Features of paint PF-115
PF-115 paint belongs to Pentaphtal enamel. Those. to a material that contains alkyd resins and semi-dried oils, which promote rapid drying of the enamel. This type of material is very popular for finishing both interior and exterior spaces. And for any surfaces.
The paint mixes easily with other substances, from analog enamels to primers. Another feature of enamel is its resistance to environmental changes.
The material fits very well on the surface for painting, and almost anything can be used as a tool: rollers, brushes and spray guns.
The latter option is especially good for spraying enamel. The paint dries in about a day.
Enamel is used for painting:
- Internal surfaces of premises;
- Outdoor premises;
- For metal, plastic and wood.
Advantages and disadvantages
Having studied the composition of enamel 115 and technical data, we can highlight the advantages and disadvantages of this material. The first, serious and undeniable advantage is more than affordable prices, which makes alkyd paints an excellent choice for large-scale exterior finishing work.
Due to its composition, the product is resistant to moisture, various aggressive atmospheric influences, ultraviolet radiation, fuels and lubricants and even detergents. Temperature indicators at which this enamel retains its properties and characteristics are from 60 to -50 degrees. In countries with temperate climates, paint remains on the surface for more than 4 years.
Among the disadvantages is the drying time of about 24 hours. Also, not everyone will like the smell. A serious disadvantage is that it is difficult to wash off from hands and painting tools. Many painters prefer to throw away their brushes after working with these paints.
The composition is fire hazardous and toxic. Unlike PS enamels, the surface must be treated and primed before painting.
What determines the consumption rate of PF-115 paint?
As noted above, PF-115 is a universal paint and varnish material. But its consumption depends on many factors. Even the weather, be it sunny or windy, can affect the consumption of enamel.
It is also worth noting that the shade of paint has a direct bearing on its consumption.
- For example, oil enamel is applied in a couple of layers.
- If you make one layer, then all the defects on the painted surface will be visible.
- Therefore, paint in colors such as white, gray and yellow is purchased in large quantities.
- After all, it is completely unknown how much it will be needed.
Important! When using PF-115, you should wait until the first layer of enamel has dried, and then just begin the final work.
Advantages
The advantages include high quality paint and its characteristics:
- loyal price;
- weather resistance;
- moisture resistance;
- long service life;
- wide range of working surfaces;
- adequate consumption per square meter;
- high adhesive ability;
- elastic to expand or contract the painted surface;
- resistance to cracking;
- can be applied with different tools (brushes, rollers, spray guns);
- large color palette.
Preparing for coloring
Before carrying out paint and varnish work, it is worth thoroughly preparing the surface for painting. This is necessary so that the enamel lays down in an even and thin layer, giving the canvas a beautiful appearance.
What to do before painting:
- Free the canvas from dirt and dust. This can be done with a damp cloth;
- Make the surface smooth using putty;
- Treat the canvas with primer.
Advice! In order to reduce enamel consumption, you need to repair all the irregularities in the canvas, making the surface as smooth as possible.
Classification
Depending on the end user, PF-115 is produced for retail and industrial consumption. The first enamels are sold already with a solvent in the composition, the second - without it, and are a maximum concentrate that requires dilution. But even a retail product should be further diluted before painting.
Pentaphthalic enamel comes in “Economy” and “Standard” versions; they differ in price and quality characteristics. It is logical that the Standard version is of higher quality, it withstands atmospheric conditions better, has higher covering qualities (hiding power) and appearance.
How to calculate the consumption of PF-115 paint per 1 m2
Basically, PF-115 has the following consumption: 100/180 g. According to customer reviews, material consumption depends on whether the surface was treated before painting or not.
If the canvas has been prepared for painting with a primer and leveling mixtures, then the approximate consumption of enamel will be 1 kg = 15 m2. And so the amount of enamel will depend entirely on its shade.
- If you take white, then a 1000 gram jar is enough for a room with an area of 7 to 10 square meters. meters.
- A yellow shade of the same volume can be calculated for 5-10 square meters. m.
- Green enamel color is enough for 11-14 square meters. meters of room.
- Blue PF-115 will cope with 12-17 m2.
