Sealant Abro 9-AB-R gray OEM 999: description, application, price

Every vehicle owner, at least once in his life, has probably encountered repairs to the engine, gearbox, engine cooling system or other mechanisms. All those that use liquid for proper operation. And it needs tightness. To improve it when installing gaskets, car service mechanics advise using Abro 9-AB-R gray “OEM 999” sealant.

Product Description

Silicone gasket sealant OEM-999 gray Abro 9-ab-r is a synthetic lubricant based on silicone, double butanone, calcium carbonate, silicon, propylamine and triple aminopropyltriethoxysilane. The main purpose is the repair and restoration of engine gaskets produced by Japanese automakers.

It was developed and created at the request of Asian companies engaged in the repair and assembly of automobile engines. For their high-quality work and tightness. Country of origin: USA.

The versatility of the product allows it to be used in other engines from the world's most famous manufacturers from Europe, America and Asia.

Good consistency, properly selected additives and impurities allow the sealant to repair any engine gaskets.

Abro 9-AB-R can be used as a replacement and used without a gasket. It is well suited for sealing engine crankcase covers, water cooling systems, water pump areas, thermostat housings, in the engine exhaust system, and intake manifold assembly. In addition, it can be used directly as a sealant for engine oil pans.

The chemical consistency is based in such a way that the sealant does not collapse in any way when exposed to any automobile oils or coolant fluids (antifreeze, antifreeze), even if these temperatures reach extremely high or negative temperatures.

Unfortunately, Abro sealant cannot be used in the fuel system, since the effect of gasoline and its components on it has destructive properties.

In addition, manufacturers do not recommend using the product to replace the sealing gaskets between the cylinder head and the engine cylinder block itself.

Types of Abro sealants by composition and curing

Greek products of the Abro brand are classified as follows (according to composition and curing properties).

1. High-temperature sealant that can withstand temperatures of about +371C, and also has a tensile strength of 14.55 kg/cm2

The product itself is red in color, which is explained by the presence of a finely dispersed base pigment, but at the same time there is no metal in the composition. This also explains the excellent electrical insulation characteristics.

This type of product is characterized by the absence of acids in its composition and does not produce harmful elements when exposed to temperature. It should be noted that this sealant is not suitable for surfaces that come into contact with gasoline.

Other features include: no change in shape due to vibration, pulsation, withstanding destruction, the product dries in about 24 hours, and after polymerization a fairly smooth seam is formed.

It should be noted that the thickness of the gasket during operation should be up to 6 mm.

2. Acid silicone sealants from Abro. When working with this product, acetic acid is formed as a by-product that is part of the material. When applying the sealant, a sour, pungent odor of acid is clearly visible. That is why the price of such sealants is not high, and when working with gaskets, they are the most popular in the field of auto repair.

Main technical characteristics of acidic silicone sealants: universal curing speed (up to 24 hours), use at temperatures up to +260 C, ease of use, significant level of adhesion to substrates.

However, it should be noted that in some cases these products can cause corrosion, so care must be taken when working with metal-based materials.

It is better to use such sealing agents when working with plastic.

3. Neutral silicone sealants The composition does not contain acids, thus they do not react with metal and therefore they can be used when working with iron and various types of alloys. You can work with such products at temperatures up to 260 C, and some up to +343 C (which contain copper dust).

Silicone-based products are compatible with various types of technical fluids, are odorless and have good adhesion to various surfaces.

4. Sealants 1100 and 1200 series. Such materials have similar properties. They differ in temperature operation within the range of 50- + 200 C. They are used for both external and internal work.

They can be used to create gaskets, form insulation, and create seams in rubber, wood, metal, ceramic and other materials.

Sealing materials contain an antifungal and antiseptic base, which prevents the development and spread of microorganisms and mold.

Such sealants are waterproof, stable against vibration, deformation, and when subject to tension of 25%, the seam will remain flexible. The Abro brand range is available in black, white and transparent colors.

Application

To correctly apply Abro 9-AB-R gray sealant, you must first disassemble the unit for which it is going to be used. It is advisable to remove all parts, fragments and parts of the old unnecessary gasket. At the same time, it is very important to do all this carefully, do not damage or scratch metal surfaces. It is also necessary to remove all excess dirt, dust, grease and oil traces from the parts.

Having picked up a can of sealant, you need to shake it thoroughly and shake it. This is done for 10 to 30 seconds so that all the liquid inside is thoroughly mixed.

The cylinder is held relative to the surface being treated at a certain angle, approximately equal to 45 degrees cm. Abro OEM 999 Gasket Maker sealant is applied slowly, along the entire perimeter of the part, while maintaining a layer thickness of 2 to 3 millimeters.

To ensure that the mixture adheres well, you must wait and let it dry for about 10 minutes before assembling the unit.

