Tile adhesive Ceresit CM 14 Extra water- and frost-resistant 25 kg

Application area

Tile adhesive Ceresit SM 14 is used for quick gluing of ceramic and stone tiles with a moisture absorption of 3% on flat surfaces (floors and walls), indoors and outdoors.

Ceresit SM 14 adhesive is used for repairing cladding, with short deadlines for delivery of the object, in conditions of low temperatures (not lower than +5°C).

When combined with elasticizer CC 83, CM 14 can be used for mineral tiles:

  • on durable paint coatings;
  • on gypsum and anhydrite bases;
  • on young concrete;
  • on stone and ceramic cladding;
  • on difficult surfaces (chipboard, plasterboard);
  • on heated floors;
  • on the plinth, parapet, staircase, floor of balconies and terraces;
  • in tanks and pools;

Rules for working with the composition

When working with Ceresit SM 14, it is necessary to take into account the requirements for the base; it must comply with SNiP3.04.01–87. In this case, load-bearing capacities are taken into account. If the work is carried out on cement-sand masonry, then its age should not be less than 28 days from the moment of pouring. The concrete base must be three months old.

Execution of work:

  • Preparing the base. If visible defects are observed, corrections are made with the same composition one day before the main work. Next, dust formations are removed and priming is carried out with the material of the same TM.
  • Preparation of the solution. The solution is prepared from a dry mixture with purified water at room temperature. When adding the mixture to the water, constant stirring is carried out manually, with a drill with an attachment or a mixer. Afterwards, the solution is left for five minutes to swell and activate its basic properties. Mixing is done again.
  • Applying an adhesive layer. To evenly distribute the adhesive layer, the mass is applied with a smooth spatula, then milled with a comb. The comb teeth must match the size of the facing material. For exterior work, a combined method of applying glue is used.

Useful video on the topic:

The tiles are not soaked before installation.

Recommendations:

  • make adjustments within 20 minutes;
  • avoid laying tiles end to end;
  • the seams are rubbed down 16 hours after the main work;
  • the grouting material is taken with the same TM as the adhesive base;
  • if the cladding was carried out using a “warm floor” system, then heating is turned on no earlier than after three days;
  • work is carried out using IZ tools.

Execution of work

Pre-soaking of the tiles is not required. Apply the mortar to the surface using the flat side of a notched trowel, then remove excess mortar with the notched side of the trowel (the teeth of the trowel are selected depending on the size of the tile). The adjustment is made within 15 minutes after applying the solution to the base.

When using tile adhesive Ceresit SM 14 for exterior work or gluing large-format tiles made of natural stone, for reliability it is recommended to also apply the solution to the work surface.

It is not recommended to lay tiles in joints. The width of the seam is determined by the size of the tile and operating conditions.

Ceresit SM 14 adhesive allows you to glue tiles to the surface without using crosses, due to its high fixing ability.

Characteristics

Dry mixture Ceresit CM 14 is packaged in paper bags of 25 kg.

An adhesive mixture is produced based on cement, mineral additives, and polymer-based modifiers. To prepare the solution, dilution with purified water is required in the amount of 6–6.5 liters for all 25 kg of dry adhesive component.

The prepared solution must be used within two hours, otherwise it will begin to harden and lose its basic properties. Therefore, when covering large areas, it is advisable to knead several times.

Work should be carried out at an ambient temperature of 5–30 degrees. The optimal temperature is maintained until the adhesive layer dries completely. Operation is permissible at temperatures -30 – +70 degrees.

When laying, it is taken into account that the adjustment time to correct defects does not exceed 20 minutes.

Ceresit CM 9

SM 9 glue is the weakest among all Ceresit cement-based options. It is moisture resistant, but has reduced frost resistance, adhesion and solution life, and hardens 2 times longer. It can be used to lay glazed tiles and terracotta up to 30x30 cm in size on a concrete base on floors and walls inside buildings. It can also be used for brickwork.

Types and technical characteristics

For tile work, the SM series of adhesives from Ceresit is used. Most products are sold in 25 kg packs, some are also sold in small packs of 10 kg.

Ceresit CM 9

This material is one of the most inexpensive among analogues; it has an average degree of adhesion to the surface. Used for gluing tiles, glazed tiles, terracotta up to 30*30 cm in size on floors and walls. Ceresit CM9 adhesive has sufficient moisture resistance, so it can be used in damp rooms.

