Transparent glue moment crystal - characteristics, instructions for use, how to clean it

Glue composition

The composition includes the following components:

  • acetone;
  • resins;
  • ethyl acetate;
  • anti-eraser;
  • aliphatic, petroleum hydrocarbons;
  • chemical state stabilizers. substances;
  • ethyl acetic acid ester.

The combination of the listed components is ensured by the characteristics of the adhesive, which make it possible to glue parts of different materials.

The pungent odor is due to the presence of acetone and other thinners in the adhesive.

The components are harmful to human health, so it is necessary to work in accordance with safety rules - in a well-ventilated area, wearing a protective mask and gloves. Despite the composition, the substance is considered safe and complies with regulations and environmental standards.

Previously, the solvent toluene will be included in the composition. But since 1998 the component has been excluded. Despite this, counterfeit adhesives that contain toluene are still sold.

The glue can rightfully be considered universal, as surfaces with different structures can be glued together.

Precautionary measures

The glue is flammable, so the following safety precautions should be observed when working with it:

  • do not open the packaging near any sources of fire,
  • do not apply glue to products located near sources of elevated temperature,
  • Do not apply glue to heated surfaces.

All actions with “Moment” are carried out only in a ventilated room (hoods or through ventilation are used). When working for a long time, even with forced ventilation, you need to wear a respirator! You should work in special clothing and gloves. If glue gets on your hands or other exposed skin, you should immediately wash them with plenty of soap and water. If the product gets into the eyes or other mucous membranes, it is important to rinse them and immediately seek medical help.

Properties and characteristics of “Moment Crystal”

The polymerized adhesive joint has the highest strength. The adhesion force between the materials is also high. The area of application of the glue is very wide, which is achieved by color - the glue is transparent.

Specifications:

  • Operating temperature – 15-30 °C above zero. The temperature during gluing may be different, but then the hardening time of the seam also changes. When t °C increases, polymerization accelerates; when it decreases, on the contrary, it slows down.
  • The temperature for using dried joints is from -35 to + 75 °C.
  • The glue is frost-resistant. Can be completely frozen and defrosted several times. The characteristics after defrosting do not differ from the original ones.
  • Approximately 200-400 g of substance is consumed per 1 m2. The number is individual and may vary depending on the type of base and the purpose of gluing.
  • The glue is moisture resistant, the properties do not change even with the direct influence of water on the mixture.
  • The optimal density value is 0.88 g/cm3.
  • Other qualities include resistance to UV rays, alkalis and acids.

It is not recommended to greatly exceed or lower the temperature at which the glue hardens. The characteristics of the finished seam may undergo changes and may not correspond to those declared by the manufacturer.

Glue storage

The product should only be stored in its original packaging, tightly closed. The storage location should be located out of the reach of children, animals, sunlight and away from possible heating. It is desirable that the temperature is not lower than room temperature, but freezing the glue is also allowed (after defrosting it will retain its properties). Temperature standards for storage are from -20 to +30 degrees, period is up to 2 years.

It is forbidden to throw used Moment packaging into the fire! It is disposed of along with household waste. If all recommendations are followed, the glue does not pose a danger to human life or health.

Scope of application

The instructions for use state that the main purpose of the glue is to glue porcelain, ceramic, glass surfaces, as well as organic glass, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and foam plastic (polystyrene, expanded polystyrene). Waterproof properties have made it possible to use Crystal glue as a mixture for shoe repair. The hardened layer is resistant to water and other atmospheric conditions.

Other supported materials include:

  • wooden;
  • leather;
  • rubber;
  • paper and cardboard;
  • foam;
  • iron.

Thanks to its extensive use, the glue is rightly called universal. It is used at home for household repairs, and in professional activities (shoe repair, etc.).

Peculiarities

Moment Crystal universal adhesive is a transparent and waterproof composition that can be used to make reliable and durable connections between materials of different origins.
It perfectly glues wood, metal, rubber, porcelain and other types of surfaces, providing the joint with incredible strength. This glue is also applicable to various types of fabric, since it leaves absolutely no marks, stains or other defects on the surfaces treated with it.

Modern manufacturers produce Moment Crystal glue in a metal tube, the volume of which is 30 ml and 125 ml.

Crystal glue is transparent and demonstrates high resistance to high humidity and does not change its parameters with small changes in ambient temperature, which makes the “Moment Crystal” composition extremely popular in the domestic market. This is confirmed by numerous positive reviews from experienced builders and those buyers who prefer to carry out construction and repair work on their own.

Advantages

The glue is quite popular on the market due to its wide range of uses.

  1. Low cost, available in almost any hardware and construction stores.
  2. High strength crystallized seam.
  3. After drying, the seam is elastic, which allows the repaired part to be used under mechanical stress.
  4. You can glue even the most delicate objects, due to its transparency.
  5. The glue does not contain toluene.
  6. Surfaces of different materials can be bonded together.
  7. In a liquid, undried state, Moment is easily removed from the surface. You can simply roll up the composition.

Positive aspects and features of the composition

The Henkel company produces several high-quality adhesives that can be used under different conditions. This is how Moment Crystal and Super Moment are distinguished, which are often chosen for household use. Gel Moment can withstand the influence of alkalis and acids; it can be frozen.

If you use glue at low temperatures, the hardening of the layer will slow down, this must be taken into account when working. After drying, the seam becomes a protective barrier against moisture and other environmental factors.