The part is applied and strongly compressed, while all the fastening bolts holding it are tightened, evenly, without jerking or over-tightening. After the work has been done, you need to take a dry cloth and remove excess (squeezed out when tightening the fastening bolts) sealant from the parts.

The minimum time for gluing one part to another until the finished sealed structure is about one hour. It takes a day for the sealant gasket to completely dry, provided that its thickness is 0.3 centimeters.

How to remove ABRO sealant?

Removal of uncured ABRO sealant is carried out using standard methods and does not cause any difficulties.
To do this, you can use a regular dry or alcohol-soaked cloth. If the composition has frozen, then it will have to be removed mechanically - with a blade, spatula, sandpaper or other tools. This is a rather labor-intensive process. To make it as easy as possible, you can resort to another product from the company’s range.

ABRO sealant and silicone gasket remover is available in aerosol cans. It also perfectly removes various adhesives, dried oils, paints, varnishes, greases, and adhesives.

To use the composition, you need to spray it on the surface and leave for 5-10 minutes. After this, the hardened sealant can be easily removed with a spatula.

Advantages and disadvantages

All products manufactured in one area or another have their positive and negative qualities. Silicone gasket sealant Abro gray “OEM 999” has the following advantages:

  • able to withstand high operating temperatures, up to +343 degrees Celsius;
  • an absolutely safe product for any sensor, for example a lambda probe and others;
  • it is not destroyed by automotive fluids such as motor oil, antifreeze, antifreeze and water;
  • not subject to corrosion;
  • environmentally friendly and odorless;
  • neutral base.

With such positive qualities, there is one negative, which is a disadvantage. Unfortunately, it is not resistant to gasoline.

Precautionary measures

When working with automotive sealants, the following precautions must be observed:

  • Since some sealants can release acetic acid when drying, therefore, when working, use PPE - gloves, goggles, a mask. If the product gets on an open area of skin or on the mucous membrane of the eye, rinse immediately with running water. If irritation occurs, it is better to consult a doctor.
  • The process is carried out in a well-ventilated area.
  • After using the product, close the tube tightly and place it out of the reach of children.

Types of Abro by color

Abro brand sealants are classified by color depending on their composition. This is also convenient for choosing a specific sealant.

Red seal - the gasket comes in the following weight categories: 42.5,85,226, 310 g, respectively, is red.

It belongs to the class of highly labile, as it can withstand about + 371 C. I use this product mainly for gaskets on various valves, manifolds, pumps, thermostat and gear units.

The range of applications also includes the formation of automatic transmissions, repair of pallets, sensors and repair of connection elements when heated. The material is used to add strength to existing rubber, cork, and felt gaskets.

The advantages of the product include the absence of harm to oxygen sensors (used to restore them), safety to absolutely any materials.

The black sealant is similar in application to the red one, as it is high-temperature, withstanding about +343 C due to the presence of silicon in its composition, but has a lower tensile density (up to 16.87 kg/cm2). The composition is neutral and safe for all surfaces.

The advantages include maximum elasticity and scope of application (for the rapid formation and replacement of all machine gaskets).

The resulting seams are resistant to various types of deformation, will not deteriorate over time, and will not be damaged by antifreeze, motor and transmission oils.

It is not corrosive to metals, so it is perfect for thermostatic units and pumps that contain metal.

Multi-purpose transparent silicone sealant. From the name it is obvious that it has a colorless composition. It is characterized by an acid base, does not contain any pigments or additives, and belongs to the medium-temperature class (that is, stable at temperatures up to +260C).

The main properties of transparent sealant: high tensile strength, resistance to oils and technical liquids.

It is used to seal cork, felt, rubber gaskets, and in addition can replace any sanitary household or automotive sealant.

Capable of forcing a fairly elastic gasket up to 6 mm thick, which can withstand all types of deformation and shifts.

Gray silicone sealant has very high elasticity, its strength limit is about 16.87 kg/cm2. The composition is neutral, does not produce acidic vapors when solidified, and does not adversely affect lambda probes or other sensors.

Well suited for all car brands, despite the fact that it was originally used to create gaskets in Japanese cars.

This sealant can only be destroyed when exposed to gasoline, but is very stable against exposure to other automotive fluids.

White sealant belongs to the class of quickly hardening products. Since it is based on titanium and silicon dioxide, the product reaches temperatures up to +260C.

This type of sealant is resistant to water, antifreeze, and gear oil. During the polymerization reaction, it forms an elastic and very simple gasket of a certain shape, replacing a bad seal.

This product does not deform, remains exactly where it is applied and does not crack for a long time.

Blue sealant has an acidic type of hardening. The polymerization reaction produces acetic acid vapor.

For this reason, they should be used in a well-ventilated area, or better yet, in the open air. This product is stable when heated to +260 C, when frozen to –42 C, the tensile strength corresponds to 16.87 kg/cm2.

This type of sealant is used to seal joints and components of machines, and is used to form pump gaskets, thermostats and other parts.