Thanks to polymers and mineral components, the product will reliably hold the brickwork and can become a substitute for standard cement mortar. It cannot be used for outdoor work; it has low frost resistance. The adhesive works best on concrete bases; it can also be applied to cement-lime, cement-sand plasters that have been cured for at least 28 days.

Technical characteristics of SM 9:

  • packaging – 25 kg bags;
  • density of the dry mixture – 1.4 kg/cu. dm;
  • tile sliding – up to 0.1 mm;
  • adhesion – 0.5 MPa;
  • temperatures during work – +5…+30 degrees, operation – 0…+70 degrees;
  • humidity during work – up to 60%;
  • solution viability – 2 hours;
  • tile adjustment time - 10 minutes;
  • Grouting period is 2 days.

Material consumption per 1 sq. m depends on the size of the tile and the trowel tooth, it can be 2-4.2 kg/sq. m.

Ceresit CM 11 Plus

The composition of Ceresit CM 11 Plus is considered classic; it is most often used for laying tiles and porcelain stoneware in exterior and interior work. The adhesive includes a number of minerals and modifying additives that provide a high degree of adhesion to various non-deformable substrates:

  • concrete;
  • cement coatings;
  • cement-lime screeds;
  • brickwork, etc.

CM 11 adhesive is suitable for gluing any type of tile, except marble, smaller than 50*50 cm on floors and walls outside, inside buildings. It can also be used for laying porcelain tiles for interior work. By adding a special elasticizer CC 83, the product can be used for the installation of waterproofing coatings, heated floors, plinths, external stairs and various deformable bases - plasterboard, chipboard. In addition, the introduction of an elasticizer helps improve the properties of the adhesive and its use for gypsum, cellular concrete, and paint coatings.

The characteristics of CM11 glue are as follows:

  • consumption 1 m2 – 1.7-55 kg/sq. m (depending on the size of the tiles, trowel teeth);
  • solution viability – 2 hours;
  • adjustment time – 20 minutes;
  • tiles are ready for grouting – 72 hours;
  • tile sliding – up to 0.5 mm;
  • adhesion – 1 MPa;
  • temperature of application of the solution – +5...+30 degrees, operation – -50...+70 degrees.

The glue is frost-resistant - it can easily withstand 100 freezing/thawing cycles. The product is also considered waterproof and can be applied to the walls and bottom of pools (after introducing an elasticizer).

Ceresit CM 12

Ceresit SM 12 Porcelain Glue is a specialized composition for attaching large-format floor tiles. It reliably holds slabs up to 60*60 cm in size, and is only suitable for non-deformable bases - concrete, cement screed. In wet rooms, the composition can be applied together with CR 65 waterproofing. The product has a plastic texture, prevents the appearance of voids under the tiles, and has a high degree of adhesion to the base. CM12 adhesive is only suitable for interior use.

After the introduction of the SS83 elasticizer, the range of operation of the composition is seriously expanded. It can be used on the following surfaces:

  • heated screeds;
  • old tile cladding;
  • concrete one month old (“young concrete”);
  • gypsum, anhydrite screeds;
  • OSB boards, plasterboard, chipboard.

The product has low frost resistance - up to -30 degrees, therefore it is not used in freezing rooms or outside buildings. The time for adjusting tiles when applying CM 12 has been increased to 30 minutes, the viability of the solution is 2 hours. Other characteristics:

  • tile sliding – up to 0.5 mm;
  • period before grouting – 48 hours;
  • adhesion – 1 MPa.

The material consumption calculator also depends on the size of the slabs. If the size of individual elements does not exceed 30*30 cm, about 4.2 kg/sq.m. is spent. m glue. Laying 60*60 cm tiles will require about 6 kg of mixture/sq. m.

Ceresit CM 14 Extra

The product marked “Extra” is frost-resistant, moisture-resistant, does not allow the tiles to slip, and is perfectly compatible with underfloor heating systems and waterproofing. How to calculate consumption yourself?

If you suddenly, for some reason, do not want to use our calculator :), you can calculate the consumption yourself. This is not at all difficult, as it might seem at first glance. What you need to know for this:

  • the thickness of the layer you plan to apply (only for dry mixes);
  • surface area;
  • manufacturer's instructions;

And it's all. Then, we find in the instructions or on the manufacturer’s website in the characteristics table the line where “consumption” is indicated, multiply this indicator by the layer thickness, and then by the area.

