brown, for FL-03Zh - yellow-green.
Please note that the shade of the primer
not standardized. For a primer overlaid with enamel, this does not matter, but if you want to use the primer as a finishing coat (for example, for painting a garage, large metal structure, etc.) and take several containers of primer, it is better to take all containers from one batch or, if possible, mix them before applying the primer. Otherwise, the different shades of the coating may become an unpleasant surprise.
A very important indicator is the drying time of the primer. Primers FL-03Ki FL-03Zh must dry under normal conditions within 8 hours. Hot drying is also provided - at a temperature of 105 ° C for 35 minutes. By the way, about the drying speed of paintwork materials - the longer the drying time, the better the physical, mechanical and protective properties of the formed coating. Therefore, when choosing between faster and slower drying paintwork materials, you are actually choosing between the speed of painting work and quality.
The next group of technical indicators determines the physical and mechanical properties of the coating: film adhesion, film hardness, film elasticity during bending, film strength upon impact.
The primer is the primary layer of complex paintwork; it is responsible, first of all, for adhesion to the substrate (the surface to be painted) and subsequent layers. The strength of such a coupling (adhesion) is assessed in points: 1 point - maximum, 4 points - minimum, practically absent. For primers FL-03K and FL-03, Jadgesia should be 1 point.
Film hardness is measured using a pendulum device. The essence of the method is to determine the time (number of oscillations) during which the amplitude of damped oscillations of a pendulum placed on a paint coating decreases by a given amount. In paintwork with low hardness, the pendulum seems to “get stuck”, quickly loses speed and the number of its oscillations is very small. The harder the coating, the greater the number of oscillations the pendulum will make. We can say that the “Film Hardness” indicator indirectly characterizes the resistance of the coating to abrasion. Primer films FL-03K and FL-03 have a fairly high hardness - no less than 0.3 according to a TML-type pendulum device.
The elasticity of a coating is nothing more than the strength of the coating when bending at a certain angle, which indirectly characterizes its flexibility, i.e. property opposite to fragility. It is measured using a flexibility scale - a set of rods of different diameters. The smaller the radius of the rod, the greater the bending angle, the higher the elasticity of the coating. Coatings FL-03K
and
FL-03Zh
have maximum elasticity - 1 mm (minimum radius).
Impact strength is an indicator that characterizes the resistance exerted by the coating upon penetration of another body, in this case, a striker of a certain shape and weight, falling on a metal plate coated with a primer from a certain height. The greater the height of the striker fall, the greater the impact on the coating. The coating must withstand impact without tearing, creasing or other damage to integrity. Primer coatings FL-03K
and
FL-03Zh
have a maximum impact strength of 50 cm.
And the last group of indicators regulated by GOST 9109-81 is the resistance of the coating to aggressive environments (corrosive agents, solvents, fuels and lubricants). Primer films FL-03K
and
FL-03Zh
provide resistance to industrial oil for 72 hours and to a 3% NaCl solution for 24 hours.
Combination with solvents
Before use, it is allowed to dilute the FL-03K primer to the desired consistency. In this case, it is necessary to ensure that the amount of added solvent is no more than 20% of the total volume of soil.
A mixture of white spirit and xylene is used as a solvent. These substances are combined in equal proportions. It is allowed to use RE-4V type thinner. This option is suitable in cases where the composition is applied by electric spray.
Solvents are also used to clean working tools and containers. It can be xylene or solvent. It is permissible to use a mixture of them with white spirit.

Application of the composition
The use of FL-03K primer is permissible only at ambient temperatures from 5 to 30 degrees and air humidity no more than 85%. In this case, the temperature of the surface itself should be at least 3 degrees above the dew point. In conditions of precipitation, the use of soil is unacceptable.
The primer is applied in several ways:
- Spraying in the absence of air through a nozzle with a diameter of 0.28-0.43 mm. The primer is sprayed from a distance of 30-50 cm from the surface. In this case, the supply pressure of the composition should not be lower than 13 MPa.
- Pneumatic spray.
- Pouring.
- Dipping.
- Roller (brush). This method is suitable in cases where it is necessary to process a small surface area.
The composition is applied in such a way that after drying there are no unpainted places or areas left on the surface, and no sagging. The primer is applied in several layers. Usually 1-2 is enough.
The surface treated with FL-03 primer can be coated with enamels and paints on various bases (oil, alkyd, bitumen, phenolic). When using other formulations, a compatibility test must be carried out first. This applies to materials based on urethane, epoxy and other bases.
For six months after applying the primer, the primed surface may be left to sit without further treatment. If the period is longer, before painting the surface must be cleaned of dirt, grease (oil), etc. If necessary, the base is sanded with an abrasive cloth to provide roughness.
Material properties
Primer FL-03K is a universal paint and varnish material. It can be used in combination with various putties and enamels, and can itself act as a final coating. Very convenient to use. For application, standard tools are used: brushes, rollers, and electric spraying.
The composition is ideal for use outdoors in rural, urban and industrial environments in temperate and tropical climates, as well as in buildings. In combination with finishing enamels, it forms coatings that are resistant to water, oils, gasoline and chemicals. The layer of applied primer FL-03K is characterized by increased adhesion to the base. The resulting film is elastic, also very durable, hard and can be sanded.
Storage and transportation
The FL-03K primer is transported in its original packaging, hermetically sealed. Storage is also allowed only in tightly closed containers. Storage areas should not be exposed to direct sunlight or other sources of high temperatures. The storage area must be dry. The product retains its properties when stored in a temperature range from minus 40 to plus 40 degrees. If all the required conditions are met, the composition can be stored for up to six months.
Pros and cons of using
This type of soil has the following advantages:
- Possibility of application on different types of surfaces - metal and wood.
- Possibility of use in different paint coating systems. It is also permissible to use soil as an independent substance.
- Resistance to the influence of various climatic factors. In addition, the composition can be used indoors and outdoors.
- Formation of a strong and hard film after drying. The coating is resistant to saline solutions and mineral oils. In addition, the coating can be sanded. At the same time, you should not be afraid of salting the skin.
- Resistance to temperature fluctuations. The material can withstand temperatures from -60 to +100 degrees.
- Technological composition. Primer can be applied in different ways.
However, this product also has a number of disadvantages:
- The need to strictly follow the instructions when applying the substance.
- Fire hazard of the mixture.
- The need to comply with security measures.
Safety precautions
As already noted, the composition of the FL-03K primer includes epoxy resins and volatile substances. Therefore, the composition belongs to the class of flammable. This leaves its mark on the conditions of use and working with the soil. When working with the substance, it is necessary to comply with established fire safety rules. At the same time, it is necessary to observe personal safety conditions and work using personal protective equipment (gloves, respirator).
Good ventilation must be provided in the room where work is carried out. If it is absent, provide ventilation. Upon completion of work, the room must be thoroughly ventilated (at least 24 hours).
It is prohibited to work with FL-03K primer near open sources of fire, welding and similar sparking devices. Failure to comply with this point may result in fire and fire.
It should be remembered that the FL-03K primer is absolutely safe in dry form. This means that after the treated surface has completely dried, there is no threat to health and does not have a harmful effect on the body.