Frozen glue should be warmed at room temperature before use. Do not use heating devices due to the flammability of the composition. The glued item can be used within 24 hours, which allows for quick repairs. Complete drying takes up to 72 hours.

The following advantages of glue are also highlighted:

  • Reasonable cost;
  • Does not include toxic substances;
  • Setting takes little time, a maximum of a minute;
  • Low consumption.

After drying, the seam becomes a protective barrier against moisture and other environmental factors.

Release form and price

The cost depends on the place of sale (store) and ranges from 96 to 120 rubles for a minimum volume of 30 ml. May vary depending on currency fluctuations. The same volume can be packaged in other packaging:

  • tuba;
  • blister;
  • show box

For different tasks, containers of different volumes are produced. It happens:

  • 0.125 l tubes show boxes;
  • full-fledged cans of 0.75 l;
  • canisters of 10 liters of substance.

The cost of the glue is higher than the standard modification, which is due to additional characteristics.

How to use correctly

Exact instructions for use are always written on the packaging.

For the strongest and most durable connection, all manufacturer’s recommendations should be followed.

  1. Remove dirt from the surfaces to be bonded. Lightly roughen the surface using fine-grit sandpaper. You can get rid of grease stains with a degreaser or solvent. For the last task, acetone and pure alcohol can be used. Such substances will also help clean surfaces from old layers of paint and varnish. Additionally, household chemicals help get rid of excess traces.
  2. Apply glue to the required surfaces. If the base is of the same material, then only one part needs to be coated with glue. Otherwise, Moment should be applied to both bases.
  3. If the surfaces have a smooth structure and contain pores, then after a few minutes it is recommended to reapply the glue.
  4. The parts must be pressed together. If the bases are flat, you can clamp them in a vice or roll them with a small roller if possible, so that every millimeter is involved in gluing.
  5. Initial adhesion is achieved after 20 minutes. It takes a day for the seam to harden as much as possible and the part to be fully usable.

Correction of the position of the surfaces is possible immediately after gluing. After a few minutes the position cannot be changed. You will have to separate the bases, clean off the old layer of glue again and repeat all the steps again.

Although the glue is characterized by resistance to moisture, the manufacturing company does not recommend performing work in high humidity.

Instructions for use

All recommendations for working with the adhesive composition are indicated on the packaging. To obtain a high-quality adhesive composition, the base should be prepared in advance - cleaned of dirt, treated with fine-grained sandpaper. In order to remove grease stains and oil films, both surfaces to be bonded must be degreased. To do this, it is best to wipe them with alcohol or acetone, and this helps remove paint residues. You can also wash the products with household detergents.

Further recommendations with the adhesive composition are as follows:

  • Apply glue to one surface if they are of a homogeneous type, and to both when gluing materials of dissimilar types.

  • If the base is porous, then repeat the application of the adhesive after a couple of minutes.
  • Press the product together from the center to the edges to prevent air from accumulating, and also fix it using any convenient methods.
  • Soak everything for 10 to 20 minutes.
  • Before full use, leave the product for 24 hours (to allow the adhesive seam to gain strength).

You can make adjustments to the position of the elements only immediately after they are applied to each other. It is allowed to separate objects with immediate re-gluing. After 6 minutes it will be impossible to do this, and you will need to clean the base from the adhesive and repeat all the manipulations. The manufacturer does not recommend gluing in rooms with high humidity. Despite the fact that the seam is resistant to moisture, and the moment of connection, the effect of liquid in one form or another should be excluded.

Please note that sometimes the adhesive composition gets on the skin of your hands, clothes and other objects. Dried glue can be removed using gasoline or acetone. It is better to dry clean the fabric or try washing it with powder, detergents and rubbing alcohol. You can remove glue from tools with gasoline and soak everything in it for a couple of hours.

Limitations and safety precautions

The glue contains toxic components - solvents, which makes the composition flammable. It should be used only in personal protective equipment and in a suitable room that is well ventilated artificially or ventilated.

Exposure to toxic fumes can lead to hallucinations, dizziness and other dangerous symptoms of poisoning - nausea, vomiting. Penetration of a substance into the body through ingestion can lead to irreparable consequences - death.

If glue gets on your hands or other parts of the body, you need to wash it with plenty of water and soap. Affected mucous membranes should also be washed immediately and consult a doctor.

Containers for storing and preparing food cannot be glued together using Moment. It is also prohibited to use Teflon, polypropylene, and polyethylene products for repair.

Although the glue is universal, there can be problems with plastic. If you need to glue plastic, you must first test the reaction of the glue on the material. Take a small area on a plastic surface or a piece of plastic, drop a little Crystal and wait about half an hour. If there is no visible negative reaction (yellowing, deformation) of the base, glue can be used on the surface of the plastic. Otherwise, you need to choose a different glue for plastic.

Application area

The instructions say that the best adhesion performance is achieved when using glue on materials such as PVC (hard, soft), porcelain and ceramics, polystyrene and plexiglass, ordinary glass. The glue is also used for gluing products made of leather (natural, artificial), fabric and cork, cardboard and paper, foam rubber and rubber. The gluing area will be no less high quality when used on wood or metal. It is thanks to this variety of purposes that glue is considered universal.

“Moment Crystal” can be used for various household, repair, and restoration work. Since it is moisture resistant, it is suitable for products in contact with water and other non-aggressive liquids. The product can be used at home, in production, in the service sector.