How to calculate flow rate with a slope (difference)?

The question often arises of how to calculate the material consumption on a surface with a slope if the layer thickness is uneven. As a rule, this question concerns when calculating a self-leveling floor, screed or plaster or putty. In this case, it is most convenient to take the “average” layer thickness. For example, there is a difference from 30 to 50 mm, what thickness should be considered as the calculated thickness? To do this, add 30 + 50 and divide by 2 and get 40 mm (30+50)/2 = 40 mm, this will be the calculated layer thickness, which must be entered into the calculator on stroykalkulyator.ru to calculate the consumption.

Ceresit CM 12

Special Ceresit adhesive for porcelain stoneware and tiles up to 60x60 cm in size - CM 12. It is suitable only for interior work on non-deformable substrates (frost resistance up to −30 degrees). When adding elasticizer СС 83, it can be used for laying on warm floors, outdoors, unstable bases (chipboard, OSB, plasterboard, fresh screed more than 1 month old).

For convenient work with large-format tiles, the mixture has a fluid, plastic consistency. This allows you to apply glue only to the mounting base of the tiles; it is not necessary to go through the floor with glue “to tear off”.

Adhesive for porcelain tiles Ceresit CM 14 Extra (Ceresit CM 11 Extra)

DESCRIPTION: Fast-hardening for facing with ceramic tiles and artificial stone tiles inside and outside buildings.

PROPERTIES - jointing - after 3 hours - high adhesion to the base - resistant to sliding from vertical surfaces - frost-resistant - waterproof

FIELD OF APPLICATION The fast-hardening adhesive mixture Ceresit CM 14 is intended for cladding concrete, brick, cement-sand and cement-lime surfaces with ceramic and artificial stone tiles no larger than 30 x 30 cm in size. The Ceresit CM 14 mixture is used on durable, non-deformable bases on walls and floors inside and outside buildings in residential, civil and industrial construction. Due to the rapid development of strength, the mortar mixture is especially convenient for accelerated cladding. Irreplaceable when performing cladding work in corridors, passages and other rooms. When facing deformable bases, it is necessary to use Ceresit CM 17 or Ceresit CM 14 mixtures with the addition of Ceresit CC 83 emulsion. For laying marble tiles and other tiles made from light-colored natural stones, it is recommended to use Ceresit CM 115 mixture.

PREPARATION OF THE BASE Preparation of the base is carried out in accordance with SNiP 3.04.01-87 and DBN V.2.6-22-2001. The base must be dry and strong, without visible damage. Before using the mixture, the base should be cleaned of dust, sagging, oil stains and other substances that reduce the adhesion of the solution to the base. All unevenness and weak areas of the base should be removed, and then the corresponding places should be leveled with Ceresit CM 14 mixture. Wall unevenness up to 20 mm should be leveled with Ceresit CT 29 mortar mixture in one go, and over 20 mm - in two or more layers. Gypsum bases and bases with high water absorption (hygroscopicity) should be pre-primed with Ceresit CT 17 primer. Floor bases with large unevenness must be leveled with Ceresit CN group materials within 24 hours.

PERFORMANCE OF WORK Mix the dry mixture with clean water (water temperature from +15 °C to +20 °C) at the rate of 0.26–0.28 liters of water per 1 kg of dry mixture and mix until a homogeneous mass without lumps is obtained using low speed drills with attachments or mixers. Then let the mortar mixture stand for 2 minutes, then mix again. The use of the mortar mixture is possible for 30 minutes. Apply the prepared mortar mixture to the surface to be tiled in a thin layer using a spatula, spatula or trowel and level with a notched trowel or trowel. Place the tiles on the applied mortar mixture and press down. Do not pre-wet the tiles! The maximum thickness of the mortar mixture under the tiles should not exceed 10 mm. The teeth must be square and correspond to the size of the tiles (for example, for tiles of 15 x 15 cm, the width and depth of the tooth should be 6 mm, for tiles of 30 x 30 cm - 10 mm). It is not recommended to lay tiles end-to-end, without a seam. The width of the seam between the tiles should not be less than 2 mm. Installing spacers between the tiles to ensure the same joint width is not required, since the tiles laid on the walls do not slip. Under normal climatic conditions (temperature +20 ± 2 °C and relative humidity 55 ± 5%), the tiles must be laid no later than 10 minutes after applying the mortar mixture to the base. In summer and windy weather when performing outdoor work, installation time is reduced to 5 minutes. Within 10 minutes after laying the tile on the base, you can adjust its position. Remains of the mortar mixture must be removed with water before it hardens. Under normal conditions, jointing should be done after 3 hours. To fill joints, materials from the Ceresit CE group should be used.

