Features of choosing enamel for marking

The composition of the paint and varnish material for marking will determine the conditions of its use.

  • Climatic features of the region.
  • Traffic intensity. On highways, wear-resistant materials are needed for marking. Two-component formulations are suitable.
  • physico-chemical features of asphalt pavement.

Acrylic

Acrylic paint is available in a concentrated state, so it must be diluted with water to the desired thickness. It is easy to use and can be sold ready-made, in aerosol form.

Acrylic-based paints can be applied using any method, often using aerosol spraying. Such compositions can be applied not only to asphalt, but also to oil-bitumen and concrete road surfaces.

It is necessary to work with water-dispersed compounds in warm and dry weather, since if it gets wet immediately after application, the dye can be washed off from the road surface.

The polyacrylic mixture hardens half an hour after painting.

Alkyd

Alkyd dyes have a rubber base. They appeared relatively recently. They have high adhesive properties and increased wear resistance. They perform well on high-speed highways. Consumption per 1 m2 may vary for different types of coatings. This paint cannot be applied using the aerosol method.

Other enamels, in which reflective powder is mixed, can be used on less busy roads and where road markings have already been painted.

Use on busy roads is not recommended, since the distribution of luminous particles in them is uneven.

Two-component

These are innovative enamels. Their production is carried out using modern technologies. The composition does not include a solvent, and the concentration of reflective pigment is much higher than that of other compositions.

Such paints have high strength and adhesive characteristics. The applied markings are not damaged even by snow removal equipment. Two-component enamels can be used on any type of coating.

To apply them, you can use both classic aerosols and complex special drawing equipment. The mixture consumption does not exceed 0.5 kg per m2. Airfield markings can be applied.

Application technologies

Road markings are applied using two methods, the choice of which depends on the physical state of the paint being applied.

  1. Cold state. This application technology is used when working with enamels or dyes based on natural solvents, cold plastics, and water-dispersed coloring compositions. This method applies markings to areas with a lot of surface wear, for example, at pedestrian crossings. The service life of the marking is about two years. When traffic is heavier, the hot paint application method is used.
  2. Thermoplastics and thermoplastic yellow tapes are hot Work is carried out at ambient temperatures from +5 to +35°C.

AK-511 paint for road markings, black

AK-511 enamel is a suspension of light- and weather-resistant and color pigments, fillers and special additives in a solution of German-made acrylic resin, which has significantly improved the quality of the produced enamel, adhesion and weather resistance, wear resistance and durability, long-term water resistance, oil and gasoline resistance.

Purpose:

The material is used for applying marking lines on the roadways of highways, airfield runways, with asphalt, concrete or asphalt concrete surfaces, ensuring the operation of the marking layer coating both during the day and at night.

Peculiarities:

  • the material has high light resistance (preservation of whiteness under UV irradiation);
  • has high impact strength;
  • the solution has high hardness;
  • has high abrasion resistance.

Mode of application:

Mix thoroughly and, if necessary, dilute to a working viscosity, which is selected by the consumer depending on the method of application and the condition of the road surface. Thinners - toluene, xylene, butyl acetate or solvent R-4 in an amount of at least 10% of AK-511 enamel.

It can be applied using all known methods: with road marking machines, as well as with a paint sprayer or manually with a brush or roller using a stencil.

Markings should be applied in dry weather on a dry road surface cleared of dirt and dust at a steady air temperature of +5 to +40 C and a relative air humidity of no more than 75%. Applying enamel for road markings at temperatures below +5 0C reduces wear resistance.

It is not allowed to apply enamel to an unprepared coating. To achieve optimal service life of markings on roads with heavy traffic at pedestrian crossings, stop lines, arrows, the thickness of the wet film should be at least 600 microns, dry 400 microns, and on roads with less intense traffic the thickness wet film – 400 microns, dry – 250 microns.

Paint consumption is 0.9 and 0.6 kg/m2, respectively.

To enhance the effect of reverse reflection, glass beads with a diameter of 100 to 600 microns at a rate of 350-400 g/m2 must be sprayed onto freshly applied enamel no later than 5 seconds.

The marking equipment is washed with R-4 solvent.

Precautionary measures:

Do not work near open fire sources.

Work should be carried out with good ventilation, wearing rubber gloves, using personal protective equipment.

The guaranteed shelf life of the enamel is 9 months from the date of manufacture.