- Brown enamel weighing 1 kg. Suitable for rooms from 13 to 16 square meters.
- As for the black color, it is enough to paint a room of up to 20 square meters. meters.
Security measures
When painting, wear PPE (personal protective equipment) to protect against the harmful effects of toxic substances on the enamel.
After drying, there is no toxic effect.
It is worth using gloves, a respirator, safety glasses, and a suit. All this is necessary to prevent accidental contact of the composition with the skin or any mucous membranes.
When the enamel comes into contact with the skin, the affected area is treated with a solution based on just soap, slightly warm.
It is important to ensure good ventilation of the room, to provide artificial and natural ventilation:
- artificial - various ventilation systems, hoods;
- natural - open all windows and doors, thereby providing flowing ventilation.
We limit any contact and proximity to sources of fire.
Cost of paint PF-115
PF-115 is considered an inexpensive material for finishing all types of premises. However, the final cost will depend on the manufacturer, place of sale and popularity of the store.
As a rule, small hardware stores stand out for their low prices on paint and varnish materials. In large stores of a certain brand, the price of enamel can be several times higher than in a regular hardware store.
The average price for PF-115 enamel varies from 50 to 100 rubles per 1,000 grams.
Advice! You should not purchase paint if the cost per kilogram is below 40 rubles. Such a low price indicates a low-quality product. The tested material always contains the GOST marking.
How to store PF-115 paint
The PF-115 material contains flammable substances as well as toxic additives. Therefore, paint should be stored in certain places, preferably not in a residential area.
- And away from sunlight and heat sources.
- The ideal temperature for storage is from -50 to +60 C.
- Also, the enamel is stored only under a well-closed lid.
This is necessary so that the paint does not lose its beneficial properties (to avoid drying out) and does not release toxic substances into the space.
GOST
GOST is a state standard that regulates the correct manufacture of products that meet all requirements, standards and technical specifications. In 1976, GOST 6465-76 was created for PF-115 by the Ministry of Chemical Industry, which stipulates all the conditions for production, transportation, storage, guarantees, and quality.
There are other GOSTs that mention the name of the enamel:
- 9980.1 – the rules for acceptance work are prescribed;
- 9980.2 – the order in which samples are taken for analysis is specified;
- 9980.3 – the rules of packaging and labeling are prescribed;
- 12.1.006 – the hazard classes of the constituent components of the enamel are described;
- 12.1.044 – description of fire hazard;
- 12.3.005b, 12.1.004 - a list of requirements, rules for the production, testing, and operation of enamel is prescribed.
Tips from the master
The market offers a huge number of painting tools. And each of them also affects the amount of paint.
If you take brushes, they increase the consumption of enamel by about 2%.
- Rollers do not absorb large amounts of paint and varnish and help distribute the material evenly over the surface.
- As for spray guns, these tools are most recommended by construction workers.
- Since the paint is distributed evenly using the tool, without increasing its consumption.
The surface to be painted also affects paint consumption. If we take the floor, then this surface requires a moderate amount of PF-115.
And the ceiling and walls, on the contrary, increase the consumption of material several times. Because painting this surface causes smudges, increasing paint consumption by up to 7%.
- Other surfaces such as plastic, wood or metal also have different enamel consumption.
- The wooden canvas has an uneven and loose structure, so it will absorb paint to the maximum.
- Before painting, a metal product must be thoroughly treated with anti-corrosion substances.
- This will not only reduce the consumption of PF-115, but will also reliably protect the blade for further use.
The plastic has a flat and smooth surface, which gives the advantage of using as little paint as possible to paint this canvas.
Case Study
There is a fence, the length of which is ten meters, the width is up to one and a half meters. Material – galvanized corrugated sheet. The total area in this case will be thirty squares. Fifteen on one side and exactly the same on the other. That is, in order to carry out uniform coloring, you will need two full cans of material each weighing one kilogram for one side. For double-sided painting, you need twice as much material, that is, four cans.
There is such a thing as inevitable losses. During work, paint will accumulate on the brushes and remain in the container. Even with very careful execution, drops on the ground cannot be avoided. When applying paint to walls or ceilings, consider the overall loss of material. They are within seven percent of the total.