NOTES Work should be carried out at a substrate temperature of +5 °C to +30 °C. All of the above recommendations are effective at a temperature of +20 ± 2 °C and a relative air humidity of 55 ± 5%. Under other conditions, the debarking, setting and hardening time of the mortar mixture may vary. The Ceresit CM 14 mixture contains cement and when interacting with water gives an alkaline reaction, therefore it is necessary to protect your eyes and skin when working. If the solution mixture gets into your eyes, rinse them immediately with water and seek medical help.

RECOMMENDATIONS When tiling floors and hygroscopic substrates, the optimal amount of water is 7 liters per 25 kg of adhesive mixture. On foundations with expansion joints, the latter must be duplicated in the cladding, followed by sealing the joints with elastic sealants. When performing external work, a combined method is used to fix tiles: the mortar mixture is applied to the base with a thickness corresponding to the size of the float tooth, and to the tiles up to 1 mm thick, evenly over the entire surface. To fasten tiles on substrates not specified in this technical description, other mixtures or mastics of the Ceresit CM or Ceresit CU groups should be used. In addition to the above information on the use of Ceresit CM 14, you must be guided by the current regulatory documentation. If the material is used under conditions not covered in this technical description, you should conduct tests yourself or seek advice from the manufacturer.

STORAGE In original sealed packaging in dry rooms 12 months from the date of manufacture indicated on the package.

DISPOSAL Dispose of product residues as construction waste. Dispose of packaging as household waste.

Universal adhesive Ceresit CM 14 Extra (reinforced with Fiber Force microfibers)

Preparing the base:

The foundation must meet the requirements of SP71.13330.2017 and have sufficient load-bearing capacity. Clean the base from dust, grease, bitumen and other contaminants. Weak areas and peelings should be removed. Irregularities up to 5 mm can be leveled with the same adhesive mixture at least 1 day before fixing the tiles. Unevenness greater than 5 mm should be leveled with a suitable Ceresit plaster or flooring mixture. Cement and cement-lime plasters, cement screeds (age ≥ 28 days, humidity ≤ 4%), concrete (age ≥ 3 months, humidity ≤ 4%) - in the presence of high absorbency or a weakened surface layer, treat with ST 17 primer. On walls, smooth, dense bases, for example, made of monolithic concrete, are recommended to be treated with CT 19 Betonkontakt primer. Waterproofing coatings made from CR 65 mixture must be aged from 3 to 7 days

Execution of work:

To prepare the mixture, take a measured amount of clean water at a temperature of +15 to +20°C (or elasticizer CC 83 diluted with water - see the table for proportions). The dry mixture is gradually added to the liquid while stirring, achieving a homogeneous mass without lumps. Mixing is done with a mixer or drill with an attachment at a rotation speed of 400–800 rpm. Then a technological pause is maintained for about 5 minutes to allow the mixture to mature and mix again. The glue is applied to the base with a smooth trowel and the comb structure is profiled with a notched trowel. The size of the teeth is selected depending on the size of the tiles (see table). For exterior work and when fastening large tiles, it is recommended to additionally apply a thin continuous layer of adhesive to the mounting surface of the tiles (“combined fastening method”). Do not soak the tiles! The tiles are laid on the glue and pressed no later than 15 minutes after its application. The position of the tiles can be adjusted within 20 (25*) minutes after installation. The adhesive contact area after pressing the tiles must be at least 65% on walls and 80% on floors. You cannot lay tiles end to end! The width of the joints is set depending on the size of the tiles and operating conditions. It is recommended to fill cladding seams with grout

Recommendations:

Work should be carried out in dry conditions, at air and base temperatures from +5 to +30°C and relative air humidity not exceeding 80%. When installing cladding on heated screeds, the heating must be turned off no less than 48 hours before the start of work and turned on no earlier than 72 hours after completion.

Shelf life:

In dry conditions, on pallets, in original undamaged paper packaging - no more than 12 months from the date of manufacture, in foil packaging no more than 18 months from the date of manufacture
